I lean toward this 2 CD set: Elvis Presley The Top Ten Hits It was my first Elvis set. It is a nice set because the first CD has the 1950's material and the second disc has all the Top Ten post 50's material, with one of my favorite E songs: Bossa Nova Baby!

What about the 2 CD 60's Soundtrack set?

Great book! I read it last Fall and had the same reaction. Have either of you folks read the LOA set Reporting Vietnam? Just finished Our Way or the Highway: Inside the Minnehaha Free State by Mary Losure. Now, I am starting The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century by Thomas L. Friedman

Sad, but true! All this drama with K-Mart made me think about how everyone thought the Net's were doomed when he was traded. -
I have always wondered about this one. I have only seen it one time, when a customer brought into the store to rob it in my face! I don't think it was ever reissued on CD. Now that Columbia/RCA have merged, maybe Mosaic can reissue it as a Mosaic Select.

Did you flunk out of Cecil Taylor's jazz history class?
HolyStitt replied to Hot Ptah's topic in Miscellaneous Music
It's funny you mention this. I have had tests were there are a few questions like this, but not in my music class this semester. As you, I was shocked how many people answered with the wrong answer. In my geology class, there was a question on what started the Continental Drift. The three wrong answers were each of the names of the Three Stooges! It was funny, while people were taking the test occasionally you would hear people laugh when they go to the question. -

Thank you so much for sharing your memories of the class! I had never heard about how kind Dolphy was. If any more memories come to mind, please feel free to share them. -
Didn't figure any CDs would be in the mail today, but some arrived! The new self titled Pearl Jam, with a live concert from 1992. The Kinks Greatest Hits (Rhino) ICP Orchestra Performs Nichols/Monk Warne Marsh Quater Ne Plus Ultra

Hell, the whole thing is sleazy! I noticed the day that I went to the link. I tried to see the contract a couple of times and everytime the numbers increased.

I was wondering if that was a ploy for him to get more hits on the site.

The Lloyd arrived today. I have played it once, it sounds pretty good, though I didn't have a chance to listen closely because I had an important call come once I started the CD.

Could you share some of these stories? -
My mother heard Finlandia by Jean Sibelius and asked me to find her a CD of the music. I do not know anything about Classical music, so I am clueless on which one to pick up for her for Mother's Day. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Good & Bad News: aka, Where is my account!?

No, but in true Internet fashion, my penis size has increased dramatically, and my erections are now firmer and longer-lasting than ever. Thanks, Organissimo! -
Is there a tracklist for this one? I bought this one from Tower in February. It is really nice to have all of these sessions on one CD and I am looking forward to the next volumes, but I wish they would have put all of his sessions on here. They excluded the sessions that he led in the Forties because they were already on volumes by Duke Ellington and Dizzy Gillespie.

Thanks for the heads up. I have been waiting for this one.

Jim, don't worry about it, things happen. I just hope things are OK for you since going to the dentist. -
This has been a part of the show that has bothered me. Why haven't they tied up the loose aspects of Chris and Paulie letting the Russian escape in the park?

Years ago, while in high school, I took a Jazz History class. During the semester, it was just the teacher and I, nobody else signed up for the class. His curriculum focused primarily on video's and the teacher sitting at the piano to show how certain things involved from the standpoint of the keyboard. After the first month, watching the video's started to get old (even in the 1980's, Wynton Marsalis was the go to guy on these things), but the experience of having the advisor sit down and explain the evolution of piano was priceless. At the moment, I attend a history of Rock n' Roll class at my college. Like Jim, before I started the class I had spent many years reading books on the material and I also worked at a record store for 10 years. Like Allen's experience, it constantly feels like I should steer the teacher in the right direction. The professor told the class that ELP recorded 21st Century Schizoid Man (this may be true, but why tell the class this when it is famous for being a King Crimson song) and that Stax Studios and Fame Studios were the same place (to show this she played a Sam and Dave song and Wilson Pickett's In the Midnight Hour, both recorded at the Stax Studios). The one positive aspect of the teacher has been sitting done and talking about music. One day, the professor told me that there were certain musicians that she didn't understand why people had interest in. The example's she made were Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, John Coltrane, and Electric Miles Davis, with the professor's primary interest being vocalists, the blues, gospel, jazz vocalists, classical, and big bands. This professor is the only person teaching a jazz history course at the school I attend, so I will pass on the Jazz History class because I do not need more of this frustaration. -
Thank you for finding this for me! I ordered one through the link. Thanks for that link. Bought a copy of Optimista which I couldn't find elsewhere. Be aware that you purchased the 1 CD version of what is a 2 CD set in the incarnation that I have. 8 fewer tracks. Still a great deal. Oops... Well, on a positive note, I will have the chance to hear her music.

Please read the first post of this thread. Daniel A wrote about his Vogue recordings. http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...opic=17964&st=0 The Jo Jaguar total output consists of one 12-inch album plus one EP. Never heard those. They have never been reissued. Somebody who heard them told me not to bother. There are easy listening pîano sessions. Guess Solal would be mightily embarassed if they were reissued now. Thanks Brownie. I thought something must be different about the material for the music to not be included on the Complete Vogue series. I am sure enjoying the first CD in the series.
