  1. Any thoughts on this one? I heard a track from this on the radio the other day and rather liked it!
  2. I'm glad you guys posted a link for track #3, as I found it used today (after searching online! Is this really OOP?). Listening to it right now, and am thankful for yet another BFT that has pointed me in the direction of an artist I'm unfmailiar with!
  3. I was gonna order a copy of my own, but am I reading this right? Zweitausendeins wants something like 25 EUR just to ship it overseas? If so, thanks but no; I'll stick with my happy little burn, thankyouberrymuch. And speaking of that...... Many thanks to deaus62 for making a copy for me until I can find my own legit copy, which I hope to do soon. This is a wonderful album, one that invites many repeated CLOSE listenings. I guess my only real gripe with it, and it's a small one, is the number of bass solos (but then, that's only because I'm not a fan of bass solos to begin with). But there is so much to love about this, not the least of which is the telepathy between Hank and Elvin. You guys were right: even on brushes, Elvin's still a monster player! But the tune I keep going back to is the title tune. What a song! So much emotion, and yet it's never overdone or bombastic; just very direct. So I listened to it back to back with the Great Jazz Trio album, and I realized there's no comparison. Sure it's Hank and Elvin, but it's two completely different sessions and feelings. Needless to say, I like 'em both, not one over the other. So, a great choice for an AOW! If someone can confirm that Zweitausendeins really does charge that much, then I'll continue my search here in the States. Otherwise, I'm gonna order that sucker posthaste!
  4. Not only am I the president of Hair Club For Babies, I’m also a user. But for you, my friend, because you’re family, I give you a sample!

    Summer RVGs

Black Fire is Joe Henderson's best quartet album, IMHO! This will definitely be worth the upgrade from the Mosaic!
  6. More congratulations, and thanks for posting the pictures. She is absolutely beautiful! As for Allison, she is just radiant; has that new mother glow! Gotta love it!!!!
  7. 1. That’s gotta be Jaco. I’ve never heard any of his solo albums, but I gotta figure this isn’t Weather Report. 2. This, OTOH, could be WR. If not solo Wayne Shorter. Not sure of either. 3. I don’t know, but I can’t wait to find out! Whatta grooooove!!!! 4. My stock answer to a track like this is Larry Young, something from the Mosaic, either Of Love and Peace or Contrasts. And usually, when I give an answer like that I’m usually wrong. But that’s my guess anyway, simply because of the vocals. And I should know this tune, too, but I can’t recall it. 5. Wow, this song is 11 minutes long? It’s very dreamy. It sure didn’t feel that long! Another one I can’t wait to find out the answer! 6. Very strange. HAFC™. 7. Yikes! NEXT!!!!! 8. HAFC™. Kinda boring, sorry to say. 9. The strings intro almost lost me, but it got kinda interesting. I like how it’s integrated into the structure of the song. Sounds kinda Tyner-ish. 10. HAFC™. Again! Very exotic, though. The sound effects are kinda grating, though. 11. Egad, I’m lost! HELP!!!! 12. Wow, now THIS is cool! I love drones, though; and this is as good as it gets! Another one I can’t wait to see the answer! 13. Sounds very Quartet Out-ish, kinda like “Days of Wine and Four Roses.” Obviously, this isn’t them (unless of course Sangrey’s switched to trumpet!). 14. Buddy Merrill solo? (heh heh heh) Honestly, I don’t know. Sounds sorta like early John Fahey. Sorta. Joe Pass maybe? 15. Bill Doggett? No, wait: Andy Williams! That’s it. Since I can’t be serious about anything, I’m going to bed!
  8. Yeah, and besides, Ringo's singin' 'em! Makes 'em that much more enjoyable! Always liked Ringo's deadpan vocal delivery. "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" OTOH, is just plain dumb. A foreshadowing of what was to come in McCartney's solo career (right up there with "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey," except that MSH didn't have Linda's..... er, "singing" on it.) (Edited for placement. How my response got mixed in with Moose's post, I'll never know.)
  9. What, they didn't have janitors there? (P'doom, KSSSHHH!)
  10. Pepsi! Imagine my surprise when they actually have it!
  11. What's the name of the Smiths song that goes: "Just shut your mouth/......(forgot the lyrics)..../I am human and I need to be loved/Just like anyone" Come to think of it, that could pretty much be ANY Smiths song, but I always liked the beat of that particular one. The Cure Disintegration: my sister and I each bought our own copies so we wouldn't have to keep sharing one! Loved the sound on that one!
  12. Man, I fuckin' HATED that song, for obvious reasons: Teacher in 1987: "Alfred Rearick?" Smart-ass student: "He's here, but you can call him Al." If I had a nickel.....
  13. Yeah, you say that now; wait about 13 years and see if you still say that! Seriously, CONGRATULATIONS to you and Mrs. b3-er. This is wonderful news and I hope and pray you enjoy every single day with her; they go by WAAAY too fast!
  14. I love that song! Me too! Especially the bass!
  15. Aw, come on..... Arturo Sandoval is gonna be at the Denton Arts & Jazz Fest.
  16. I thought Schapp would never shut up. For a second there, I thought I'd accidentally logged onto Air America and Al Franken was discussing Mingus......
  17. So THAT'S how he got that sound!
  18. I think BFS is more a reflection of how tired and burnt out the Beatles were, circumstances being what they were at the time: tour-record-tour-record-tour-record ad infinitum. So though it is rather weak, I don't necessarily blame them for it. Anyhow, I think Help! is far weaker! And something that was mentioned earlier I fully agree with: there's still something to be enjoyed, no matter how much I dislike it. So even though I can't stand "HG," there's still the sound of Ringo's drums. I don't know what he did to get that sound, but it sure makes all the difference in the world (for me) on those late period Beatles albums.
  19. Thanks 7/4!!!! Listening right now!
  20. Johnny E's band Friday night, Crispell on Saturday; mighty fine weekend of entertainment if I ever saw one!
  21. Insipred by the 50 Worst Songs thread; if you're a Beatles fan, is there one song (or maybe even more) that absolutely grate on you? For me, it has to be "Hello Goodbye," one of the worst songs ever written to begin with. This wouldn't even be good enough for a McCartney solo album; it has no business being associated with the Beatles. The fact that it got to number one on the charts only indicates just how stoned record-buyers were back then. The words are lazy, the arrangement boring, the sentiment just a notch below pure cheese; Lennon was right on when he said "This one smells from a mile away." How 'bout you?
  22. "Electric Avenue" Eddy Grant "Heart and Soul" Huey Lewis and the News "Born in the U.S.A." Bruce Springsteen Right now, anyway. That could change in five minutes.....
  23. That was Jackie McLean using a pseudonym. I know. I didn't! Learn something new everyday! Groovy!!! This is why I love the sense of community, and why everyone should feel free to ask questions, regardless of whether they have obvious answers or not!
  24. You mean to tell me there was no room on this list for Creed?!?!?!?
  25. That was Jackie McLean using a pseudonym. I know.
