  1. Just past eleven am and it looks fine (IE6).
  2. Hoffman is referring to the regular OJCs, not the K2s, which he doesn't like at all because of the bumped-up highs.
  3. These CDs were released in one of the first "TOCJ" series (TOCJ-5XXX), way back in the early 1990s if I remember correctly. They're extremely hard to find.
  4. Fantasy sold to Concord thread.
  5. All three volumes did come out as 24-bit remastered reissues in Europe. I got a copy of Vol.2 from Amazon UK earlier this year.

    Funny Rat

Remember: I still have one of your CDs. You're getting busy, Tony B-)
  7. When I was still bidding on LP auctions in the 1970s and 1980s, for some reason Jeff Barr's prices didn't reach the astronomical heights of Leon Leavitt's prices.
  8. Jim (B3-er) said in this thread he'd increase the PM size.
  9. Maybe he now lives in TX...
  10. As far as I know Jeff Barr moved from the East Coast (NY?) to Florida and then to southern California.
  11. Cross Section Saxes is listed here (scroll down).
  12. Great story, Garth. There was someone like Leon Leavitt in Belgium, with a collection of 100,000+ original jazz and blues LPs. A friend of mine visited him in the 1970s and was totally shattered afterwards...
  13. For that price I'd grab it, despite it being spotty.
  14. I hardly play this set, but it's great. Highly recommended.
  15. Of course, you're right, I should have remembered that (I had the T-set back in my vinyl days). Sorry.
  16. As far as I know the Teagarden LP-set is included in the Mosaic (the usual disclaimers apply, though ). Here's the producer's note of the Mosaic set: "This Mosaic release brings together all the masters from the OKeh and Brunswick label plus any other masters from the Columbia family of labels that have sessions led by Bix Beiderbecke, Frank Trumbauer and Jack Teagarden. However, we’ve decided to stray from the vision a bit and include those Columbia masters of Bix and Tram where they are in the role of sideman as well. These include the Arkansas Travelers (A), Broadway Bell Hops (I), Willard Robison/Chicago Loopers (L), Bee Palmer (Y) and Bing Crosby (NN) (OO) sessions. We have decided not to include the Joe Venuti Blue Four session (with Tram) of October 18, 1929 (“Runnin’ Ragged” and “Apple Blossoms”), which will be available as part of a Venuti-Lang package on Mosaic. Brunswick masters that were recorded prior to November 17, 1931 are not included since they are currently under license with Universal / Polygram."
  17. isn't that the worst? Not half as bad as the bumped-up and aggressive highs of some non-TOCJ Blue Notes in my opinion. To each his own... its like having a bad head cold... Well, those aggressive, shrill-sounding non-TOCJ Blue Notes are giving me bleeding ears and severe headaches - I don't know what's worse... Like I said, to each his own.

  19. His records were always impeccable (I did manage to win a few before he decided I no longer met his minimum bids) and his grading was accurate.
  20. Very sad news. My thoughts are with Sonny.
  21. He removed me from his mailing list in the early 1990s because I didn't meet his minimum bids.
  22. My thoughts exactly.
  23. Some people have got better things to do than proofread threads and posts... Whatever, but I sometimes wonder if people actually read very carefully. When those titles were referred to as "obscure" and I went on to say they hadn't been in print since the 80's, I would have thought somebody might have said something sooner. Well, I can only speak for myself, of course, but I don't have time to check out threads and posts every five minutes, and I didn't read your observations until just before I posted the info about the reissues. Sheesh...
