Most Atlantic LPs recorded when they started using stereo sound better in mono - practically all Coltranes, MJQ, and Blakey's with Monk - the latter being a particulat annoying example. Monk on one channel, the rest of the band on the other! How dumb can one be?

It's not my find - it's in the Tom Lord Discography, which probably has it fom Ruppli/Cuscuna's Blue Note Discography, so Michael should know about it. Spinning Song For My Daughter right now - mesmerizing renditions of Scarborough Fair and Ron Carter's Eighty-One (Wilson was great at selecting tunes by his peers!). Billy Byers wrote very original string arrangements, much like his work for Hampton Hawes. That said - all of Wilson's albums deserve a reissue - they're all excellent, IMO:

They sure were hard to come by - I remember wanting to hear Fletcher Hendrson recordings back in the 1970's after reading about them, and there was noting available until French CBS repressed "A Study In Frustration". I still have that 4 LP box.

Yes, but the books on top need some support!

Are there any box bargains currently available?

I pre-ordered from amazon UK - thanks for mentioning this option. Twenty Euros incl. shipping, compared to almost three times as much from amazon.de. -
(RIP) Is Jack Wilson (Atlantic & Blue Note 60s pianist) dead?

It's a CD well worth having. They were an excellent quartet. -
Since nobody opened this annual thread so far, I thought I'd post this link to an overview by the Jazz Journalists Association: http://news.jazzjournalists.org/2019/01/final-bars-of-2018/ As always, too many ....

The Disconnected Works 1980-2018
mikeweil replied to AllenLowe's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Got mine but will not have time to post the Percy France tracks before the weekend. This will take me some time to dig in, but it is a treasure trove, that's for sure. Doc Cheatham side by side with Julius Hemphill, just to name a pairing on disc one - ideal working ground for musicians that hate to be pigeonholed. -
