  1. Major apostrophe abuse here! I've never seen their name like that on any of their record's. I had the exact same thought. What's up with that?
  2. This Steeplechase twofer includes Short Story and Scandia Skies. Any idea of where to get this at a reasonable price? Thanks, Bertrand.
  3. I believe the new batch of Candids were CDRs. There was a thread somewhere. Bertrand.
  4. Listening to this now. A beautiful tribute from a friend. Not familiar with the trumpet player Tom Kirpatrick but he nails the sound. Highly recommended to anyone not allergic to tribute albums. Bertrand.
  5. I was at the gig where Jo Jones threw a cymbal at Bird. I was in the front row and that thing almost hit me. I never spoke to Papa Jo again. Bertrand.
  6. I was tempted by the Dickerson, but because they are Candid, I was wondering if these were in fact CDRs. Anyone know? Bertrand.
  7. At a Hot Tuna gig in Virginia tonight, Jorma Kaukonen dedicated 'If This Is Love (I Want My Money Back)' to the royals. Bertrand.
  8. Peter, Right now, this is the only gig scheduled, but Brad is still trying for NYC gigs, so if something materializes, I'll let you know. Perhaps Brad should be looking at Philly as well. The two places I can think of are Chris' Jazz Cafe and Ortleibs'. Any other suggestions? Bertrand.
  9. Should have posted this earlier... A celebration of the Jazz Loft with two musicians who were there: Freddie Redd and Butch Warren. Also on the bill: Brad Linde, Brian Settles and John Kocur on saxophones, James King on bass (alternating with Butch) and Nasar Abadey on drums. Each set begins with a brief interview with Freddie and Butch about the loft. Twins Jazz, DC, tomorrow 4/20 at 8 PM. Bertrand.
  10. Thanks to Daedalus books, I now have cheap copies of the Patterson/Ervin Legends Of Acid Jazz as well as the one called Just Friends. If I trust jazzdisco.org, I am missing 'People' from 5/12/64, and a 8/25/64 session with Sonny Stitt called Soul People. Is that everything Patterson and Ervin did together? Is the 8/25/64 session (plus 'People') available on another Legends Of Acid Jazz CD? Thanks, Bertrand.
  11. Is 7/20/77 Mingus' last public performance? Bertrand.
  12. Who is that? Bertrand.
  13. If they didn't know it was 'Ugetsu', how does Cedar get his royalties? Bertrand.
  14. Finding reasonably priced copies of these two CDs is high on my wish list. Bertrand.
  15. Glad he chose not to 'whip it out' this time. Bertrand.
  16. This is the downside of collecting vinyl rather than CDs - with the vinyl, you don't get the alternate of 'Tenor Madness' featuring Hank Mobley instead of John Coltrane. Bertrand.
  17. Happy birthday, Claude! Bertrand.
  18. Worked for me. I wanted to get the Weather Report Berlin 1975 CD/DVD. 1) The coupon did not work online. 2) It's not in the stores. 3) However, the clerk offered to try a ship at home order and that worked. With the 50% off and no shipping (my wife has a membership), I got it for under $15 including tax. Bertrand.
  19. Great song regardless. Bertrand.
  20. I had the same problem. The download key was greyed out, so I thought I could not move the tunes to my computer. But then I right-clicked and selected 'download' and it worked. So now the tunes are on my computer and in the cloud. Bertrand.
  21. There are rumors it's been on a CD-R Bertrand.
  22. That is very odd, becasue I was just told on Monday that an 'all-star' Miles alumni band would be opening for them on this tour. I find it hard to believe that they would fly all these people over and not use them on every gig. I will post again if I find out more. Bertrand.
  23. Actually, you are not hikacking at all. My question is directly related to Gary's project. A friend of mine is trying to organize a Pepper tribute in D.C. so I am gathering recordings of the 43 compositions inventoried by Gary. That's why I was looking for Ephemera. I have two of the three titles Gary has issued so far, but I'd also like to get as many of Pepper's original interpretations as I can. I can tell that some will be tricky to come by. The Frank Basile and Jeremy Kahn/Gary Smulyan are highly recommended; great music indeed. I will get the trio 'record' soon. Bertrand.
  24. Is this available on CD at a reasonable price, or should I go the download route? Bertrand.
