saw him with David Murray's group (he replaced John Hicks in the "Black Saint Quartet") back in 2008 - played live here in Brisbane I was impressed & actually did a bit of net investigating & reading after the concert - put him on my to get list (but still haven't got around to sourcing his CDs - only have him on David Murray discs)

a big second for the Fontana New Jazz Series with those stunning Marte Rolling covers re the Lacy "Scratching" set - picked up my copy in 1999 from Forced Exposure for $40 - I remember it being not easy to source (for Australia) even then

That was my assumption and why I posted the link. I emailed Eastwind yesterday & received a quick response - they will be getting in copies of this & the new Eric Dolphy CD (Muses) ASAP - were released on Nov 25 in Japan Maximum Rare Records has copies listed (Japanese online dealer - been dealing with them for the past 2 years & service is good plus shipping rates are low) http://www.ebay.com/itm/BUD-POWELL-LIVE-BIRDLAND-1957-JAPAN-ISSUE-CD-999-Ltd-Ed-G00-/271332405871?pt=Music_CDs&hash=item3f2cabf26f I bought this from this seller on 11/29, still have not received shipping notice (or product) and have just sent my second request for an update (or refund if the item will not be available)...what is your experience with this seller's communication? My copies shipped yesterday (Powell & Dolphy) from Maximum Rare Records - there can sometimes be a delay between purchasing & shipping with this mob but they have always come through for me (including replying to emails) Thanks. Do you communicate through eBay, or is there another avenue? both (ebay & direct email - see below) "eBay Member: ftfym65" <ftfym6_evn2758qjo@members.ebay.com>

I'm waiting for this too from the same vendor - have been keeping an eye on this daily for the past week or so & status keeps changing - you may suddenly find it'll be shipped in the next day or so (has happened to me before with Import CDs) can't imagine this will do a "hemphill"

the next batch of Japanese Bethlehems were released yesterday (Dec 11) & already a number are OOP on the CD Japan site (Shavers/Sullivan, Sachs, Jonah Jones, Socolow, Mann - Flamingo) hopefully they should all be available via Dusty Groove (listed but not yet available)

many thanks for the link fitting accompaniment to the music

Like others here, I picked up my copy without a slipcase (early 2006) Just looked at the hand written receipt by Hazel - it was only £13

"Listening to the Savory Collection With Loren Schoenberg
romualdo replied to ghost of miles's topic in Jazz Radio & Podcasts
Any updates on the Savory collection? I've just read that the collection contains recordings of the first Randall's Island Jazz Festival (May 29, 1938) - 25 Swing Bands played including Ellington & Basie Hope Mosaic (or similar) can get involved & hopefully release this material before the end of the decade -
There were 334 titles in the LP box & 230 titles released in the CD series That leaves 104 & of these there are only 6 or 7 alts (take into account my mathematical error) So there are 97 or 98 non digitalised titles (apart from some released on other labels - Washington, Willie Smith) & these are all in the FS box (just checked) - definitely worth getting if you don't have the LP set
-
Just had a look at the track details at the Fresh Sound Site Unfortunately (or fortunately for some) there are no alternate takes (that's over 90 titles missing) I'm wondering if the take of Coleman Hawkins "Cattin' At Keynote" on this set will the the 78 master take that was omitted from the 21LP box?
-
RIP Stan have fond memories of seeing him live here in Brisbane sometime during the 90's (got a tape of the concert somewhere) I think it was a tour to promote his Blue Note CD "Portraits Plus" his work with Evan Parker on his psi label is worth a listen (good late period material)

Sam Rivers Contrasts & Abdullah Ibrahim African Piano
romualdo replied to David Ayers's topic in Re-issues
Sam has so many single word "C" albums, it confuses me Concept, Contours, Crosscurrent, Crystals, Culmination, Contrasts Any more?? -
got a reply from Chris Albertyn who runs the Electric Jive blog (what a great site) regarding the "Ian Bruce Huntley" tapes (56hrs) think I'lll probably purchase the book too There is already quite a bit of the audio up on the blog site - but blogger as whole seems to be having issues with its search function. However if you google "IBH Jazz Archive" you should find quite a few of the links referenced. I am hoping that the full audio (the full 'discography' is printed in the book) will become accessible and public by the end of January 2014 - depends upon how much time I can steal from my day job. There will be a full set of pages dedicated to the IBH jazz archive, (visual, written and audio) and over time Ian and I have agreed that we would like to get more and more of his photos up on the site - the book contains 120 images that Ian selected - but there are lots of other important photos, including Dizzy Gillespie live in Lesotho.

Are there any box bargains currently available?
romualdo replied to GA Russell's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
You're welcome, Mike! I forget his name at the moment, but as I recall the violinist for Caravan later joined Penguin Cafe. Geoffrey Richardson -
