  1. I didn't like the Japanese UCCI reissues that I've heard, they sounded harsh to me, with boosted highs. The American digipaks that were mastered by Erick Labson in the mid- and late 1990s aren't my favourites either, but to me they sound better than those Japanese ones and they're cheap. Other board members' mileages vary Until something better comes along, I generally prefer the 1987 (32XD prefix) or 1991 (MVCI prefix) Japanese Impulse! CDs; as far as I know they share the same masterings. I don't know which Pharoah Sanders and Alice Coltrane albums, if any, were released in those series, though.
  2. When was it released (should be on the back, at the bottom) and is Ron McMaster listed as remastering engineer?
  3. What is the catalogue number of your "Complete" TOCJ and in what way does the XRCD complement it?
  4. Yes, I think it was my attempt to order this set last night that prompted them to update the listing. I'm getting really frustrated with all the back-ordered items in their catalog these days. Well, they have to be very careful with their investments these days, and it's very expensive to keep everything in stock.
  5. Two ATR Threadgill albums, When Was That? and Pass the Bucket, are available on both LP and CD. I recently got the CDs from Jazz Loft.
  6. I am looking for this Mosaic 5CD-set in Exc or better condition: The Complete CBS Recordings of Eddie Condon and His All Stars - Mosaic MD5-152 PayPal is my only payment option. Please PM me if you're selling this set.
  7. This is one of the sets that's currently on back order at Mosaic; according to their site it won't be available again until late 2010.
  8. I got my box from Amazon U.K. a few days ago and it's in fine shape; no damage at all and the discs are all glue-free. I immediately put the discs in those Japanese "cloth" mini-LP inner sleeves.
  9. Amazon Gift Ecard might be a good way. That sounds very promising. Would you explain, please? MG Amazon gift ecards are only redeemable for items on Amazon. Amazon gift certificates
  10. I don't know if you ship abroad, but overseas customers might still prefer paying through PayPal. It's by far the safest international payment method, and sending cash across the pond is a hazardous undertaking. Besides, in the euro zone changing euros for dollars often isn't cheap. Checks and International Money Orders are no longer used in many euro countries, and international bank transfers to destinations outside the euro zone are very expensive. Minor point: I'd call Herb Alpert and Frank Sinatra's Reprise recordings pop, not jazz.
  11. Amazon has several Japanese CDs listed. I know, but not this one. Still looking.
  12. I am looking for this Japanese CD from 1991 in Exc or better condition: John Coltrane - Live at the Village Vanguard Again! - MCA/Impulse! MVCI 23018 PayPal is my only payment option. Please PM me if you're selling your copy or know where I can get one. Thanks
  13. My box is finally on its way to me, with free shipping because Amazon U.K. made a mistake with my order. Although I ordered it from Amazon U.K., it shipped from Germany. Amazon assured me I'm getting the revamped box - wait and see...
  14. The Jazz Tribune series that Brownie is talking about consists of 5 2-disc sets that release all of Bechet on RCA I have it too. Brownie is talking about volume 5 in this series. There are actually only a handful of tracks by Bechet on it. The Panassie sessions with Ladnier, Newton and Mezzrow comprise the rest. Actually, there are 3 2CD-sets, not 5: Jazz Tribune No.10 - Vols.1/2, 1932-1941 Jazz Tribune No.18 - Vols.3/4, 1941 Jazz Tribune No.46 - Vol.5, 1941-1943 (plus Tommy Ladnier/Mezz Mezzrow/Frankie Newton, 1938-1939)
  15. You can always change the names to protect the incident and tell it anyway. Protecting the incident is exactly what Allen is doing by not telling what happened
  16. A great set indeed. Coleman Hawkins in his prime.
  17. Lee Konitz was born on October 13, 1927, so he's now 82. Who were his sidemen on this date?
  18. Sad news.
  19. You're welcome, and good luck - the MoJ CDs are long OOP and most are hard to find and sometimes very expensive.
  20. That's not what I said, I wasn't talking about the bottom end. What I meant is that to my ears the higher frequencies have suffered badly from the use of "noise removal".
