  1. Four titles were originally released on FMP LP 0540 "The Early Quintet" & all six titles have subsequently been released on the German Immus CD "Avantgarde" The session was recorded in Dec 66 Just picked up a CD of the earlier CBS (May 66, Frankfurt) recording "Voices" with the same musicians
  2. Another 30 Bethlehem releases from Japan due in mid December http://www.hmv.co.jp/en/search/music/adv_1/barcodecatnum_CDSOL-6/category_1/x_60/y_18/ They're continuing to mine the catalogue with some wonderful surprises (one high on my wish list DICK WETMORE - finally!!) Herbie Mann, Stu Williamson, Don Elliott, Australian All-Stars, Aaron Sachs, Anthony Ortega, Frances Faye, Marty Paich, Frank Rosolino, Porgy & Bess 2CD (Torme & Faye), Jazz At The Metropole Cafe The big one for me is the first CD issue of the Dick Wetmore 10" (containing Bob Zieff compositions)
  3. Not that impressive !! - always have a pang of disappointment when the latest reissue batch is listed This is the second Hatology release of Lorrach (last in 2002 plus a Hat Art version in 1995) i.e. 3CD releases - nice to see Ayler in print but what about previously unreleased (CD) material from other deserving artists eg Jimmy Lyons - "Riffs", "Push Pull", "What To Do About" - these are all great sessions that haven't seen the digital medium AFAIK Also hanging out for "gardens"
  4. Just ordered a copy - great price Also, what's up with Amazon's shipping rates (international) - have they been dropped? - only cost me $6 to ship to Australia (usually 14-15) Same with the 10DVD Ken Burns box which I just bought - on special for $41 (Amazon) & shipping was only $7 to Australia Thought I'd finally go for it (in the face of good & bad reviews), especially at that price - the full series was never shown here & our DVD release set was seriously truncated
  5. Many thanks grabbed one earlier today (hope it's not some Eastern European facsimile/boot)
  6. was released on Excelsior 78 159 & has been reissued on Rhino CD 75872 (Central Ave Sounds) no specific date in Lord discog - only 1945 There's also an AFRS Jubilee version from Jan 46 (same lineup as above) - it's on the Hep CD "Groovin High In LA 1946"
  7. according to the Lord Discography, 4 titles were released on a Tring International CD (GRF065) - not sure of the title is your LP on the Booman label?
  8. Looks interesting - don't have any Drake on CD only have the 1986 Fruit Tree box containing the 4 LPs - may be worth upgrading to CD
  9. One of my fave Australian groups "The Necks" are currently on a UK/Euro tour just played 3 sold out nights at Cafe Oto Radio Three organised a meeting between the Trio & Evan Parker (which was recorded & will be broadcast on Nov 21) - read the details in Richard Williams blog "The Bluemoment" - he was present http://thebluemoment.com/2013/11/07/the-necks-in-london/#comments can't wait to hear this I usually get to see them once a year when they do their Australian tour
  10. The Hawkins material appears to have originated from a Modern session(s) - Only two titles (of 10) were released on a Modern V/A LP "Jazz All Stars" M7027/MST827 The Lord Discography lists all 10 titles as being recorded in 1960 (very non specific) - may have been more than one session date? All titles were initially released on Crown (AFAIK)
  11. The Hamilton & Baker discs are from various previously released Pacific Jazz sessions (CD/Mosaic boxes) The Hawkins looks interesting though it has been previously released on Boplicity - would have been nice if they had released the whole session (2 LP's The Hawk Sings & The Hawk Swings) on a single CD (or double)
  12. It's good - shame that Vocalion or Ten To Ten (Clark Tracey's label) have not put this out on CD. Ownership rights issue, perhaps? The LP is recorded in a studio session at Lansdowne Studio but it covers the same Tracey charts as on the TV show (which was introduced by saxophonist/critic Benny Green). Slight digression here but while on the Harriott topic & unreleased material Hum Dono - was slated for release by Universal in 2005 (master tapes are probably still in existence?) [This is what has been posted on the Amancio D'Silva site, maintained by Stephano, for over two years: "Full re-release on CD by Universal music: expected Spring 2005"] Steph is also a guitarist. http://inconstantsol.blogspot.com.au/2008/02/joe-harriott-amancio-dsilva-quartet-hum.html
  13. Well the first two Jazz on Film sets were on the Moochin' About label, so it's pretty confusing. Battle of the PD's. I have the first "Jazz on Film" box on Moochin' About and really like it, so will stick with them. Same here - I have the first 2 "Moochin' About" boxes - very happy with them. Also they are releasing a Chet Baker Set in December (listed on Amazon UK but not on the Moochin' About site yet) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jazz-Film-Chet-Baker-ICON-Featuring/dp/B00FXWC1NO/ref=sr_1_4?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1383621048&sr=1-4&keywords=jazz+on+film
  14. Actually, I've just realised I have an original Australian pressing of this Columbia LP "We Love You Madly…" Don't think it's ever made it to CD
  15. Have just found this amazing footage of Joe Harriott soloing with the Stan Tracey Big Brass (1969) First live recording I've ever seen of Joe
  16. Which Rivers is in the set? I didn't manage to work that out... Streams
  17. RIP Frank perchance, yesterday I received the Basie live Roulette set - lots of listening & here's to you
  18. Just picked up a copy of the Basie live Roulette Mosaic (via ebay) Instead of a hand written number in the booklet we have the initials/letters WBGO -> does this refer to Newark jazz radio I presume this was a promo sent to the station - anyone come across this before Musn't have got any play as the discs were still sealed
  19. What's the chance of a Volume 2? - really hoping for that (there is plenty of material for a few volumes)
  20. Very Nice not listed on Dusty Groove yet (best place to get the Corbett vs Dempsey releases) Looks like it will supersede the 1999 Atavistic single CD release
  21. Welcome to the site The 7CD Mosaic set "Columbia Jazz Piano Moods Sessions" was an immediate thought http://web.archive.org/web/20070818030229/http://www.mosaicrecords.com/prodinfo.asp?number=199-MD-CD It's out of print but is currently available on ebay & Amazon - bit pricey at present but I have seen it go for significantly lower prices in the past http://www.ebay.com/itm/THE-COLUMBIA-JAZZ-PIANO-MOODS-SESSIONS-MOSAIC-7-CD-BOX-MD7-199-SEALED-CDs-OOP-/140974316815?pt=Music_CDs&hash=item20d2b95d0f
  22. This link has a history. They're British. I've watched the whole series (would download it as soon as it was aired in the US) but can't seem to recall this Yep, very groooovy & cheeeesy has a Scott Walker ambiance in parts
  23. go for the Odyssey set Ah yes, but is it available anywhere? buy it through Discogs / Vogel-Music-Sales (that's where I bought my copy recently) There are still copies available http://www.discogs.com/sell/list?release_id=2219594&ev=rb
