  1. I was told last week by a legit source that Canon (Canon?) is going to be introducing a technology within the next 8 months that will make both obsolete. I have not done any research on this, but... does this sound realistic?
  2. I see a little Ashley Simpson jig in her step on that Living Proof clip. Intentional? .:.Cary (pronounced Carry, Shawn's my wife's name(seriously))
  3. I like a lot of Cat Power too, chew. For some reason, my brother is on the fence. I think it has more to do with her success-to-talent ratio than anything though. I think she's fine. The Greatest is a nice album.
  4. You deserve a commission from the loft... I ended up buying the two Dickerson albums that I didn't have, on top of the video.
  5. y'all are into mashups? i think the most popular mashup of the year is girl talk 'nightripper'. combining top 40 music from the past 25 years, not so top 40 music from the past 25 years (neutral milk hotel even!), with mostly crunk mc's of the past 5 years. instant party. while you're on this kick, i'd suggest you check it out. he moves fast and samples come and go before you can get them.
  6. Not sure if I would recommend this one as a starter -- it's pretty short and only manages to reach LP lengthy through the inclusion of incomplete takes. Guy not to mention the drumming.
  7. ha! that's awesome. did you know that he did an mtv cribs back when?! hilarious. the mystique was gone. memphis murder men, but i digress.
  8. What innovations are you referring to? What is the 'something' that they pushed further? up. specifically.
  9. aquariusrecords.org by the way...
  10. What innovations are you referring to? What is the 'something' that they pushed further?
  11. Mark Linkous and Danger Mouse are going to record a full-length collab after working together on the latest 'Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of the Mountain'.
  12. I could never remember my combination. The lockers were easy to pop.
  13. I like the MBV sound much, MUCH more than I do "Taking Drugs To Make Music To Take Drugs To". Much of Spacemen 3 is boring to me, as is Spiritualized, though I remember the "Ladies And Gentlemen..." having a couple of nice tracks on it. I've always though Mascis was fantastic, even with the less interesting music he has recorded in recent years. Every once in a while, it happens. He's a motherfucker of a guitar player in my world. Glad to see the jaded are giving him some credit. The answer to the question is: no, loveless is not the most overrated album of all time. in fact, i doubt most people here or there have ever even heard of it.
  14. Well, do you need a new pair of jeans? If so, I'm sure it'll be worth it. Especially when you get that first compliment. "Nice dungarees, teach!"
  15. Chuck, I sent you a PM.
  16. Its not like this music isn't available in a plethora of other formats.
  17. Hm. That is a fundamental divide that I had never really put my finger on. Kind of like: "There are two types of people in the world..." It works in this example, actually. I think you might have nailed something that I had never boiled down. There are two types of trapset players.
  18. p.s. I have a nice backyard. I'll take pictures this spring. Y'all can decide where you'd like to set up.
  19. Tomorrow night: David Grisman and some friends (Old School Freight Train) are going to be doing some picking here. Sunday: Califone in Arlington, or Alexandria... I don't know. Can't wait! Tuesday: Califone in Chapel Hill... Carrboro, but whatever. Benevetto Russo was here last weekend. When is Organissimo going to bring it to the beach?!!!
  20. Huh. I bought a used copy of 'Larks' last month, having never heard much of King Crimson ever. I really like the vocal tracks moreso than the instrumentals. I thought I'd like the instrumentals more! I do like the dynamic range of the recording though. Seems like a nice recording. I do remember hearing a crushing instrumental in a soundtrack once. Can't remember if it was a Guy Ritchie movie or what. Was Asia a cheesy band like Europe? That is the impression I get. Can't say I've ever heard them though.

    RVGs

Same here...I still have one original LP BLP1528 but never could buy VOL.1 and 2 on CD even in Japan. Do you have any idea of what drives OOP albums into the RVG edition, by the way..? I found a copy of Vol. 2 on CD in a used record store a couple of years ago for $6.99. I love this music! So much more raw and powerful than a lot of other Jimmy Smith I have on the shelf. Especially Thornell Shwartz's tone. I'd love to hear Vol. 1.
  22. imagine what the 'we are the world' collab would look like today. we know what it would sound like, but imagine all the kooks from people magazine in one room with headphones all singing in a different key. jimminy christmas. gee-min-ee. cripes. ho boy. hopefully madonna and kiedis would exchange a four or two, you know, for nostalgia.
  23. is it as good as it smells?
