  1. I will pull out Curtain Call for breakfast tomorrow. The Mobley Mosaic box is one of those I need not be anxious to get when it hits Last Chance ...
  2. I think Philly Joe Jones belongs on that list, too!
  3. Big thanks again, Big Al, for your big help! Going on tour tomorrow for a week through the Netherlands and Paris, Mr. Bassman will be in the band, too - I will push him a little to re-jump on the wagon!
  4. That Fantasy used this is hard to believe ... they replaced it soon:

Is this one the solo album, or does she have a band with her?

While we're at it: Isn't there a solo album, i.e. just Nina and her piano? If so, what'sthe title and label? Thanks!
  7. Same here - still have to check out most of what he recorded, but I heard was always excellent! R.I.P.
  8. To me this bassist looks more like George Morrow - so that would be Harold Land's or Sonny Rollins' tenor, Teddy Edwards' being a remote possibility.

That's an album that gives me chills every time I put it on!!!

Is there a legit edition with the bonus tracks? Which edition would you go for? Quite a chaos with Bethlehem albums... I'm afraid not. There's a CD on Gambit with the complete session ...
  11. It was handed over to me half an hour ago, and I enjoyed the session with Groove Holmes immensely! I like that transparent sound this music has, combined with the occasional power bursts. This was a band, or rather an arranger with a style completely his own. Great stuff! I only wish the booklet would be more elaborate on his early big band recordings, which I have on two Chronological Classics CDs .... My set is # 4454, btw.
  12. Sorry Thom, I enjoyed it a lot but couldn't find the time to write anything down. Recognized the Fuller/Houston track, but nothing else - some interesting stuff, most of it totally unknown to me. Thanks!
  13. Arrived back here from a short vacation and what do I see? Happy Birthday!!!!!! Thanks for being around here, Chris!!!
  14. Oops - forgot that I already did that - there's a set on the way to me!
  15. Yesterday I happened to find a German translation of Solo Hand, the first Evan Horne novel, and read through it in two sessions - that's an indication that it's good entertainment, and I find it more interesting than other crime novels as it is much deeper into the jazz life and music business than almost all other crime novels. I ordered three more as my reading fodder for the upcoming tour through the Netherlands and Paris - just the right thing for long bus rides or killing time waiting for the sound technician or the gig ... I intend to get me the original versions, too - the translation is very good, but a bit beneath the true jazz feel, even though the translator lives in San Francisco and knows the author.
  16. Great!!! El maestro!!! Can you post sone pics of Peraza and Aguabella, too?
  17. I'll certainly be back to normal when my next BFT is due. Will listen to all, but cannot guarantee I will have the time to post on them. Excellent job, Al - you're really BIG! :tup
