  1. Got a copy fom amazon.de for € 36 including shipping. Wanted it for the session with McFarland in the first place, but since used copies of that single CD go for much higher prices I decided to take 17 and a half discs of Bill Evans as a bonus ...
  2. AFAIK the original Nijinsky choreography was never recorded. I have a ballet history DVD somewhere with some excerpts of later replications, but I have to locate this first. p.s. This should be a proper recreation:
  3. Got the DVD two weeks ago - very well made, but McFarland stays as mysterious and unique as he always was after viewing the documentary, if ya know what I mean ... the bonus live CD is nice, but not overwhelming.
  4. Alright, now there's no more way to escape the approaching sixtieth .... happy birthday, Jim, and take care! All the best fom the other side of the pond!
  5. I have that one and love it, but wanted a more recent trio recording - since the one I ordered is just that, I'm perfectly happy.
  6. Harold Mabern will be in town in January, very much looking forward to this, will reserve tickets today. Trio with John Webber and Joe Farnsworth - ordered the Smoke Sessions CD as an appetizer.
  7. Some sick stuff ....
  8. Somehow I never had much sympathy for Benny Goodman, and this just reaffirms it.
  9. Found a used copy in excellent condition from a German amazon seller, for about the original price. Had to skip this when it went last chance for financial reasons, but wanted it for the session with Quinichette. Now that I can listen, I like it all, great music all the way through.
  10. Now here's a group coxing a real groove out of that piece, at last - perhaps that's what he had in mind? European classical musicians always give rather stiff and unsensual renditions.
  11. All About Jazz Obituary
  12. The recording location of that session was not documented. The Lord Discography says New York, but that's unconfirmed. There were five tracks recorded, btw. Baraka (Blessing) Maulana Kawaida Dunia Kamili
  13. Thanks - it's down on my Kindle already. Holiday season reading.
  14. This turns out to be my favourite Italian white wine, glad my store got a new batch:
  15. Allan, try Bear Family - they do a lot of country music and are great at doing box sets on Mosaic's level in that genre. http://www.bear-family.de/
  16. Now that makes sense - I guess that's the way it happened, Splicing .....
  17. I'd probably pull a piece of 17th century harpsichord music - Johann Jacob Froberger's "Méditation sur ma mort future" which he wrote after having survived an attack by a group of robbers on his way to London. But Lester Young's 1940's recording of I Can't Get Started would be nice, too....
  18. I get this error message when I try to view the attached pics: "You do not have permission to view this attachment." p.s. ... so I'm not the only one ...
  19. Seattle Times obituary Most will know him from his association with the Quincy Jones Band and its members' solo recordings. R.I.P.
