  1. I'm not talking about the topic, but the content. Your momma? Sorry, I just have a difficult time understanding personal attacks via a web message board. I don't even know why I'm getting involved here. A part of me wants to be sympathetic toward people that get so wrapped up in it, but I can't.
  2. So that's what this was all about. This thread should never have been started in the first place. I guess we all have different opinions of a message board's value. I'm pretty sure the majority of the members at this message board would agree that this thread is way outside of what organissimo is about.
  3. wow.
  4. up. Has anyone seen this? Nice presentation, I must say. Are there any other examples of jazz music being advertised through television spots? I honestly never thought I'd see something like this. Someone must think that jazz is a viable market afterall, regardless of format. Very timely considering the recent backlash on CD-R and downloads.
  5. Are you sure that was Goldings? I know Smoker appeared on a live Soul Note recording under drummer Phil Haynes' leadership (I think the title is Live Insurgency) with Jeff Palmer on organ. I don't know if Smoker and Goldings ever appeared on a recording together. That's it. So, not only was it not a Paul Smoker album, Larry Golidngs wasn't the b-3 player. Wow. Should have looked around a little bit. I'm going to have to buy another copy of that somehow.
  6. Last year's Matt Wilson Arts & Crafts recording was also fantastic. I really like Goldings. Does anybody have the Soul Note album he did with Paul Smoker? I wish I could find that damn disc. Trumpet, b-3, drum kit. Hard as hell.
  7. Of course it had to be Wynton, but I was sort of pleased to see advertising dollars go toward a television spot for jazz music. Are there other examples of this? I've certainly never seen a tv spot pushing jazz music.
  8. I like this disc. I do remember the bass being mixed way back though. Great price, that's for sure.
  9. I don't know... tough call. They serve as two very different bands for him, judging from the couple of shows that I've seen. He is still pushing himself, which is a good thing. Seeing him in his late teenage years, he was constantly frustrated that his hands wouldn't move the way he wanted, or so it seemed. Every once in a while, watching him, I still get that feeling. Great slide player, for sure.
  10. Jim, I thought that Live at the Meat House was always a CD-R release. I'm guessing now that it wasn't?
  11. Thanks for posting that Dmitry. Everytime I see that re-run on tv, they edit out the Arkestra performance, but they're all standing there at the closing credits! I can imagine that threw a lot of people for a loop that night.
  12. I am glad it is live, too. Steve Lake / Manfred Eicher could have sucked the energy out of this one in one way or another. Can't wait to hear it!
  13. This is a double disc? When was this recorded? Do you have more details?
  14. Thanks for bringing this back up! Just ordered a copy. I'll let you know what I think. I'm looking forward to hearing it.
  15. Website Seems the "merch" link isn't working though...
  16. Go find a copy of GRAND UNIFICATION. Milford's notes are fascinating.
  17. I've never formally fasted, but I have done a couple of 30 and 45 day detox diets with my wife. Very, erm, cleansing.
  18. I'd say Monk was the first person that sprung to mind, then Bird. Even the tunes he didn't write, I still associate with him. Scofield is a great thought! Andrew Hill too. Wayne Shorter's compositions also stand out. I think I'd also be able to blindly identify a tune as being written by Jason Moran.
  19. That's true. The two versions that I have don't even look familiar after the first two phrases. I'll continue to work on it.
  20. No dude, those are just North Carolinians! I live here, so I can say that. Seriously, back in the pines, you never know what you're going to find. There are some strange people in North Carolina, and American Idol seems to attract them. Seems to attract them from all states actually. I loved that quip from Simon, something about installing a sound-proof shower curtain. That 17 year old has to be the best singer that has walked in front of those three. They were in awe that talent like that could actually walk through the door.
  21. Can someone lead me in the right direction here? I have a copy from LIBRARY OF MUSICIANS' JAZZ, said to be transcribed from Dial 1002. I also have a copy from THE REAL BOOK FIFTH EDITION, said to be transcribed from The Comprehensive Charlie Parker. Maybe its me, but neither of them seem to be what I'm hearing. Maybe I need to spend more time with the music... the first 5 bars make sense, but after that I'm falling apart. The two versions I am looking at differ hear and there during the first five bars, but beginning with the sixth bar, this is where the two transcriptions begin to differ a lot. Any help? Thanks!
  22. Stories is good. Grand Unification is GREAT.
  23. Cool find!
  24. "Everybody" I know is also an exception then. I think the bigwigs refer to it as "viral" marketing. I don't think the jazz recording business is in the worst shape ever because of the advent of the CD-R. It is a convenient and short-sighted scapegoat though.
