  1. I'm not sure this one is still in print... Any other recommendations??? thanks again.
  2. I'm not that familiar with the music which would be on this set... If I was going to purchase one CD to get a taste of what it's like, what would you recommend?? thanks
  3. The interesting thing is that it appears that most of the sets which had a significant amount of unreleased material were the early sets... I'm suspecting that this is just coincidental. The Teagarden Roulette set had an album's worth of unreleased material from the Round Table sessions. I think it's still available too--some very nice stuff there! gregmo
  4. That is very cool... Of the top of my head that seems like that most unreleased stuff I've seen before......, I mean I don't remember any Mosaic set having 2CDs of unreleased stuff before... Am I wrong about that one? It appears that either this set will include a lot of un-issued material, or there will be more recordings included than the ones that Hans lists (perhaps including the Impulse! sessions?). I am hoping for the former. The set will include Jamal's Argo/Chess sessions only, no Impulse! dates. As mentioned on this Mosaic page, there'll be 23 unissued sides.
  5. Play, piano, play is REALLY hard to get... I haven't found a good online source... Do you have one? Shawn, if you are interested in all of her previous albums, dont forget these two: I recommend both.
  6. I knew that.. but to my knowledge its just working its way stateside now... Tranemonk, please let me correct you. Musical Moments was released on August 2009 and I strongly recommend.
  7. what's that??? I don't get it.... TMI, perhaps?
  8. For those of you who remember her.. a young extremely talented pianist from Japan who emerged in the mid 1990's. Her last main record was "Fragile," which was put out in 1999 and VERY unlike her previous releases... She's back with a new CD.. and its slamming... :excited: :excited: I have almost of her stuff and have loved her. I caught her at the 1997 Montreal Jazz Festival in which she gave an amazing trio performance.. She apparently disappeared from the scene for 7 years and just came out with this one... (Got it as a Japanese import from tower.com).... I'm a happy camper.....!
  9. She is/was one of the original voices... ever...
  10. I think I got my order in under the radar.. Got a shipping notice a few days ago.... :blush2: :blush2: :blush2:
  11. I'm still waiting on my request for a Cal Mosaic!!! (that and that damn Betty Carter Select they won't issue.... <_< )
  12. Out next week... what do you think? http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=8195076 I don't have any of the original titles but it's a nice price.... For those of you who do have the originals... Is it worth it??? I'm not a big Lockjaw fan... but......
  13. Two things... 1) I have seen Holland probably over 1 dozen times since he created this quintet (e.g, Potter, Eubanks, etc.) and its variations... I am finding a "sameness" to his music (both live and in the studio). I will say I thought the big band was MUCH better and interesting... 2) Regarding the premium edition... VERY Disappointing! I was hoping for some extra music (like another CD).. You basically get some artistic postcards and a signed t-shirt... Really not worth it...
  14. Now Disc 3... the String Band Session... Wow I guess we're all on the same wave length... Just broke this open also.. and I am enjoying it... loved that first album from the box! not quite as convinced of the rest of the box, but that one is really fun... Just playing that first one... fun indeed! Will report elsewhere how I'll like the rest...
  15. What 16CD set?
  16. thanks Ron... looks good!

    Marc Cary

completely agree.. I picked it up and listened to it the other day.... :tup :tup
  18. For those of you as fanatical as I am... I called HQ and was able to place a pre-order for the Jamal set... :blush2: :blush2: :blush2:  9CDs.. expected to be out in July... I am NOW officially done buying CD for 2010!!!!!! and I mean it this time....
  19. Just got it and listened to it last night. Much better than the performance... Don't ask me why...
  20. I'm having an Art Farmer morning.. Disc V of the Golson-Farmer set...
  21. Can you confirm that there's no new material in this one? How's the packaging, liner notes, etc? thanks
  22. I caught them last night in Boston. It was the quintet but included several tunes from this CD. As huge as fan as I am of Dave... this performance was a bit disappointing. Nate Smith (the drummer) just seemed to bang anyway... As my wife said.. "No sense of nuance...." I have seen Dave and his band probably over a dozen times.. and this was below standard... As for the CD... I've ordered the limited edition from his website and I haven't received or listened to it. I did like the tune "Ebb and Flow" last night...
  23. I thought the main point of remastering WAS to improve the sound???? I wouldn't be surprised if they just repackaged the original CDs. That might cause a few copyright problems.
  24. Disc 3 - Joe Henderson the Milestone Years.... Which I got from Newbury for the whopping price of $8.... :excited: :excited:
