"Indiana" was released last year on LAJI CD #11 - "Howard Rumsey/Lighthouse All Stars - Live In The Solo Spotlight" The above date is incorrect according to Ken Poston (LAJI) - it should be Dec 14 (Jack has already been notified by Ken) Ken's commment on potential release is "probably not although it's always a possibility"

The Coleman Hawkins title was an alternate of "Cattin' At Keynote" (Feb 17, 1944) - was on Meritt LP 25 & is not on the Hawkins 4CD set The omitted Hawkins track was in fact the master take which had been issued on 78. The box (and the subsequent CD set) only contained the alternate, and Dan Morgenstern in his otherwise excellent notes denies the existence of a second take as listed in discographies. Thanks for the info. I've enjoyed the 4-CD Complete Coleman Hawkins Keynote box for years, and didn't know about this missing take. This is when having a 78 rig helps - I just went on Ebay and found the Keynote 78 of "Cattin' at Keynote" for a good Buy It Now price. The seller also had a couple of Don Byas 78s I had been looking for. My 78 of "Cattin' at Keynote" finally arrived today - definitely a different take from the "Complete" Hawkins box. On the 78 master, Bean begins his solo with the same lick as on the CD take, but he finishes the phrase differently - and more creatively. The whole solo is more thoughtful and interesting than on the CD take, although it builds up a pretty good head of steam by the third chorus. It makes the more familiar CD take sound kind of forced. Just my opinion, of course, but I prefer the 78 take. I guess Hawkins and Harry Lim did, too, since that's the one they issued. Jeff has a copy of the original 78 - see above

I've just sat down for the last couple of hours & compared the LP set booklet with a download of the track details from the Fresh Sound site Here's the deal (final I hope) There are 334 titles in the LP box & 243 in the CD set (minus the 4 Horace Hendersons make 239) I then worked backwards & counted the alternates in the LP set = 95 & presto 334 minus 95 gives 239 If you have the complete "Essential" Series (Vol. 1-10 or 14CDs with a total of 230 titles - remember, 10 of these were alternates from the Benny Carter disc not in the LP set) plus the new Fresh Sound box you will only be missing out on 7 alternates 1. The Horace Henderson session is listed in the LP box booklet but was not released in the set I've attached the session (from the Lord Discography) - looks like it was only released on Jamboree 78's, so first time on CD as far as I can tell

The Benny Bailey CDr was from Import CDs (it wasn't Amazon on demand) I even emailed them (Import CDs & Candid) about the anomaly but never received a reply (from either)

The majority of the WhyNot/Candid releases are worth getting IMHO Import CDs have them @ low to mid $7 range Just a warning re Candid CDs - some I have purchased were CDr's (Benny Bailey), though none of the Whynots

Solar records (part of the Andorran stable) have recently released the "complete" April 15, 1961 Concertgebouw concert 7 titles have been previously issued on LP (Italian Musica Jazz) & 9 on CD (Magnetic) This release adds 2 previously unreleased titles I presume this will consist of broadcast recordings - poorer quality than if it was a Dutch Jazz Archive release - they most likely would have the original tapes A real pity - I hope this doesn't stymie the Dutch Jazz Archive from issuing this properly

you can still get them all from HMV Japan (the whole series so far from 2013) - just before Christmas I did a big order with them (ones I missed out from CD Japan) They actually have some on special (850 Yen - multi buy) - shipping is a bit more expensive with HMV but I've been landing them each for $14Aus When CD Japan list their discs as OOP, they are usually still available elsewhere

After sourcing the "Spiegel Edition", I Initially contacted Warners UK to see if they had any English versions of the booklet but alas no luck there so ended up getting one from Mosaic You really do need to get those extant Ellington Mosaics before they sell out

Has the Teddy Charles "On Campus" been recently released? - can't find it on CD Japan or HMV Japan

Harman Kardon Sound Sticks & Jellyfish have been running these for close on 10 years & the addition of a Nuforce DAC converter a couple of years ago has made it even sweeter

there are 4 titles (alts) from the Black Lion / 1201 CDs not in the Mosaic set while the latter contains one title not in the 3 individual discs

I can see in the near future the Andorrans releasing a double Dolphy CD (stealing/adding this release of alternates to the 2004 Lonehill Jazz CD "Complete Memorial Album Sessions") & calling it what? "The Absolute Complete……. Sessions"

that's bizarre - why would someone just steal the discs (unless you kept them separate from the box/booklet)
