  1. Every reason to dream! There is a possibiltiy that Ryan would go for it, since Radke has been having problems with his arm all year. He was pulled after two innings last Saturday.
  2. Nice idea, but I don't know if the Twins would do it. They keep a pretty tight hold on all of their prospects. Terry Ryan (Twins GM) doesn't seems willing to give up prospects for a player that will only help in the short term. In recent years, at the trade deadline, he has passed on trades for many impact players that were available for this reason. Thank goodness they did because many of the deals demanded Liriano as one of the prospects.
  3. It was a busy day for Kenny because he had a session the same day in Englewood Cliffs with Jack McDuff. It would make sense though because Ray Barretto is on both sessions.
  4. Anyone else notice the part on this recording where the woman is screaming and Sam makes a chilling remark considering how he was killed?
  5. Seriously, go back and get it. It is one of my all-time favorite CDs.
  6. I second that. This is one my favorite Stitt Verve titles:
  7. I really enjoy his recordings, but in the last twenty years he has not been as creative and consistent as he was in the first ten years of his career. IMHO, post Blood & Chocolate/King of America, he has had four perfect recordings: Brutal Youth (which many people would debate, but I love), Painted from Memory, The Delivery Man, and The River in Reverse. To my ears, When I Was Cruel never really clicked. I think it worked for some fans because it was his first "rock" recording in quite sometime, so they were so happy that he was playing rock again that there expectations for the songs was very lower then my own. I would endorse The River in Reverse to anyone. It works as a Elvis CD and as a Toussaint CD. Elvis really does a great job reinterpreting some of the songs that were made famous by Lee Dorsey, which I never thought I would be able to say.
  8. I agree. I think a complete McLean Prestige box would be perfect.
  9. I actually went to a show that turned the opposite of your experience. When I saw the group at First Avenue his voice was out. The music was wonderful, but after every song he apologized for his voice going out and said he would come back and make up the concert. Still was a great evening.
  10. How close were you to the loud guy in the audience whose screaming almost drowns out the band? I always wondered if this guy was the reason Elvis has has stayed away from live recordings for so long.
  11. Did either of you folks go to both sets? I was at the first set.
  12. What did everyone think of the show?
  13. I am really looking forward to the Monday night shows. Anyone else on the board going to be there Monday night?
  14. So he was as talkative during your show? He talked about all sorts of stuff at the show last night: Coltrane, Benny Golson, Art Blakey, Freddie Hubbard, and shyness, to just name a few of them!
  15. Mark, you are spoiling me with this photographs of people I have just seen or I am about to see! I really liked Maurice Brown. When they started Arabia, I was a little nervous for him because of the history of Hubbard playing on the song, but he really shined. I though Jonathan Batise was young, but didn't realize how young. He was a very nice piece to the group. Last night he had a feature with the trio playing "On Green Dolphin Street."
  16. Taking turns!!! That was kind of my take, but I thought it should be billed as the Curtis Fuller-Louis Hayes Quintet. I had a real blast at the show. C.F. was off the stage for 2 or 3 numbers, but it was still a great time. They opened the 2nd set with Arabia. Through out the show Fuller was very talkative, sharing stories about many of the greats he played with. What was everyone's take on Maurice Brown?
  17. Curtis Fuller Quintet at the Dakota tonight. It's weird that in this town this is billed as the Curtis Fuller Quintet, but in others it was billed as Louis Hayes Quintet.
  18. Yes, it is gone. Maybe some should start a Bill Evans Complete Riverside Box Thread!
  19. I wouldn't either, I was talking about Carell's role. I just really dig his performance in this movie.
  20. Exactly! Will Ferrell is not as subtle.
  21. IMHO, the best movie of 2005. ..and this is coming from someone that has seen all the Academy Award nominated movies and easily another 30 films released in 2005. I thought Steve Carell was wonderful and the casting was perfect. I would have never imagined that Catherine Keener would turn out so perfect for the role she played. I like the fact that they didn't feel they had to have the actual loss of his virginity turned into a big joke or classless act. As you said slide_advantage_redoux, he found someone he was interested in, fell in love, and then had sex when he was ready. Though I have to say Carell made the movie, with anyone else in the role the movie wouldn't work. Can you imagine Will Ferrell pulling off the role?
  22. I don't know why, but I assumed it was a common law marriage.
  23. I will give another to the Conn that featured both volumes of this. I never fell for the The Jazz Modes recordings as much as the two Blue Note ten inches.
