Man, I bet that gig with Harold Land was killer. Any recordings out there? Bertrand.

Joe Chambers is on drums, although initially Jimmy Cobb is announced. Bertrand.

When do you expect the physical CDs to be available? Bertrand.

They are on the way from da Bastards. Thanks everyone! Bertrand.

That is too weird. Bertrand.

Cindy Crawford? Bertrand.

I've identified 5 Pablo Basie CDs on which Jimmy Forrest appears: Fun Time Basie Big Band I Told You So! Prime Time Montreux '77 Is there one or two of these on which Forrest is especially prominent? I'm on a big Forrest kick these days. Thanks, Bertrand.

My pressing is also 1999. That REALLY sucks. I certainly don't want to hunt for another copy; this one was hard enough to find. Fantasy was far from 100% great. Bertrand.

I was happy to score a copy of Shirley Scott's Soul Sister CD from Newbury Comics via Amazon, but there seems to be a missing track. The CD case claims that the CD is 76 minutes long and includes the entire Soul Sister LP, plus 'Now's The Time' from the same session with Lem Winchester, which apparently appeared on a different LP made up of odds and ends from different sessions. However, the CD is actually only 69 minutes long and this track is not included. My assumption is that they intended to put the extra track on the CD (going as far as to list it on the booklet), then forgot. 1) Did they make up their mistake by putting the tune on another Scott OJC or Legends Of Acide Jazz? I think I have all of Scott's Fantasy titles, but I don't think it's on there. 2) Is there a pressing of this CD that has the missing track? Doug Payne's Scott discography does not mention the missing track, which either means he did not notice or that his pressing has the tune. Thanks, Bertrand.

I am eyeing the following: 1) Curtis Amy/Frank Butler: Groovin' Blue. Bobby Hutcherson is on this. Any reason not to get it? Does Bobby get ample solo space? 2) Earl Anderza: Outa Sight. I know about the prison term for some ugly crime, and I know about the two tracks with harpsichord, but the two Anderza tracks on the Dupree Bolton Uptown CD are so good that I am very tempted by this. Any reason not to get it? Thanks, Bertrand.

Duh - of course. I even helped do some copyright research on this which was used for an article in the 'Current Research In Jazz' online journal. Bertrand.

Turns out there are a couple of Brahms lieders based on Lenau poems. I will get the reference later, but there is a CD out there. Schumann does have a lot more, though. Bertrand.

Sure glad this board has strict rules about what can be sold/traded. Bertrand.

Track 5 is not 'Perdido' as far as I can tell. What is it? It sounds like a bop standard I cannot name at the moment. Thanks, Bertrand.

That's just Dr. Lonnie Smith using a stage name for contractual reasons Bertrand.

It has been said on the board before that Ornette got the masters back a while ago from whoever owns Impulse (I think it's Verve). I'm not sure this means that Ornette could not release these eventually. There could be many reasons why he has not done so yet. A complete release would have to include the single 'Man On The Moon'/'Growing Up' (Impulse 45-275) as well as the 2 LPs. Bertrand.

I was told that Brahms wrote lieders based on poems by Hungarian poet Nikolas Lenau. Is this available on CD? A google search proved inconclusive. Thanks, Bertrand.

My son found a free version of the Shazam app. which he downloaded to the iPad. It seems this app. can identify a song by title and peformer, which I assume means it matches against a database of officially available recordings. This is a very good feature which I will no doubt use, but I need something more. I need an app. that is composition-driven. In other words, it will identify a composition even if that particular version is not in the database, but another version of the tune is. My son noticed that there is a version of the app. that you can get for a bucks. Has anyone used the non-free version? Will I be able to get what I need? Even if the software I need does not exist yet, I'm sure it will eventually. Thanks, Bertrand.

>Sorry about the confusion. I meant that the version of 'Black Market' >used for Havana Jam was the one that appeared on 8:30 (because Zawinul >didn't have the time he would have needed to mix the version actually >recorded at the Cuban festival for the Havana Jam record release). >The version on the 8:30 vinyl IS actually the one intended for the >8:30 release (not the one intended for, but not placed on, the Havana >release). So what is the version of 'Black Market' that is on the new Havana Jam reissue? The timing is 9:00. I'll compare it to the 8:30 version but I think they were different. Bertrand.

8:30 is complete. It includes Scarlet Woman and is about 79 mins. in length. 12 bonus tracks are included in the set -- 9 come from Live and Unreleased, 3 are from Havana Jam. The original double LP of Havana Jam contained a version of Black Market not recorded at the festival (it was the one used for 8:30). In 2005, Zawinul mixed the Havana version. That as well as an unissued version of Birdland from the same show are included in this set. The new Black Market is 9:28 and included at the end of the cd of the same name. The new Birdland is 6:36 and included at the end of the Heavy Weather cd. Hope this helps. Thanks for the info. I was hoping there would be more unreleased studio stuff like the version of 'Directions' in the Forecast Tomorrow box, but I guess not. So the only thing I am missing other than 8:30 is the Havana version of 'Birdland'. Not clear whether or not I have the Havana 'Black Market'. The version I bought in iTunes is 9:00, and the version on my 8:30 vinyl is 9:44. Neither of these seems to be the 9:28 version in the box. Bertrand.
-
The U.S. pressing was missing 'Scarlet Woman' for space reasons. The European version was a complete 2-CD set. Bertrand.
-
Are there any unissued tracks on the Weather Report box? Also, is 8:30 complete in this set? Thanks, Bertrand.

I'm a bit confused. Which two tracks are not on the TOCJ that should be, and do either of them have KD on them? What are the 6 tracks that are on the TOCJ, and which have KD on them? Thanks, Bertrand.
