  1. So, is it copy-protected If not, you can all make copies for us, because it sounds like no one in the U.S. will ever get it Bertrand.
  2. Yes indeed, a very happy birthday to Daniel! Bertrand.
  3. Better yet, Miles could have helped Quincy Troupe write his autobiography. He would have just lifted quotes from previous Troupe biographies and attributed them to Troupe himself. Bertrand.
  4. Interestingly, though, I don't hear 'Impressions' at all in Larry Youngs' version of 'Pavanne'. What am I missing? Bertrand.
  5. Wasn't it determined that Stevie Wonder stole "I Just Called..." from some unknown aspiring songwriter? I know there are always claims like that, but I think this one actually was verified. Bertrand.
  6. All the discographies I've seen show Wayne (2 tunes), Cedar (2 tunes) and Curtis (1 tune) as the arrangers. No one mentions an arranger for the closing tune. Did Freddie arrange that one? Bertrand.
  7. I missed the first part of this, but caught then ending. It indeed sucked, plus I always hated that song. A couple of questions: 1. Who is that drummer? He sounds unworthy to play with Herbie. 2. Does Aguliera always masturbate the microphone like that? I was expecting it to squirt any minute. Bertrand.
  8. I saw one episode of this, but do not remember Rollins at all. Here's a marketing idea: put out a DVD for TV shows that were cancelled after just a few episodes, and include episodes that were made but never aired. I bet it would sell like hotcakes with the right ad campaign. Make 'em limited edition. Call 'em 'TV Connoisseurs' or something like that. Bertrand.
  9. Art's Break? Keystone 3? Tough?
  10. Welcome to the forum, shadowhillway! I have a sneaky feeling I know who you are. Bertrand.
  11. Oh, that TV thing looks like an option too. In fact, I prefer if he hogs the boob tube than the PC - the PC is much more useful to me! Bertrand.
  12. Forgot to specify - I meant to use on our PC, so I'm looking for a CD-ROM. Is that something I can just get at Target? Bertrand.
  13. While uploading from iTunes to my iPod, I got a message saying the file 'iPod-control\device\sysinfo was corrupt and could not be read. However, the upload seems to have run fine after I clicked on the 'X' to close the error message box. What is this file? Is it something major? I haven't run a disk scan yet, but if I did lose it, do I need to upload iTunes again, or is there a way around that?. I'd rather not upload iTunes again, as someone posted elsewhere that the new version has some major problems. Thanks in advance, Bertrand.
  14. My son used to play a Pac Man CD-Rom at his old school. I wanted to get him one for Christmas, but I have no clue where to look. I never buy these things. Does Amazon carry them, or other sites? Are there different ones out there, or is there one basic classic Pac Man? Thanks in advance, Bertrand.
  15. If you want to have all three of his Blue Note CDs, I suggest you hold off a bit... On the other hand, you know what they say about the bird in the hand... Bertrand.
  16. Maybe Mighty Quinn and Water could start putting out sessions not worthy of release on Blue Note, like the last Shorter and the last McLean sessions. Just a thought Bertrand.
  17. Up for the red trumpet guy who posted here a while ago! Bertrand.
  18. Man, I wish I could be there Bertrand.
  19. Coincidentally, Sandoval has just joined the organissimo forum. Bertrand.
  20. I still haven't tried to figure out the bass player on 'Sign Off'. Bertrand.
  21. This is indeed great news, but didn't we already know this a few months ago thanks to Frank Kimbrough? I remember him mentioning the session, and my jokingly asking if this would be on death row records, and Frank said that it was Blue Note. Good to see Tolliver back in the studio. For those of you in NYC, the big band opens at the Jazz Standard tomorrow through sunday. Wish I could be there As for Andrew's health, as I posted elsewhere, I did get confirmation of the bad news from a musician who's been playing with him off and on in the last few years. I'm hoping he can make a full recovery - optimism is the best policy in this case. Bertrand.
  22. A musician contacted me just now. She is trying to pin down the year of composition for certain pieces to be included in her forthcoming CD. Here's as far as I got; does anyone else have any further information? The best I can hope to do is go by first recording, unless someone here is privy to some inside information. Thanks in advance, Bertrand. 1. Sister Cheryl (Tony Williams) This seems to be from 1981, on Wynton Marsalis' first album (recorded July - August 1981). The Jazz at the Opera House version is February 1982. Does anyone know any earlier version? 2. Nardis (Miles Davis) It looks like the first recording is by Cannonball in July 1958. Miles never recorded this, and some think he didn't write it. It certainly is strange that when Ben Sidran asked him in an interview what the title meant, he couldn't give a coherent answer... 3. Senor Carlos (McCoy Tyner) From McCoy's album Looking Out (Columbia). According to www.loc.gov, this was released in 1982. What is the recording date? Are there previous recordings of this piece? 4. Luiza (Antonio Carlos Jobim) I have nothing on this one - don't even know where to find a Jobim discography.
  23. Like an idiot, I bought the 'iTunes-only' version of the Russell, without checking to see if I could hunt down the CD. Why am I an idiot? Because, as posted elsewhere, the iTunes version is defective: the breaks in the tracks are not at the proper place, e.g. the ending of track 1 is located at the beginning of track 2. Last time I buy a full album on iTunes - I'll just use it to buy alternates I don't have. As for the Roach, it can be obtained in Europe, but as discussed in another thread, it was remastered from vinyl, and a rather scratchy copy at that. Does this mean the master tapes are lost, or could they be in the hands of some private collector? Bertrand.
  24. My first reaction was 'what the fuck is Cecil Taylor going to do in Austin'! Good luck with the move. My father moved to Austin last year, so I may conceivably come to visit one day. I hope to catch up with all the local members, and catch a Quartet Out gig. Bertrand.
  25. A much, much better Dameron book is just 'round the corner - hang tight. Bertrand.
