  1. 2nd spin on McCoy Select Discs 1 & 2... Enjoying it much more this time around....
  2. Wilson... Definitely... The Hodges didn't do anything for me...
  3. Max Roach Disc 4... I have to say I'm finding this shockingly excellent... !!! I did not expect this... (both quality and sound!!)
  4. Max Roach Plus Four Sessions... Disc 1... I hestitated a long time on this one... but so far so
  5. Great picture!! and great set!! (thanks Ron....
  6. Disc 6... I have to say I'm enjoying this set far more than I expected!!! Hey Ron and Mag Goldberg - Have you picked this set up, yet???
  7. I was over all the AAJ BB and noticed three or four different posts about people selling their Mosaics... and started thinking that there are some people who simply buy the Mosaics for a) resale profitability and/or b) novelty (it's nice to have something that is OOP, that other people don't have) and/or c) don't know or care about the Mosaics and are simply addicted to the whole "collectable" thing... I know (at least I think I know.... ) that none of us over here operate with those motives... I know for me EVERY mosaic I buy... is based on a love for and/or a curiousity about a particular artist... Sometimes it's a dud, sometimes a home run but it ALWAYS and ONLY about the music and the musicians (and wanting to support the company...) I don't begrudge any one who has multiple motivations for buying them when at least the main one is a love of the music... I do find it disheartening when the dominant/sole reason is resale profitability... I have not nor will I ever sell my Mosaics... (now what my daughter does with them when I croak is another story... ) That's my story! and i'm sticking to it...
  8. I just finished Ellington Disc 2... and it was fab... I really enjoyed it....
  9. Finished Discs 6 and 7 this morning of the Eldridge... Overall an excellent surprise... Now onto Duke... Disc 1....
  10. Okay I'm on Disc V.... and overall still
  11. Roy Eldridge Disc 1 and 2... I was very hesitant about this one... and I only took the plunge 'cause I had an $88 credit at Mosaic having returned the Sidney Bechet & Weston Selects.... So far..... We'll see how I feel by Disc 6....
  12. Just finished Disc 3 of the Hutcherson Set... Overall Excellent....!!!
  13. My juvenile ears are thoroughly enjoying the 2nd CD of the Hutcherson Select.. God it so good not to have to listen to "adult music." *IMHO This is heading to the one of the best selects I've seen..."
  14. Don't u realize that we are all immature adolescents with way too much disposable income who don't like paying our bills, mortgage, cars, kids,etc.. and all we want to do is preorder the juvenile sounds of McCoy Tyner...
  15. don't go there.....
  16. Bobby Hutcherson Select Disc 1.. off to a GREAT start with Rosewood - track 1...
  17. I know... they caught a lot of flack (no pun intended) for not doing that and not offering a hard copy... Overall I wouldn't recommend buying the set... just a couple of dates... I was seriously considering this till I saw it was MP3 only. For $70 I would expect lossless (FLAC) files.
  18. Okay Js... you talked me down off the ledge.... A very valid post (and wise)... I'm not sure I agree with everything you said but you're viewpoint is legit... Personally I don't like it... I know at some point Mosaic will disappear.... and I can't STAND the thought of Pat Metheny and Boney James in the same sentence... ( I just can't do it...)... This on top George Wein selling the jazz festival biz.... not a good week...
  19. Well I have to say... I finally finished the set today.. and my first impression with the remaining 2 discs and overall is that it's a bit a of disappointment... I mean i've got way too many McCoy records but this set just didn't work that well.... I may change my mind but at first listen I was kinda bummed... the little bit of a trio session was the best part.... Just finished listening to Disc 1 of McCoy's Select... So far.. nice... Very different than his work today but quite consistent with the type of material he was composing/playing during that era....
  20. Okay I'm listening to this single now and seriously digging it... My question is this... How representative (or not) is this record of his stuff (particularly I'm thinking about the Mosaic set The Complete Columbia Recordings of Woody Herman(45-47) #223)?.... I know these are 20 years apart... Of course I know about Woody Herman... but I've stayed away from buying his stuff since I don't know it well... I got Woody's Winners thinking it would give me an idea of his stuff... and I really like this record!!!
  21. just got mine today also.... !!
  22. Mp3 of Charles Tolliver Select.... forgot how good it was.... Funny thing about this set... I started with the intention of listening to a couple of tunes on Disc 3... now I kinda can't leave without listening to the whole set....
  23. Purchased Dave Douglas' new (DOWNLOADABLE ONLY!) boxed set - Live at the Jazz Standard.. 12 sets, 6 nights... Great stuff! I wish a hard copy was available!
