  1. What a contribution over such a long period of time, and he surely went out on top too. His playing on MBefore from last year is incredibly deep. For me at least there's not much in jazz as exciting as those recordings with Don Cherry, specifically from Montmartre. All-time burning. RIP
  2. In stock now: https://www.dustygroove.com/item/141881/Karl-Berger-Kirk-Knuffke:Heart-Is-A-Melody?sf=knuffke&incl_oos=1&incl_cs=1&kwfilter=knuffke&sort_order=artist
  3. Took me a good decade or more to find one at a price I was willing to pay, but finally did a couple years ago.
  4. Too lazy to confirm myself but I think the only Moers LPs that made it to CD are the two John Carters, Odean Pope - Almost Like Me, Sunny Murray Trio, MRE - No Wave, RSJ - Street Priest, and the Phalanx album. By the time they transitioned new releases to CD they weren't putting much out that was very interesting but there is a great Gunter Christmann album on there from 1995 that is the first true example of his mature conception (a la Explico).
  5. Terrible news. He was the glue that held together so much great music. This album is tremendous. https://harrisonbankhead.bandcamp.com/album/velvet-blue RIP
  6. I was really hoping to be able to carve out some time & money to attend this year to see Joelle Leandre, but alas don't think I will be able.
  7. A loss that is ultimately expected, but still stings. A master and a true original. RIP and thank you for all that you left here on Earth. https://www.nola.com/entertainment_life/music/new-orleans-jazz-saxophonist-educator-kidd-jordan-has-died/article_4dcd1598-d554-11ed-b2ad-e74ecacb1f41.html
  8. I had noticed a bit back that the excellent Jazz Doctors LP was due for reissue by Cadillac. What I didn't realize was that the CD edition contains an entire unreleased follow-up album that was recorded in 1984 with Thurman Barker and Wilbur Morris replacing Denis Charles and Rafael Garrett. Very welcome news! https://cadillac77.bandcamp.com/album/intensive-care-prescriptions-filled-the-billy-bang-quartet-sessions-1983-1984
  9. Great album but you could make a pretty penny with it these days.
  10. Great news!
  11. Dusty Groove keeps new & recent releases pretty well-stocked https://www.dustygroove.com/label/131295
  12. One that kinda flies under the radar, and is now pretty hard to come by cheaply on any format, is Groovin' High. Leftovers from the Space Book and Blues Book sessions, but the alt take of "The Second" is so killer. One of my favorite Ervin discs that you should definitely check out if you haven't. Byard's solo on that cut is especially mind-melting.
  13. It looks like DG will be getting copies in eventually: https://www.dustygroove.com/item/141881/Karl-Berger-Kirk-Knuffke:Heart-Is-A-Melody?incl_cs=1&no_incl_in=1&sort_order=release_date
  14. Another vote for the 1954 set, as prime as can be.
  15. It seems to have gone away now, and the same price is applying only to the 2xCD, it doesn't look like the box is listed by Amazon anymore. FWIW I received a fully-sealed copy of the box, original hype stickers and all.
  16. Don't think we have a dedicated Hal Russell thread but this is as good as any. Weasel recently restored this film on Hal that has some very valuable footage both of him speaking on his life and work and of the NRG ensemble in action. Great, great stuff. Part 1: Part 2: Part 3:
  17. from the website: maybe he should consider extending that priority to not wasting the world's resources printing Out To Lunch on CD
  18. This is now at $27. I ordered one Saturday and it arrived yesterday: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BKR6V1ZV?ref_=cm_sw_r_mwn_dp_Z4N0PKT8D1XQK720A9ZD&fbclid=IwAR31Rw5OTDVmWXEahnaL3cY3W_PqpR1so675prWj8zF9mnUsgvHIKKKP5zY

  22. I'd be interested in that arrangement as well, but no worries if not. I will take these, with the caveat that I need to check on Jazz Sahara when I get home. Abdul-Malik ,Ahmed Jazz Sahara $8 Johnny Griffin Abrams ,Muhal Richard/Favors Sightsong $8 Adams ,Pepper 10 to 4 at the 5 Spot $6 Ammons ,Gene/Stitt Boss Tenors in Orbit $6 digipak
  23. They were all over the place shortly after the Concord sale. In addition to Oldies and Newbury, where I bought dozens, they were also sold as cutouts at bookstores in my area, and a local jazz-centric record shop marked them down in favor of the new RVG and Keepnews editions.
  24. I agree. I think for the combination of quality and scarcity of the material this is one of the very best Mosaic sets period.
  25. He's on fire here, but yes, it's very hard to find now:
