  1. I've just plunged off the back of your recommendation too, Steve
  2. Just found out from New World that a shipment of these is on its way to UK distributor Proper Music. Possibly of interest to European members too.
  3. Thanks to Joe in the New World Records thread Still mining that furrow? I loved those two too. how are they sounding today? The Rosewoman on Soul Note is worth a listen iirc. When I'm back with my collection I'm going to follow your lead HutchFan
  4. That Harris looks great, what a line-up to take on that music. Thanks for bringing it to my attention
  5. Genius, pure and simple. Sometimes I listen to this and think it's better even than 'Astral Weeks' preceded by my favourite mid-period album and now I'm going to listen to that Eddie Hinton, thanks @soulpope
  6. Memories, need to revisit. Thanks for the prompt
  7. I'm away from home so can't listen to 'In Pursuit' so can't give you a comparison based on a recent listen, I'm afraid. The new one certainly stands alone as a good recording of a fiery set. Can't believe anyone into either musician won't enjoy it.
  8. That's my favourite by a country mile. Desert island for me. I've listened to the Most this afternoon and really enjoyed it very much
  9. Roscoe Mitchell & Mike Reed - The Ritual and the Dance not their first collaboration but a mighty fine one nonetheless. Reed's always been one of my favourite drummers
  10. I've certainly read Steve Coleman talking about the influence of Hammond on his music, not inconsiderable if I remember correctly
  11. It's a very good album, recommended to anyone who likes any of the three involved. there's a companion release without Drake but with Tatsuya Nakatani. Also very good but not blue
  12. There's a lot worse ways to spend the day just a shame it had to mark a sad occasion. That second one we played to death when I was at university in the 80s
  13. I love Kenny's sound. A great writer too. I miss seeing him play which I was lucky enough to do on many occasions in many different line-ups. Not that one though.
  14. Listening to that now, hadn't heard about it
  15. Perelman/Wooley - Polarity I'm always interested in Jazz flute recommendations, I'll be investigating this one now
  16. It's great Perelman/Wooley - Polarity Mitchell/Reed - the ritual and the dance descension (Out of Our Constrictions) by Natural Information Society with Evan Parker
  17. Terrific. Just ordering a copy now
  18. Download available, no CD. It's worth getting What did you make of it? I remember buying and being very excited, not least as it was difficult to get over here at the time and it was a dream line-up for me in my earlier Jazz listening years.. I listened to it again a few months ago for the first time in years and thought it sounded of its time but good of its time
  19. Thanks for posting Le Gendre is an excellent interviewer and writer

    Evan Parker

Yep. Wilson, Van and EP. All artists whose music I hold in very high regard, all apparently have swivel-eyed tendencies. I'll continue to play their music but there'll be a bad taste. I was all set to buy the upcoming EP this morning but actually held back after listening to the Son d'Hiver clip (of which I thought the musical element was great) as I'm not sure I want to put money his way right at the moment. I'll probably weaken.

    Evan Parker

Well that completes my trinity of shame.

    Evan Parker

First they came for Van Morrison, then Evan Parker....two of my musical heroes. I knew of EP's Brexiteer views, he'd expressed them quite widely and he'd skated around his Covid views in a recent Vortex piece. I wish it wasn't so but there we are I sincerely hope so but these days I find nothing surprises me.
  23. All of them were important albums for me at the time, and the subsequent Coleman and Osby's. I was just discovering Jazz beyond the big names and those JMTs sounded like nothing in Jazz or elsewhere that I'd heard before but at the same time I could hear the hip=hop and funk influences that made an easier entry. It has to be said that the Jazz-rap experiments were very of their time and sound so now. I'd add Cassandra Wilson's albums on JMT to the list as well, especially the first three. I don't often revisit them and when I do find the Wilsons probably stand up best. Gary Thomas, whatever happened to him?
