  1. Thank you. Will certainly catch up after the event
  2. Angles 10/9 - Today Is Better Than Tomorrow [Underflow] Liberation Music Orchestra for our times
  3. Maybe he's learnt in the last ten years...spends enough time at Oto to be able to All this talk of Jouck Minor intrigues. What do I need to know about him? I see a trio with Thelin and Favre, any good?
  4. I sincerely hope so. Less than ten years ago I saw him with John Butcher, John Edwards and Mak Sanders. He seemingly paid absolutely no attention to the others, ploughed his own furrow drowning them out for the best part of an hour's improv. It was either a bold statement of musical independence or ignorance. I know which one I felt it was. Love nearly everything he's done with SY btw
  5. Moacir Santos - Coisas [Polysom, reissue]
  6. Emil Richards & The Microtonal Blues Band - Journey To Bliss [Impulse] some very interesting music amongst the hippie stylings
  7. Kai Winding and J.J.Johnson - K. & J.J.:Israel [CTI/A&M] very pleased I took a punt on this cheapie recently. Really does have something about it - the playing, the arranging, good tunes
  8. According to Gilles Peterson she didn't like the cover picture though, so probably didn't have a hand in that. Hence a new one for the reissue. Yes. Arc is his new reissue label. This its second release.
  9. Good old Gilles
  10. Money talks. Big money talks loudly. Frankly I'm fed up with all the news coverage of the "will they, won't they" with the Premiership and the return of 'top flight' football in Europe. As much as I like my football it really does fade into insignificance compared to other priorities. Online adverts for betting companies and the Bundesliga today say it all really. Given the privations that many are suffering right now the sight of such astronomically reimbursed, pampered sportsmen playing again at the moment actually sticks in the craw somewhat. Bread and circuses
  11. Grant Green - Nigeria [Blue Note] Tone Poet
  12. Johnny Scott Quintet - Purcell Variations For Five [Fontana] New arrival. The music is a lot better than the cover image...the Variations have nothing to do with the estimable Henry as it is.
  13. Interesting, thanks. It's such a strong line up of musicians I couldn't see it not delivering
  14. I need to get a copy of that one. How is it?
  15. Morton Feldman Piano Music [5 CD] from Another Timbre. Possibly the ideal lockdown soundtrack as time stretches... and in total contrast Gordon Beck Quartet - Experiment In Pops [Major Minor] Mono LP. For when things getter livelier...

    Anthony Braxton

He must think that all his "friendly experiences" are rolling in £ or $. I would have bought any number of 2CD set versions of these recent boxes. It surprises me that all the recent collaborations are so successful to merit such documentation. But maybe that's not the criterion. But he knows what he wants to release and good luck to him if he's making money from them. He's done enough in my book to do what he wants unquestioned by the likes of me.
  17. That article just makes me so glad I was on the losing side 250 years ago And given what's happening over here at the moment it takes something to say that.
  18. I'm in, what a lines up! Looking forward to hearing it all. I'll wait until 5 June so you benefit from the waiver
  19. Thanks, led me to find it to rent on YouTube. Weekend viewing sorted
  20. Today...so far Kenny Burrell - Introducing [Blue Note, Tone Poet] Gary Thomas and Seventh Quadrant - Code Violations [Enja]. Prompted to dig this out by mention of Thomas in another thread Strata Institute - Cipher Syntax [JMT] New Directions In Jazz Unit, directed by Bill Le Sage - Vier Celli+Jazz [Phillips] Zagreb Jazz Quartet - With Pain I Was Born [Fontana]
  21. That's now on my purchase list for June 5 too. For Thomas mostly but also for Peterson Jr.
  22. And same here, although I did listen to the album yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Possibly the box's influence
  23. Nicely done Sir. I think the sax only releases were some of my first Hemphill working backwards in my early Jazz days from Marty Ehrlich. With you on WSQ too.
  24. Many Happy Returns for the 11th to TWWWLBYM
  25. 'Jack Johnson' followed by 'In A Silent Way' All of it in one sitting? Some great music across those albums. Abdul Wadud on 'Raw Materials...' a highlight
