  1. R.I.P. Those Pawnshop live recordings show that he must have been a very warm personality.
  2. Jim, you should make ordering all Organissimo CDs not yet in the aspirant's collection a condition for joining the forum!
  3. Now if you wanted to delete other members' posts, that could be a problem ...
  4. Actually it is on CD . Lonehill has put it out combined with one of Most's Bethlehem sides . See here . Not surprisingly it's a needle-drop , but 'vinyl-artifacts' are only really apparent on one track . Good sound otherwise , considering the vintage . Any flute or clarinet fan would enjoy this I think . A rare chance to hear Bob Dorough the instrumentalist as opposed to vocalist , as well . My initial thought was, check the Andorrans first - you always can rely on them for much of these rare items.

This guy must have been a studio musician for some time - he did some great work with Frank Zappa, too.

Forgot to mention this saw a cheapo label CD reissue (Laserlight) with two tracks added on which Foster's flute is the only woodwind.
  7. The Pettifords were on a Danish Debut LP and reissued on CD by Black Lion. The Sam Most (a 10") was on a Xanadu LP - a nice session. But it never was on CD, you're right. The others you mention never saw any kind of reissue, AFAIK.
  8. Here's details on the session from Noal Cohen's Teddy Charles Discography:
  9. His own LP is on German Ebay as a Buy-It-Now item: Ebay link The seller asks for € 99,99 .....
  10. Levister also arranged this Prestige All Stars date: His own Debut LP is one of the few items OJC never reissued .....
  11. Yes, Ada Moore: Ada Moore at AllMusic
  12. Didn't he do the arrangements for some girl singer on a Debut LP? Ada Moore perhaps?
  13. Jeez - I'd hate to miss that one ...
  14. According to information from the Tjader family circle there were planes for more CD reissues, but were dropped again when personnel changed at Universal. Forget about it ...
  15. If I were to compare Feldman to any US pianist, I would go with Orrin Keepnews, who, after hearing Feldman during rehearsal for the "Cannonball meets the Poll Winners" session on Riverside with Wes Montgomery and Ray Brown, coined the phrase: "How can someone look like Leonard Feather and sound like Wynton Kelly?"
  16. Sad news indeed - he was the only one among those extremely "hyper fluent" (as Jim called it) trombonists that ever moved me, because he had so much feeling and soul at the same time. He was really the top trombonist on the New York scene in the late 1950's when he recorded his first album, and all those excellent sessions with Lucky and Quincy - these are highly recommended. He made a good living in the studios, I understand, but could have recorded a jazz session more often than he did after 1960. R.I.P.
  17. At least Monterey Jazz Festival Records finally got around to issue a CD of Tjader's contributions to the Festival, it includes the complete performance from the first 1958 festival and a track each from four subsequent performances. An aspect less nice is that the label holds all the rights, so the Tjader family won't get any royalties out of that issue, a close friend of theirs has informed me. Oh well ..... The disc is nice, nonetheless:
  18. It did drive me mad - couldn't figure it out. A pro friend couldn't either, and recommended re-installing XP. I went to the shop yesterday, and after checking the hardware for defects, they went on to do just this. Turned out some software had killed the network drivers during some de-installation process. Everythings back to normal. Now I have to start all over, downloading all kinds of software, reinstalling my personal files (which were all safe) - takes some time, but I'm back here again.
  19. My dear friends, I will be here only sporadically as I encountered some trouble with my new comp's internet connection. Oh well ...
  20. It may taste strong and slightly hot but this vanishes as soon as it mixed with other ingredients - the strong taste comes from the highly reactive components. The color depends on the amount of chlorophyll - the green ones are the healthier brands. Maybe you just got the wrong brand - there are hundreds created to the same high standards like good wine, and as with wine the cheap can taste fine, but will rather not. Don't expect to find a high quality extra virgin olive oil for less than $ 25.00 / Litre. There are plenty of fakes on the market - the quantity of bottles labelled extra virgin is much higher than can be harvested due to the high standards. There are some that are delicious, almost sweet and so fruity that you can use them for fruit salad, like Ravida from Sicily - try it if you can find it!
  21. That gal on the Milburn cover is swell ..... I have that LP - won't trade no CD for it.
  22. If I understand it correctly, TR refers to the type of stylus. Go to http://www.gradolabs.com/ and check yourself - there is a table of replacement stylusses on the page. That specific stylus seems to be no longeravailable, so it must be a rather old specimen. I'd rather skip it. I'm using a Grado Blue right now, had a Black before which already was very good. They work well with the Thorens TT I have. But the buzz is noticeable under certain conditions - nothing you can do about it, a dealer confirmed. A good dealer should be able to tell you if they work fine with your TT.
  23. Yes - I too no longer have that one since that suite was added to some other reissue as a bonus. But I just had a look at the LP box, and the Liberian Suite was included!
  24. RVG used close miking for the ride cymbal to get more overtones, but if the cymbal is suspended rather loosely, it moves around, the volume level changes all the time and you get a sound similar to a phasing effect. The only solution would be overhead miking of the drumset, but I can't remember RVG ever used that.
  25. Yeah, because they work harder
