  1. My copy was a Japanese pressing I got in a Borders' bargain bin for $11. Bertrand.
  2. I'll try to watch the whole thing later but, in a nutshell, what does he say about Mobley? Bertrand.
  3. The check went out today. Bertrand.
  4. I wish the 6/3/62 date from the DC Jazz Festival would come out. This was a George Wein production so Wolfgang has it. Bertrand.
  5. Thanks for the warning. I have the CD. Bertrand.
  6. You already have copies of Snuck Out? This is very tempting... Bertrand.
  7. I would get Straight Ahead next. Dolphy, Booker Little, Bean etc. What a lineup! Bertrand.

    Duke Pearson

It is so great to hear of all the efforts you have been making to keep your uncle's legacy alive! Bertrand.
  9. This is so very tragic. My heart goes out to these poor people. Bertrand.
  10. The listing at Amazon.ca seems to suggest that Dewey is only on 3 and 6 and this seems to be the case listening to the clips again. Bertrand.
  11. You might help elucidate a mystery. A lot of the copyright deposits for compositions from 60s Blue Note recordings, including Duke's, are in the same handwriting. Could it be Duke's? Also, are there any original manuscripts by Pearson? Thanks, Bertrand.
  12. Checking out the sound clips on iTunes, I think it is: Redman on tracks 3, 4 and 6. Brecker on tracks 1 and 5 (not sure about 1). The clips do not have a sax on track 2. Can anyone who has this confirm? Thanks, Bertrand.
  13. Are you connected to the Duke Pearson estate? Bertrand.
  14. Does anyone have this CD? Which tracks does Dewey Redman play on, and which tracks does Michael Brecker play on? Thanks, Bertrand.
  15. I'm sorry I have the Mosaic box and can't see the cover. Please move this thread to the Mosaic forum. Bertrand.
  16. I just did an interview with that German POW on the Monk cover. Fascinating stuff. Bertrand.
  17. I assume the Riverside came out before 1965, so that one is really from 1961, correct? Bertrand.
  18. Some of the arrangements for this session (which are a bit different than the usual Messenger arrangements) were apparently done by Leon Mitchell, who was briefly Blue Note's A & R man in the early sixties (he contributed some great compositions to Horace Parlan's dates). I thought I saw this on his website, but I guess not. He still has the arrangements. Bertrand.
  19. I just ordered the Monk in France for $5. Are there tracks on there that are not part of the Hyena fraudulent release (which I have)? Sorry to speak ill of the deceased, but this just adds to the evidence that Dorn was not very good at his job. Bertrand. P.S. Actually, I'm a bit confused now. The claim is that some of the tracks on the Hyena are exactly the same as some of the tracks on the Riverside. Brownie says the Trema is the true 1965 concert, but now John L. says the Trema version is also the same as the Riverside?
  20. When he is going to be at Bohemian? He's at An Die Musik in Baltimore this Sunday. Bertrand.
  21. access is restricted to the library's reading rooms in Washington and Culpeper Wasn't aware that their holdings were accessible in Culpeper. In fact, I was lead to believe it was the opposite. To listen in D.C., you make a request and a digital version is prepared in about a week for you to listen to on their PCs. The digital copies, once they are made, are accessible for good anytime you want. It's a shame I don't get to spend as much time there as I would like, considering how close I am. Bertrand.
  22. Is 'Six Bits' a different tune than the one credited to Manny Albam which appears on KD's Arrival of KD on Jaro? Thanks, Bertrand.
  23. There are also some great clips of Butch with Freddie Redd from the Jazz Loft tribute at Twins on 4/20/11 and from their gig at Bohemian Caverns on 2/11/11. Enjoy the CD - Butch's playing is very strong on this recording. Bertrand.
  24. Lee Morgan does not play on 'Popi'. I bought his version of 'Cowboy' on iTunes since I am a Lee completist, but honestly Ben Allison's version is far better. Bertrand.
  25. Butch's CD, which came out in France about a month ago, can now be purchased in the U.S., either through this link: http://concertsonthehill.info/bw/index.html or Amazon marketplace. A beautiful record, Butch's first as a leader at the tender age of 71. Disclaimer: I have no financial interest in this. Someone kindly offered to help Butch with this. Bertrand.
