Whole batch of Mosaic Selects and Singles running low
RiRiIII replied to miles65's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Regarding the delay, I am pretty sure since few past orders and after they outsourced the logistics, that the actual shipping date vary significantly from the shipping notification we receive. In my case it happened at least twice to be 10 days later! -
RIP. I love his Atlantic LP:
-
I correct myself. The set I posted above is actually the 3rd volume covering 1958-60! Alex
-
United Archives, that had issued the first volume of live Miles Davis some years ago, makes available the 2nd volume (2 discs) for 12 Euro.

Some photos of texts from McLean's Consequence, that are common to all these releases: Alex.- Since you have this new Japanese CD, are you able to compare it to the CD from Mosaic box or even the regular US Blue Note CD issue from 2005? Kevin I would be more than happy to do this, but I have neither of them to compare my jp cd to.

Great recommendations. Thanks for the recommendation. All my 25+ years listening to classical music I never managed to locate a recording that can transmit the feelings I get from the Cortot/Thibaud/Casals EMI recording. And I never tried this one you mentioned. "Now's the time" (BTW, John Lewis performs this one now in my room from a 1959 Atlantic recording). Alex.- PS: Opus Kura the japanese label with expertise in 78s transfers just released a 2-cd set with Cortot-Thibaud-Casals recordings, incl. the Archduke. http://www.opuskura.com/releases_e.htm

One of my first ever CD purchases was the "Mingus at Monterey" CD (Prestige/Carrere 98.480, AAD) issued by Prestige/Carrere in France; totally legitimate I assume. This Mosaic release looks awesome!

(tongue-in cheek) Glad mail is still being delivered in Greece. In all seriousness all that we hear and read over here about Greece is gloom and doom and disaster. I wonder if it's really as bad as being reported? Wrong thread, I know. We are doing fine in terms of mail delivery, at least. Please do not believe such exaggerations. Of course recession is big as is the unemployement. But the Country operates normally. All the more since this is the summer period that contributes mainly to Greece's growth. "Summertime and the livin' is easy" this applies perfectly. Thanks for asking, Alex PS: by the way I should not have been concerned for any delay, since the packing slip mentioned a shipping date of June 11, 2012 while Mosaic's "Fred" confirmed me twice a shipping date of June 1st!!

Fabulous news! Thanks!

Is there another source for those Wilen set? Are they noteworthy? I suppose this should be the Paris concerts: THE UNISSUED 1956/57 PARIS BROADCASTS Reference: DIS-126049 ALL TRACKS PREVIOUSLY UNISSUED This release presents rare ever before heard Miles Davis performances taken from Paris broadcasts made in 1956 and 1957. On the majority of these recordings, Davis is backed by a quartet that consisted of Frenchmen Barney Wilen, René Urtreger and Pierre Michelot, plus American expatriate Kenny Clarke, while the long version of “Lady Be Good” pairs Miles with the great Lester Young. Two additional unissued broadcasts by the Miles Davis Quintet with Sonny Rollins, taped at the Café Bohemia in 1957, have been added as a bonus. [1-9] MILES DAVIS, trumpet BARNEY WILEN, tenor sax (out on 8-9) RENÉ URTREGER, piano PIERRE MICHELOT, bass KENNY CLARKE, drums. [1-6] Broadcast from the Olympia, Paris, France, November 30, 1957. [7-9] ORTF TV broadcast, ORTF Studios, Paris, France, December 7, 1957. [10] Same personnel as above except LESTER YOUNG (ts) replaces WILENand CHRISTIAN GARROS (d) replaces CLARKE. Saw it on Berkshire Record Outlet, but actually able to get it cheaper through Amazon UK, provided I ordered it correctly (have never ordered from there before). The 3 pound shipping charge seems low for a 13 CD set coming to the USA. 30 EUR (incl. VAT) at amazon fr. I have the previous 10 CD set that goes up tp 1955... http://www.amazon.fr/Live-Recordings-1948-1957-Miles-Davis/dp/B005HPQ7KK/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1326019420&sr=1-1

Great! Both of your above recommendations are available! All my thanks! I ll wait and see if any more recommendations will come and will order tomorrow.

In various discussions here, it was stressed that live recs of the Stan Kenton Big Band can be really good. Could you please provide me some recommendations on CD? Many thanks! I checked this one that looks interesting:

Which are the other five? I have the Ella/Hollywood and Getz 7" Hip-O Boxes. Got the Ella, the Peterson (both locally, half price in a closing store... otherwise they'd have been ridiculously priced here!), then more recently - all thanks to this thread - the Getz, the Nat Cole and the Dinah Washington. But please don't ask me about sound issues etc. - I'm no audiophile, and with the exception of horrendous RVGs such as "Capuchin Swing", or old dead Columbia CDs, I can rarely tell if something sounds really bad. Thanks! I will try to purchase what I do not have since they are not available for ever (it seems the Peterson is not anymore widely available). The sound in the Wes box is exceptionally good!
