  1. You guys know how much of a Wayne Shorter nut I am, and I would not pay $650 for a Shorter box unless it included hand-written scores for everyone of his compositions, including the unrecorded ones. Bertrand.
  2. Nobody alive remembers, alas, since they were chugging up all that beer (all you can drink? Egads - how many people drove home plastered that day). Bertrand.
  3. The chronology in Jeff McMillan's Lee Morgan bio states that Lincoln Center has no record of this event. In other words, the only information we have that this ever happened is the db article. Bertrand.
  4. Stuart Kremsky (who was the archivist at the late-lamented Fantasy records) told me that 'Remembrance' is a piano solo. Bertrand.
  5. I doubt there was anything formal like that back in the 60s, but perhaps Miles asked them not to. Interesting question. Bertrand.
  6. I never understood why they didn't ask Hank what the tune was. Bertrand.
  7. I'm a bit lost on this thread. If I understand correctly, it should include: 1) All of United 2) All of Woody III 3) All of For Sure!, including the bonus track that was incomprehensibly left off the Wounded Bird reissue 4) Everything that was on the Steppin' Stones CD + 'It All Comes Back To You' 5) Other, never-before released material from the Steppin' Stones sessions. I assume it will be a big box only, no individual CD reissues. If I want the tracks I don't already have from the Wounded Bird and Steppin' Stones CDs, will I at least be able to buy them as downloads? Thanks, Bertrand.
  8. This set is about 20 years overdue. Better late than never. It's now $40 on Amazon, which is not bad for 3 CDs + 1 DVD. So we know it includes on CD: Antwerp 10/28/67 Copenhagen 11/2/67 Paris 11/6/67 And on DVD: Stockholm 10/31/67 Karlsruhe 11/7/67 For the CDs, were any of these actually released as European bootlegs (JMY or other), and if so, under what titles? I think I have some of Paris (believe it or not, as a Miles Davis Gold Collection which I got for $4), but not the others. I think the parts of Paris that were released were on a CD called No Blues. As for volume 2, I suspect it will the lost quintet from '69. I hope they don't use the same DVD that was in the Bitches Brew 2-CD set. Bertrand. PS: Alankin, why do you think one track on the DVD might be a problem?
  9. OK, I just ordered it from original spin media since no one else had it. Those of you who got it this way as well, since it's coming from Canada, did you have to pay customs? Thanks, Bertrand.
  10. I did not recognize Bardens at all! Bertrand.
  11. Mike Fitzgerald's discography site has the timings; I will put the tracks in the same order. Amazon The Prayer/Taking A Chance On Love 4:42 Cabin in the Sky 3:53 Old Ship of Zion 3:15 Do What You Wanna Do 4:05 Honey in the Honeycomb 3:17 Happiness Is a Thing Called Joe 5:45 Savannah 2:39 Love Turned The Light Out 3:39 Love Me Tomorrow/The Prayer 5:18 Mike Fitzgerald The Prayer/Taking A Chance On Love 5:14 Cabin in the Sky 3:53 Old Ship of Zion 3:15 Do What You Wanna Do 4:05 Honey in the Honeycomb 3:17 Happiness Is a Thing Called Joe 5:45 Savannah 2:39 Love Turned The Light Out 3:39 Love Me Tomorrow/The Prayer 6:02 and 'In My Old Virginia Home' is 3:32. There is a bit of confusion about the two medleys with 'A Prayer', but other than that the timings match up, so it seems like the track is just plain AWOL. Too bad. Perhaps the merged track Romualdo though he saw was one of the medleys? Bertrand.
  12. This is the track listing for the Fuller from Amazon (#3 should be 'Newdles'). 1. The Clan 6:16 2. In The Wee Small Hours of the Morning 4:54 3. Newdies 7:37 4. The Breeze and I 4:00 5. Dear Old Stockholm 9:05 6. Ladies' Night 6:30 7. The Prayer/Taking A Chance On Love 4:42 8. Cabin in the Sky 3:53 9. Old Ship of Zion 3:15 10. Do What You Wanna Do 4:05 11. Honey in the Honeycomb 3:17 12. Happiness Is a Thing Called Joe 5:45 13. Savannah 2:39 14. Love Turned The Light Out 3:39 15. Love Me Tomorrow/The Prayer 5:18 1) The track missing from Cabin In The Sky is 'In My Old Virginia Home', based on the track listing for a Japanese import I found. However, it might have been merged with another track as pointed out. Does anyone have the timings from the LP? 2) For Soul Trombone, it looks like the track titles may have been switched based on the wikipedia entry which shows the timings in the same order but not the song titles. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy. I am thinking about the Shirley Scott. Is that one complete? Bertrand.
  13. I love those pre-turban Lonnie Smith photos. Bertrand.
  14. I was wondering the same thing. I can't find a track listing. Bertrand.
  15. An audio preservation copy should be made of these things for historical purposes, but I'm sure there is no funding for this. Of course, the world will end in few billion years anyway, so does it really matter? Bertrand.
  16. Thanks, Jim, I will send them an e-mail. And I will buy the whole concert this w/e. Bertrand. PS Tried to send you a PM, but your box is full. Just to make sure you know that it was not you I was annoyed at.
  17. I must not have been clear. I listened to it and I knew right away that it was 'It's Time'. I wanted independent confirmation that it was the composition in question so I don't look like an idiot when I e-mail them. I didn't say 'I heard a rumor that it was 'It's Time', I said that I believe it is 'It's Time'. Wasn't it obvious that it meant I listened to it? Jeez, get a grip. Bertrand.
  18. There's an allegedly unknown tune in the Roach set which I believe is 'It's Time'. If someone can confirm, I will then shoot them an e-mail. Bertrand.
  19. Freddie is mostly playing in the DC/Baltimore area, and most of his gigs are organized by my friend Brad Linde who brought him East. He also teamed up with Butch Warren for a few gigs - check out the December House Party on youtube. The next scheduled gig is at a museum on 9/30 (www.bradlinde.com), but other gigs are in the works. Freddie has also played in NYC in the last couple of years, mostly with Brad and Chris Byars, but also occasionally with others. He also went to Sweden in March with a couple of people from NYC. I have posted several gigs in the past in the live shows forum. Bertrand.
  20. Only one scheduled: 9/30 at Honfleur Gallery (Southeast DC) with Butch Warren and Brad Linde. More brewing though... Bertrand.
  21. Got those three Africa/Brass rehearsal takes from that Creed Taylor Impulse! box. Now I need personnel and recording dates... I had NO idea Mosaic boxes were available this way. Any way to search for them specifically? A couple of attempts failed. Bertrand.
  22. Update: My friend Brad Linde, who is the man responsible for Freddie's return to the East Coast, told me that when they rehearse these pieces, Freddie will sometime correct the chord changes. I think this proves he is definitely the composer. Bertrand.
  23. On the plus side, they spell 'Thelonious' correctly on their track listing for Jeff Beck's Blow By Blow. I believe the CD cover is missing the second 'o'. What did the LP show? Bertrand.
  24. Sounds dreadful. Bertrand.
  25. Just got my newspaper-format catalog from oldies. They are selling a Miles Davis CD called Highlights From The Unplugged Nickel. Bertrand.
