  3. I am probably going to buy a Blu-Ray player soon. Any recommendations? And are there any that are multi-region, or does one have to do that secret code thing? Thanks, Bertrand.
  4. Has anyone ever heard the Freddie Redd episode? Bertrand.
  5. I just got the BYG CD of Yasmina/Poem For Malcolm. I definitely hear Hank Mobley, but I am having trouble pinning down the exact passages. Does anyone have more details? Thanks, Bertrand.
  6. It's a CD called 'Here And How'. I put that in the subtitle, but I see now that the subtitles do not show as prominently as they used to. Thanks for the info, Brownie, Bertrand.
  7. I see that Dewey Redman is on this. Does he play on all tracks or just a few? Is Sheila Jordan on all tracks? Thanks, Bertrand.
  8. There will be a mini-celebration of Pepper Adams in DC next month. On 4/17, Gary Carner will give a talk as part of the UDC JazzForum series. The next day, Frank Basile leads a 3-baritone celebration of Pepper's music at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, as part of the Take 5! Series. Bertrand.
  9. Those Bobby Hutcherson/Harold Land Antibes concerts are right up there. Hope they get properly released one day. Bertrand.
  10. Newark, actually. He came down to D.C. in December 2011 to play the Mark Masters arrangements with my friend Brad Linde. I haven't heard of his activities since, although he may have had a gig in NYC last year. Do you want his number? I hope I get to see him again soon. The 2011 concert was amazing. Bertrand.
  11. I had missed that thread. Sounds very good indeed. Tim Ries actually told me last week that when he plays with Billy Drummond, they always play a couple of Grachan pieces. Works for me; I think Grachan is an incredible composer. If Billy comes to DC with Malaby and Alessi I'll make sure to catch them. The concert tonight was great - very original arrangements of Grachan pieces by Corey Wallace; 'Riff Raff' with a hip-hop beat was amazing. The drummer, C.V. Dashiell really nailed it, as well as his feature on 'Nomadic'. The Moncur compositions performed were: The Coaster Nomadic Ghost Town You Dig! Blue Free Thandiwa Evolution Riff Raff Love And Hate They also did a couple of Corey's originals inspired by Grachan's music which fit in perfectly with the program. Bertrand.

  13. And it's not his composition!
  14. I will be in London this Spring. What record stores are still open for jazz, if any? Is there any good place to hear jazz other than Ronnie Scott's and Pizza Express? Anyone here live in London proper? Thanks, Bertrand.
  15. Exacting discographers are the only kind of discographers who should be allowed to compile discographies. One of my two or three favorite jazz books, period. Nothing plodding about the writing in the least. Bertrand.
  16. Ordered the Jackie. I could not not buy a book on Jackie McLean. Bertrand.
  17. There's a Jackie McLean bio out??? Where have I been. About to check Amazon... Bertrand.
  18. Coincidentally, my son turns 13 today. I still remember posting about his birth on the BNBB. Where did time go? Bertrand.
  19. His ex-wife Paula Hampton reported on Facebook that he has passed away. Bertrand.
  20. Can't wait! Great choice of tunes.
  21. This is very sad news. My deepest condolences. Bertrand.
  22. I don't look for those things, although some make my way. Things from 'dime' have also come out legally. Bertrand.
  23. Dang - any chance this could be released legitimately? Bertrand.
  24. I just picked up a DVD from the 1992 Tribute To Miles tour (the 60s quintet with Wallace Roney). Is this a legitimate release or a bootleg? I haven't opened it yet, since I am considering returning it if is a bootleg. Maybe the inside tray card would shed more light. Any thoughts? Bertrand.
