  1. Man they have added nothing new for a long time. It looks like they are closing shop.
  2. Kind of amazing: Sit back, close your eyes, relax, and picture yourself in the beautiful surroundings of Newport, Rhode Island during the summer of 1964. Here is the entire day's worth of music from July 4th of that year. FREEDOM NOW LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OHMYGOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :excited:
  3. The Kid Ory stuff is so, so good. Also Moms, the Sophie Tucker is fun, but maybe not something I'd listen to for pleasure. I bought it more because my historical interest was piqued by the parts of Allan's Devilin Tune series about the intersection of Broadway and "hot" music.
  4. FUCK FUCK FUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU You Canadians are so lucky I HATE YOU YO GET ALL THE GOOD STUFF WHEN HAS GLOBE UNITY COME ANYWHERE NEAR WASHINGTON DC
  5. I've been getting the Hungaroton new Bartok series conducted by Zoltan Kocsis when I can find them.
  6. I was at the Velvet Lounge Thursday night, but had no idea. I had heard he was in the hospital when I was at the New Apartment Lounge Tuesday. My condolences to all who knew him or were touched by his music.
  7. I suggest Down to the Wire and The Marmalade King on Hat. Not recent stuff, but good examples of his work. After all, he is an old dog. As for this box, it sounds like the format is much the same as the Clean Feed box with Joe Morris. Four duets, each about an hour long. Completely improvised. The difference is in the relationships. Morris didn't have much history, if any, of playing with Braxton whereas Hemingway did. The Joe Morris was a pleasant surprise to me. I thought they work quite well.
  8. I was going to say, I was pretty sure that some of that was familiar. But I'm anxious to hear the other stuff.
  9. I couldn't find the previous thread. Has anyone pre-ordered the Cecil Taylor/Tony Oxley double LP from Ben Young? Have you ever received it?
  10. Not the sort of Commodore set I had in mind...
  11. Huh? You mean, for like DJs to drop phat beatz to?
  12. For those in the DC area, on November 11 Strathmore Music Center will have Bang On a Can doing an all-Reich program including the US premiere of 2X5.
  13. Man, you get the most active threads going. I don't know how you do it.
  14. To be fair, Peter Evans and Joe Irabagon are doing very serious things on their own, under their own names.
  15. \ Don't they mean "Greatest Bumps"? ('Cause he did coke) Heh.
  16. I'm a little bit country. Does that count?
  17. When I saw that I thought I had clicked on the "bad cover" thread.
  18. Shoot, no it'll be the previous Tuesday. I tried finding it on Google Street View. Is it on the corner?
  19. Is that a regular gig? I'll be in Chicago in late June.
  20. It sounds like Mosaic sees more sales potential in box sets of the "avant garde" rather than almost anything else now. Along with the Threadgill set, this is going to be a great year!
  21. What about those of us who ONLY listen to bad music? I have the entire Escape Club and Will To Power disocgraphies, for example.
  22. I believe it is now a Sheraton or some such.
  23. Three gigs in the US in June: 6/11 Rochester NY Jazz Festival 6/13 Baltimore MD (Mount Vernon Methodist Church) 6/14 NYC (Dizzy's)
