  1. I hope that coming here helps you realize that you are not alone. How's the weather? Would it help to sit out back and breathe in some fresh air?
  2. Am I the only person that listens to this music that wishes Mary Halvorson would play with more subtlety? I have reached a saturation point. I feel like the records I have will do at this point.
  3. That wasn't exactly a takedown. I read a lot of respect there. That's not to say that he isn't critical of a handful of songs! It reads to me like his expectations were not met. No big deal. What does your last post mean? Those are your two favorite Kinks records? I have a soft spot for EVERYBODY'S IN SHOW BUSINESS.
  4. They made an excuse for not giving PA the Philly, but I don't think it made any sense. Some of these sandwiches sound terrible. Agreed ALA, a pastry is not a sandwich, and I am of the mind that a burger is a burger.
  5. Seems a vinyl+DVD package would be popular. Poster?
  6. Some odd choices. RI is either a roast beef sandwich (there are roast beef sandwich joints everywhere) or a lobster roll. Virginia is the Cuban? I'd go with a Club, a Sailor, or Stuffy's VIRGINIAN! They got NC right, though Charlotte? And slaw on the side? It goes on the sandwich folks.
  7. Devonne is making a record with Nicholas Payton right now. He is one of the most productive musicians I know.
  8. I was listening to this today. I wish there were more recordings featuring Albert Stinson.
  9. Do you pack clothes into the messenger bag? Do you have any plans for the storage unit? I'd love to empty every drawer and closet in this house. Stuff.
  10. I don't have the original LP, but Green's guitar is really the star of the show in this mix, and wow is it gorgeous. Yusef Lateef is well-captured here as well, but the guitar is downright amazing.
  11. The Man with the Golden Arm turned me on to some of that Polish jazz a decade ago now. Where did you go my friend? Great music.
  12. I'm reading the original liners by Nat Hentoff. He sure didn't care for organ players. This is a great session. Al Harewood is strangely low in the mix, though I can really hear his sticking on the ride cymbal as if there is an odd treble boost. The washing of the cymbal is hardly audible in comparison. Too bad because everyone else is well-represented here and it seems to me he was playing his ass off.
  13. But can you make him drink? Can you beat a dead horse to water and make him drink? Remember, you got there first, so perhaps the answer is not as apparent for some as it might otherwise be, especially now that John Zorn Month is no longer with us but Phil Schapp is. The constant here? Water. Some people see problems, others see solutions. If you plan on making yours a water-based solution, you might want to reconsider making the dead horse drink it. Force is never the answer, but it might be a part of the solution. I'm not a chemist, so really, I don't know. Do you? Does anybody? And yet, there is life. There IS life! So say yes to water! And ride a dead horse - AND the dead horse he rode in on. Give them both some water, and let them come rolling home, this one and that one, each and both, some, but not all. Stay thirsty, my friends. You can't teach a dead horse new tricks.
  14. I actually don't own a copy of Kind Of Blue. I keep giving mine to people.
  15. Charles Mingus is a must. Ornette Coleman's early quartet music comes to mind as well. You might also enjoy some guitarists like Marc Ribot, Mary Halvorson, Marc Ducret. Talibam!, Grex could be of interest. Tortoise, Isotope 217, Chicago Underground Duo/Trio, Exploding Star Orchestra, Rob Mazurej Skull Sessions, Joshua Abrahms Natural Information... Lots to choose from and I'm trying to think off the top of my head. Dive in!
  16. Gabor Szabo did a lot of The Beatles songs: Dear Prudence In My Life I've Just Seen A Face You Won't See Me Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds (live version from More Sorcery previously mentioned)
