  1. I have seen Arkestra under the direction of Marshall Allen twice. The first time was at a biker bar in Minneapolis on the evening of the 1996 presidential election. Great music, but the bikers were not too thrilled with the music! The second time was a few years later at the Walker Art Center, which was a much better venue. The Arkestra, when I have seen them, has a very eclectic songbook. They play everything from Sun Ra standards, the Disney Songbook, and staples of the Fletcher Henderson big band. If memory serves me correct, there might be a few numbers that will wake up the audience, but the whole night won't drive people away from the concert.

I can relate. The big band material is great, but I more then not reach for Fletcher Henderson instead. When I want to hear B.G. I usually reach for the Small Group recordings or the Christian sides.

  8. I went earlier today and was very disappointed. Disclaimer: I have to admit, I was a hardcore Uncanny X-Men and Marvel fan in the 1980's.
  9. Can anyone confirm the studio chatter is on this set?
  10. SS1, Here's my second round point total: 46 points, for a total so far of 98 points.
  11. The Complete Johnny Hodges Recordings 1951-1955 LP #2
  12. Much love to the Pistons. If they win the Championship, it just makes Kevin McKale look that much dumber for firing Flip.
  13. The Complete Johnny Hodges Recordings 1951-1955 LP #1
  14. I second this one and would like to recommend Manhattan Symphonie.
  15. He kind of leaves that impression! I met him (along with Jeff Ament & Mike McCready) before a show at First Avenue in 1992. A very quiet guy, who seemed embarrassed by all the groupies infront of the club looking for him! The funny thing is that none of them recognized him because he had his hair up in his baseball hat, so they probably assumed he was with the crew.

  17. Sorry to tell you, but I believe they are opening for Petty. I passed on this one because I have seen them live four times already, but not since the Ten tour. I hope they come back without Petty because I would like to see them again and the cost of the tickets will be cut in half.
  18. I really enjoy the new CD, but then I think all of their CDs have been great (exception being that damn Live compilation). The first three tracks on the CD establish a more guitar oriented sound then I think has been present since Vitalogy. I was listening to the CD on a road trip with a friend and I asked if he also thought that McCready had been listen to his old metal records when the third song came on because it seems to start with an AC/DC riff!
  19. He has also worked on the Branford Marsalis Buckshot LeFonque CDs and with D'Angelo.
  20. I heard some of it on the radio. It sounds really good, with interesting arrangements and a real live sound. I plan on buying it soon.
  21. Hmm, I was going to go for almost the same order, plus the Bechet and one Ellington. I hope they have more than one of each. I think they have enough because I just received a confirmation email.
  22. This is crazy! Thank you for keeping up the good work.
  23. I thought I was the only one that noticed this. What drives me crazy is how much LeBron travels.
  24. I bought some titles, even though I am broke. The NY Contemporary Five, the 2 Marsh-Mitchell titles, and Solal Contrastes. Does anyone think they are going to run out before they can fill all of the orders?
  25. Much love for the "Memphis Sessions." Tons of great outtakes.
