  1. I didn't have a chance to buy it yet; hope you didn't download the last copy. Bertrand.
  2. This is now available at the Vault. Of course, it would have been even better if they had playing Mingus compositions... Bertrand.
  3. The cover of One Flight Up just says 'Niels-Henning Orsted'. Has NHOP been 'NHO' on other recordings? I suspect it was a liberty taken by Reid Miles for esthetic reasons. Bertrand.
  4. I have been trying to get musicians in D.C. (and elsewhere) to put together a Massey retrospective for years, but no luck so far. It sure would be nice to be able to possibly premiere the three songs I found at LC (with the blessing of his family, of course). Salim Washington is often in town with Katy Roberts, so I think I will approach him. Does anyone have contact info? Bertrand.
  5. Are they playing together, or two separate sets? Bertrand.
  6. OK - figured it out by googling a bit. In 'preferences' (which is found under 'edit'), choose 'parental control' and click 'ping' in the 'disable' option. Perversely, the 'ping' box needs to be checked to get rid of it. Bertrand.
  7. Looks like 'Ping' was already off in my account settings. It does not appear when I preview a song in the iTunes store, but shows up when I click on a song to play in my main music folder. I knew I should not have upgraded the version of iTunes. They always add some fucked-up feature. Bertrand.
  8. I just downloaded the latest version of iTunes because I could no longer get to the iTunes store with the old version. Now, when I click on a tune it has the word 'ping' appear. What the hell is this? It doesn't post my iTunes directory to the web or some such BS, does it? Bertrand.
  9. Hot Tuna and Charlie Musselwhite at George Mason University tonight. They did a version of Duke Pearson's 'Cristo Redentor'. Bertrand.
  10. You can do some of that with a Wii already. Bertrand.
  11. My $8 copy is on the way from Borders'. I believe it shipped before the bankruptcy announcement, so I should still get it. Looking forward to hearing the ultimate use of 'space' by Wayne Shorter. If they had had cell phones back then, he might have been able to call from the traffic jam and they would have switched the sets around. I'll never understand why the sets are so short at Newport. Bertrand.
  12. Great title, though! Bertrand.
  13. Well, so much for my plan to sell my Milli Vanilli CDs in the 'offering and looking for' forum. Bertrand.
  14. Thanks so much for coming all the way down for this gig! And thanks to Rolf and his friends (and my co-worker Vicki and her fiancee) for coming as well. It was a very successful night - first set sold out! A special thanks needs to go out to Brad Linde for all his hard work on this and other projects he has put together over the last few years, sometimes in the face of extroardinary challenges. Two years ago I said to him: 'I wonder if I'll ever get to see Freddie Redd', and next thing you know... We are lucky in D.C. to have someone so dedicated to presenting interesting and original jazz programming. Bertrand. P.S. Also thanks to Gigi Gryce, who was indirectly reponsible for my meeting Brad
  15. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_Angel_(film) Has this ever been out on DVD? Thanks, Bertrand.
  16. It's the Soon-Yi thing. At least one critic openly called him a creepy pedophile. I liked Celebrity a lot. Barcelona was OK. Bertrand.
  17. The Duke gig was equally killer, but totally different. They did two short encores, the first of which was 'Joy Ryder' and the second a beautiful piece that looked mostly composed but that I did not know. First time I have seen two gigs in a row by this band. Can't wait for the next one! Bertrand.
  18. You guys are the best! See you there. Bertrand.
  19. Wish I could be at the Fat Cat. I already planned to be at Hot Tuna/Charlie Musselwhite in Virginia that night, and also one trip to NYC in a two week stretch is enough Bertrand.
  20. That's great that you are coming down, Peter! I really appreciate your support. Brad Linde has been working really hard to put this together, and he did not always get the help he could have used. I can't help on Friday since I will be at the Wayne gig at Duke U., but I will be there Saturday. It is Saturday that you are going, correct? Usually you can stay for both sets with one ticket. I've never had a problem and I don't think this gig will sell out, although pre-sales are starting to pick up quite a bit. Bertrand.
  21. They actually were reading from scores for most of the concert (more than the gigs I've seen recently), but nothing I could recognize. Some of it might have been parts of 'Lotus', the piece from Philly. Bertrand.
  22. The Shorter gig at Town Hall was outstanding. Was anyone else there? Bertrand.
  23. Why does their listing show different personnel for 'Status Seeking'? Bertrand.
  24. I hope to see this band, sounds great. Dr. Lonnie is a national treasure and a really nice cat to boot. Bertrand.
