I am going to have to spin it a more few times, but at first listen I was also disappointed because I was expecting something similar to "Discovery." I haven't heard "Discovery" in quite sometime, but I recall it being pretty damn good. I wonder why they didn't start with it first.

I spoke to him after the show and he is a very nice cat. He seemed to really push Rollins to great places that night. -

how was the rollins' concert? It was great! This was the third time I have seen him perform. The first time was really good, but the second time was disappointing with a little too much solo space for percusionist Kimati Dinizulu. This time he had the usual group, but with Kobie Watkins on drums and Bobby Broom on guitar, which seemed to add a different kind of spark to Sonny. He only played 90 minutes, but it was a solid 90 minutes. His tune selection leaned pretty heavy towards the new CD Sonny, Please. -

Not too bad of a set list, how was it? St. Paul, Minnesota Xcel Energy Center October 29, 2006 The show was great. The new songs sounded great and some of the songs I had heard in September sounded different with Stu Kimball playing acoustic most of the night. Denny Freeman is always a blast to hear live. -

The Twins and the Brewers also have two 3-game series each year. I believe the league came up with this for the rivalry factor. It seems to be popular here. Personally, I do not like interleague play because it diminishes the importance of the World Series. The only thing that I enjoy about it is the chance to see players in your home ballpark that are primarily from a different league (I.E. Maddux, Glavine etc.). Though I thought Bert Blyleven had a great idea; during Interleague have the home team play by the visiting team's league rules. My biggest gripe has to do with the All Star game deciding the home field advantage in the World Series. The original point of the All Star game was to be an opportunity to raise money for the players fund and for the players to have a fun time, not to decide something as important as home field advantage. Because Bud Selig was embarrassed by the tie at the All Star game his team hosted, he decides a change is in order. I did not get the feeling things were well thought out before they put it into action.

The mom-and-pop record store I used to work for had the 15 track promo sampler for Orphans in the listening box. I played it a couple times during the visit. The sampler had a nice mix of music, with a nice version of "Young at Heart" with a Hawaiian pedal steel.

Happy Birthday Brownie!

This has been the only problem I have ever had with the post office. I don't know how many times I have sent stuff out and I have come home a day or two later to find it sitting on my back steps.

Happy Birthday!

I would assume because of past licensing deals that they might have a chance to include material from the Columbia, EMI, and Universal holdings.
-
I don't think they could make it work, but it would sure be nice to have all of his recordings in one place. In this spirit, I would love a Woody Shaw complete Muse recordings.

I do not know for sure, but for the last decade there have been many avant jazz groups by passing the metro to perform in Madison. I guess I just assumed there was an audience because the number of shows being put on.
-
Actually Madison, Wisconsin is quite the beehive of avant garde jazz activity. Last I had heard, they had at least one venue that quite often had acts come there to play. In fact, many acts were playing there, but not coming to Minneapolis/St. Paul.

I endorse Kahil El'Zabar's Ritual Trio- Big Cliff. One of my favorite recordings from the 1990's.

Cyrille is fun live. I once saw him lead a quartet at the drum center with Fred Hopkins, Douglas Ewart, and Donald Washington (a true unsung cat). My two favorite Cyrille recordings as a leader are: What About?, the solo LP he made for BYG. I was very surprised how great a solo drum LP could be. Metamusicians' Stomp It is from the late 1970's and features David S. Ware and Ted Daniels in the front. I would also suggest staying away from the DIW My Friend Louis. I don't know how many times I pulled this CD out of the used bin at work thinking it would finally click, then was disappointed that it didn't. ... and another for New Africa.
-
Good question. When I saw him perform with a jazz influenced hip hop group 12 years ago it didn't seem so. He played short licks the whole night and never took a solo. Though it could have been because of the group he was playing with.

I ordered it Friday and have the same fear. I hope they didn't put the defective booklet in these last minute orders. I bought mine a couple weeks ago. The booklet was missing some pages, but they're sending a replacement. Mine arrived Tuesday, with the correct pages in the booklet.

I was just about to endorse this title!

The set mentioned above with this CD: would match all of the material on the Mulligan/Baker Mosaic set.
