Favorite Blaxploitation Soundtracks

It's been years since I heard it, but I recall the prospect being better then when actually listening to the record. ... but then again it was years ago. -
I thought the deal was the original LPs were placed in the covers before the covers had dried?

Didn't he tour in the mid-ninties with Guru?

In Minneapolis, today, September 17th is known as Sonny Rollins Day. The day was to coincide with a performance by Sonny Rollins at the Ted Mann Concert Hall at the Univeristy of Minnesota campus, but the show has been postponed until October 31st, because Sonny wasn't feeling a 100%. Hopefully Sonny feels better soon.

To me, you are comparing apples and oranges. I love Terry Allen and a whole wide variety of music you are discussing, but I can still enjoy "Modern Times."

Arriving today in the mail: Kenny Burrell God Bless The Child (CTI) Howard Tate Live (Shout Factory) The Original Five Blind Boys of Alabama-Oh Lord-Stand By Me/Marching Up To Zion (Specialty) The Five Blind Boys of Alabama-Power of the Lord-The Early Recordings 1948-1951 (P-Vine)

Let me get this right: Once the TRUE fan has heard Koerner and Dylan's other influences, then they shouldn't like "Modern Times"?

My God...you're right! I have been tricked! That'll teach me to trust my own ears and taste rather than Clem's judgment! Imagine if I hadn't been warned...I might have gone the rest of my life thinking I liked something I really didn't like!

I have seen his last three Ballpark tours and have enjoyed these shows much more then the time I saw him in 1993 with Santana. The set lists might not be as creative as they were in past years, but IMHO he is singing with more emotion and intensity then when i saw him 1993. In Rochester, a few weeks ago, he did some phrasing on "Nowhere" that, I thought, was just a pure blast.

Has anyone recently seen Bob on tour?

How about those Twins! At the moment, they are 2 games back in the Central Division with 1 and a half game lead on the Wild Card. My original dream for the season had the Twins with a winning record. In early June, it didn't look possible, but yesterday they won their 82nd game of the season.

Buck Showalter, are you listening???? It has become such a common occurance that when I saw Zito pitch for the A's, in Oakland, right before the trade deadline, I was shocked to see him through stay in a game with a pitch count in the 110's.

The other announcer was a substitute for the regular announcer. Blyleven is actually a very good, fun announcer. He is great at describing what is going through the minds of the pitcher during certain situations and when Gardenhire messes up he get's called on it. My favorite on air Blyleven incident occurred this season. Blyleven's sidekick, Bremer, is a very prude, so much so that he refused to call the Best Damn Sports Show by its title, instead referring to it as the Best Sports Show. During a Twins game this season, an opposing player was at 2nd and they thought he was relaying the signs to the their team. Bremer made the mistake of asking Blyleven if he was ever in that situation. Blyleven replied that he had, so he walked off the mound and started accusing the player on 2nd of being a cheat, which the opposing player denied. Blyleven said he got out of the inning and the next time the player on 2nd was up to bat he threw one in under the rips. Bremer tried to make an excuse that the ball must have slipped, but Blyleven said no, he was a liar, so he got revenge. Once again Bremer tried to make things look better by saying that it wouldn't do that because it would be unsportsmen like to do that, but Blyleven replied that he deserved it. The other thing he does that I think is funny is that he always makes fun of managers when they automatically pull pitchers when they come close to 100 pitches. He refers to it as lazy managing and proclaims that they have to do it because the pitcher might explode!

My home-town favorites are: Bill Carrothers, Phil Hey, Anthony Cox, and Bob Pope. The first three are pretty well known around town, but the last is very obscure. Bob started playing drums locally in the late 1940's. His influences were Swing and BeBop. In the day, Bob worked as a Hennepin County social worker, but at night he played in pick up bands for touring musicians. Just some of the name players he played with were: Sonny Stitt, Warne Marsh, Johnny Griffin, Chet Baker, etc. Sadly, Bob passed away a few years back from diabetic induced health problems.

Well, I could not control myself! I added it to the order. -

I broke down and ordered the Mulligan set. I have always wondered about the music, so it should great to finally hear it. I almost broke down and bought the Wilson because my LPs are becoming a little too worn down. I held off because they told me at the moment it is safe. -
Seems like the new set features many tracks from: The new set does not feature some of the album tracks, recorded between 1956-1960, that are on Roots of a Revolution. I will buy the new set, I just wish they could have made the set a complete 1956-1960 recordings set.

Happy birthday Sonny! I will be seeing him next Sonny.

Quite true. In the past, the search for sources almost became part of music. I would have thought in the present case that Dylan would have appropriately credited the source since they are so obvious and the fact that one of the songs is being used in an iPod commercial. Even with his lack of crediting the sources, I still enjoy the CD.

I also wondered about this. Have the publishing rights timed out or something?
-
I just heard about this. Very sad news. I was able to see Dewey twice and each time was wonderful. The last time I saw him perform was in a quartet with Bill Carrothers.

One of the Handmade titles I kick myself for missing.
