  1. I must be missing something here. A decade = 10 years, but January 1, 2000 - December 31, 2010 = 11 years; just count them: 1st year - 2000 2nd - 2001 3rd - 2002 4th - 2003 5th - 2004 6th - 2005 7th - 2006 8th - 2007 9th - 2008 10th - 2009 11th - 2010 I think the answer is that the 201st decade started on January 1, 2001. The year 2000 is the last year of the 200th decade, which ended on December 31, 2000. There was no year 0, the Christian era started with the year 1. So the first decade was 1-10 AD, the second 11-20 AD, the third 21-30 AD, etc.
  2. She's Loes Hamel, a Dutch cabaret performer. I don't know if she's still alive.
  3. Even Michel Ruppli's Clef/Verve discography doesn't give any personnel listings. The recordings were made in LA on November 13-14-15 and December 27, 1961 and April 9-10, 1962. The sessions were released on 2 LPs, Ella Swings Brightly with Nelson (Verve V-4054 mono/V6-4054 stereo) and Ella Swings Gently with Nelson (Verve V-4055 mono/V6-4055 stereo).
  4. Are you referring to the JSP 4CD set (924) : DE, Vol. 1 1926-29 - Mrs Clinkscales To The Cotton Club (2005 release) ? - There is no mention on the box or CD's as to who was responsible for the remastering. JSP usually advertise on their merchandise especially if Davies or Kendall were involved. There is also a second 4CD set that is just a compilation of later material. If John R.T. Davies or Ted Kendall aren't explicitly mentioned on JSP boxes, they weren't involved in any way.
  5. Details here (release date: March 1, 2011)
  6. Sad news. Sorry to hear this.
  7. I decided to post a short explanation as to why I locked the thread, without going into the various individual posts above. I intended to post this in the Elvis thread, but events (like this thread) overtook that intention. I watched the direction the Elvis thread was taking with growing concern, in particular when I read the Elvis/Wagner/concentration camp analogy that was posted in another thread and the reactions it provoked in the Elvis thread. In my view that analogy was way over the line and uncalled-for, and to prevent the thread from going down that line any further I locked it. However, having thought about it and realizing that some of the reactions in the Elvis thread were civil, balanced and thoughtful, I re-opened it. As this is another clash between the way I am moderating this board and the opposition it seems to generate, I decided to take time off for personal reasons. So it's goodbye for now.
  8. I have merged three McBrowne threads to keep all info and opinions in one place.
  9. I have merged the three existing Staccato threads to keep all info and opinions in one place and deleted a few posts about the location of the threads that became superfluous with the merger You can find the result here. I locked this thread.
  10. It is, I've also seen it happen on other music boards. Strange phenomenon.
  11. Maybe for you. I find it fascinating. To each their own
  12. [sigh] This thread has become very tedious, with the same arguments repeated over and over again... Time to move on, I think. By the way, thanks for keeping it civil
  13. It's not just OJC/Riverside, McBrowne also made an album under his own name for Pacific Jazz. I had his Riverside and Pacific Jazz albums back in my LP days. Both are included on this Fresh Sound set. They're nice dates, but not exactly earth-shaking.
  14. No commenting on the price, please - see forum rule 8.
  15. Yep, here. It wasn't there when I did a search yesterday.
  16. The period was so small, I didn't even notice it
  17. Perhaps you could post a few details, such as artists and TOCJ numbers.
  18. The set is no longer listed on Hip-O's home page, at least I can't find it on their site - or on any other internet store site, for that matter. (edit) I just heard that the set has been delayed until January 2011.
  19. Yeah, so? What's your point? Why don't we just cut to the chase: Piss off. Didn't realize you were the king of this thread. I guess 2 championships in 92 years gives you a sort of sense of entitlement, eh? OK, that's enough. If this continues the thread will be closed (like the Baseball Steroid thread).
  20. I'm with Larry here. An adolescent might find this kind of humour funny. Nothing to do with PC.
  21. How about "hypocrisy"? If spell-check were predictive instead of just underlining the problem word, maybe I wouldn't be so embarrassed. :blush2: It might be comforting to know that this is by far the best bulletin board I've seen as far as spelling and grammar are concerned. Some of the other boards are embarrassingly bad in that respect
  22. How about "hypocrisy"?
  23. Many thanks. They've probably taken the info from the CD issue, which, by the way, has five extra tracks. CD tracklisting: A Lot of Livin' to Do You Can Have Him Tonight Make Someone Happy I Believe in You As Long as He Needs Me Getting to Know You My Ship The Sweetest Sounds Joey, Joey, Joey Loads of Love I'll Know Hello, Young Lovers If Ever I Would Leave You I'm All Smiles Come Back to Me Don't Rain on My Parade
