  1. Presumed unrecorded.
  2. I am in, thanks! Please tell UCLA how much this is appreciated!
  3. There are so many private tapes out there. So glad Gene went this route for all jazz fans to enjoy! I would do this for Left Bank if it were up to me. A lot of those are sub-par audio quality, by design. The artists were told that the recordings were 'for the archives'. This site is an 'archive'. Someone's basement or a record label vault - not an archive. Stanford has a Monterey jazz archive. I love the principle of this, but you can only audition on-site, which I totally understand but am of course frustrated by. I plan to drop in if I ever do go back to California. Bertrand.
  4. Thanks. So one less reason to get the box instead of the downloads.
  5. Circle in the Square is by Joe Farrell.
  6. The heads are edited to be incomplete, that is how they are skirting copyright!
  7. Yes, that's it. It could be someone else playing it but is vey characteristic of Airto. In any case, I hear it and I doubt it is Cobham or Mouzon playing it. So there is an uncredited percussionist, at least to my ears. The Left Bank Yearbook says that Hank Jones was playing with Elvin on 4/1/73, but I don't hear a piano. Maybe he cancelled. Edit: OK, he is on the later tracks. Interesting addition to an otherwise piano-less band. Are some of these MP3s edited?
  8. Something sounded weird... On the third piece, which is Storm. I hear those kind of Bird sounds he makes on Live Evil. I could be wrong.
  9. Don Alias was also on the sessions. I did not know Airto was only overdubbed. Burton was also on the unissued Shorter record. Maybe it is not Airto, but it sounds like the kind of sounds he made on Live/Evil. What do you guys think? You mean this disclaimer? 10. Weather Report 'Improvisation 1' is 'Storm' from Odyssey of Iska. I hear Airto on this track. and I think it is Mouzon, not Cobham. Could these be out-takes from the sessions for the first record, or maybe rehearsals? The last tune is another take of 'Storm'.
  11. That has to be 1971, not 1970. I assume these cannot be downloaded.
  12. I just got the Japanese reissue of Archie Shepp's On This Night, but it does not have the bonus tracks. Bummer. I see they are in the 'Archie Shepp - 5 Complete Albums' box which I had not considered getting because I had all the rest. Turns out the box is cheap. Another option is to download the whole thing at Amazon. I did see that the box has a live Version of 'Hambone'. Is this the version from The New Wave In Jazz concert? Thanks, Bertrand.
  13. Very nice that he did this! There are a few things to add.
  14. Freddie told me at some point he got an axe. I wish I could have gotten the story on tape. I think he got himself banned from Blue Note forever.
  15. She's on Cats Vs. Chicks produced by Leonard Feather, the champion of women jazz artists of that period. Without him, none of them would have recorded at all.
  16. Where and when is the Harold Land from?
  17. Even though he pissed me off, I am still glad I hooked Zev Feldman up with the Left Bank cats.
  18. Does Norma Carson fit in? I have been chatting with her daughter who just popped up on Facebook.
  19. As Fawn Hall would say, sometimes you have to go above the written law.
  20. Man, would LOVE to see that. The recording is soooo good.
  21. The Smalls issue is very tricky. I saw him berate a famous musician for not wanting to play there although he was willing to play a larger venue. And I did witness a Melissa Aldana gig where no one in the front row, just a couple of feet away, was masked and they were laughing and giggling. She seemed very nervous. I stopped watching. Spike himself always walks around without a mask and has been taken to task. All of this can be seen on the videos, of course. Anonymous complaints are always sleazy, but it seems there were not so anonymous complaints also...
  22. The Wes and Bill Evans craze are a Resonance thing.
  23. I scrolled through the film a bit. I see the quartet scene. The Ornette music is some Prime Time stuff, and some large group with strings. At some point, the quartet performance and the strings are heard together. Freddie is co-author on the songs. Ornette wrote one song with lyrics. All very, very weird. It would be nice to isolate the actual Ornette tracks, they were obviously recorded in a studio separately. But yada, yada, yada, no commercial potential. I wonder if the quartet piece is live. Possibly not.
  24. I am wondering if it the same guy in all cases.
  25. Clearly. Conversely, they overestimated my naivete.
