  1. I say, belatedly, that any selection with the Collier, Elvin, McGregor and best of all the Chambers is one hell of a selection. This project is fascinating, revealing and potentially quite costly!
  2. Review of the Clark book here https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/feb/13/dave-brubeck-life-in-time-philip-clark-review
  3. That's too young. I only know his recordings with Methenywhich I really enjoy on the occasional outing. Seemed essential to the whole sound of that band.
  4. Steve Lacy - Outings [Ismez] I'm a bit of a Lacy agnostic (I know, I know...) but this is superb. Great cover too.
  5. Yes, it's very annoying. I very nearly purchased that last month from a certain Leicester based supplier. I have 'Bura Bura' and was intrigued by the rest of the concert.
  6. No Love in HJ's either so you didn't miss anything
  7. Zollar, Mangelsdorff, Konitz - ZoKoMa [MPS]. LP. From my visit to a record shop today
  8. I think I'm going to also. I often prefer the later Impulse albums, which I appreciate is a minority opinion, and the India Navigation so this set is right in my timeline
  9. Nice to have a post about the music. I agree it's a transitional stage. Interesting that it's just a quartet whilst the contemporaneous albums, or at least from the year previously, were with more musicians. Track listing is linked here https://transversales.bandcamp.com/album/live-in-paris-1975 I don't know the piano player Mixon, also on organ which is intriguing. Other players are Pharaoh regulars. I think this could be a very nice issue
  10. Never got rid of mine. I'm pleased about that. Today I've streamed, listened to an LP and a couple of CDs. I may even listen to a download later. I think I just like newly-released music too much to allow the delivery method to hamper my choice.i remember holding out against CDs for a good while - too expensive, required new kit, enjoyed LPs until there was a Tim Berne release I really wanted but on CD only, 'Fractured Fairy Tales' iirc. It's all personal choice after all but it does make me smile when a thread like this once again, and there's been many recently, ends up being all about formats rather than music. Still looking forward to hearing the Pharaoh...
  11. Looking forward to getting this after sampling online. Sounds like a good one.
  12. The Tubby Hayes Orchestra - Tubbs' Tours [Fontana] from 'The Fontana Albums' box set. I don't have an original to make a comparison but the sound on this is just fabulous.
  13. Thanks Brad. I nearly wrote in my first response the words "Falange" and "forest" but wasn't sure it was that one. It was. Different cover in the UK didn't help. I do remember it being a good read. Hope you enjoy the rest of it
  14. I remember being very taken with that one but can't remember much detail.
  15. Glad it was good. I really like the new album. I think I noticed they're approaching a tenth anniversary which seems incredible Meanwhile... Kuzu - Purple Dark Opal now that is a fine noise indeed ( and I don't usually care much for full on guitar)
  16. They've almost taken the roof off the couple of times I've seen them. There's a good new recording to purchase too.
  17. Were they only allowed to choose US artists? and the other two for me
  18. I was afraid that's what you'd say. They're both sitting in my bandcamp cart awaiting a moment of weakness
  19. Defeat in the face of the onslaught https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/education/shortcuts/2019/dec/02/the-pedants-pedant-why-the-apostrophe-protection-society-has-closed-in-disgust
  20. I nearly fell for that boot, glad I didn't. Now I'm wondering whether I really need all the added material on the legit reissue
  21. Tribe - Hometown: Detroit Sessions 1990-2014 [Strut]
