  1. Kuchen/Strom/Ostvang - Melted Snow [No Business} Frank Wright Quartet - Uhuru Na Umja [America] Brotzmann/Uuskyla - Red Cloud On Silver [Omlott]
  2. I'm still waiting to hear if my copy has been shipped. I appreciate that they are a small concern but they've been exceptionally poor communicators. I paid for my copy over 13 months ago and have only had updates as I've repeatedly chased them up. Now the thing is out I've nothing again.? That is poor indeed. I tend to get prompt replies from the shop manager Mark but maybe that's because I'm usually about to spend money with them It probably doesn't help to know that copies are on display at the venue
  3. Gil Evans Orchestra - Parabola [Horo] first listen. 'Stone Free' stands out, not least for Lew Soloff's contribution
  4. Brotzmann, Adasiewicsz, Noble, Edwards @ Oto tonight. all being well

    Evan Parker

It's out and very good. I picked it up from Oto yesterday and played it twice straight off. Parker's tenor is magisterial throughout, unhurried and vital. It's a very immediate live recording which puts you right there with all three trio members. Recommended
  6. Thanks for the tip. I guess it's time to buy less records and save for this VPI. me too
  7. Evan Parker, John Edwards, Chris Corsano - The Hurrah [OtoRoku]

Just happened upon this interview. I don't remember it posted before (apologies if so). Disarmingly modest as usual
  9. Thanks for posting. Xybert. That clip certainly entices me to get the one album not least to hear the trio with a new drummer. Time for me to reacquaint with Mr Shipp
  10. You're looking at $60 if you want one online now so the 2cd option has got to be the answer. Good on AUM for sorting it out. One thing's for sure from that source it will be produced with care and attention
  11. Thank you. Cheapest on Discogs currently £140 so will remain 'must have' for some time I think
  12. my 'must have' track 15 identified but I can't see the image.......I need to know online search it could be Tony Scott?
  13. so you're as crazy as me you guys crack me up Sidewinder - I have the Liberty that I'll happily swap for any of the other LP versions, apart from the Pathe, to help you out
  14. Laila Lalami - The Moor's Account lots of good things written about this and Pullitzer and Booker prize nominations to add to the buzz. the idea of telling the story of Conquistadors from the perspective of one of their African slaves is interesting. The writing however won't flow for me. It's as if it's a translation which self-evidently it isn't. I'll persevere
  15. He looked like that when I last saw him three years ago with Ribot. He played strongly though How was Magic Science? I hear good reports of the London gig
  16. I see from his discography that I'm several behind already....is he releasing more now or am I slowing down? Maybe I reached saturation point at 'Art of the Improvisor' before which I have nearly all of his releases. That does happen I find
  17. The show that launched the Branson empire! Amon Duul II and Boys of the Lough on the same show!!!! And here's the one where I first heard Genesis: Spooky reading these over 40 years on. What I find interesting about those lists is how most of the bands and musicians on these lists are still held in a degree of high regard and/or considered influential (with the exception of Genesis ). Now is this because Peel and producers were good at spotting music that would leave a legacy or is it because, more likely, the legacy is a product of being played on the show and the people writing about music today are doing so with a hindsight informed by their listening to Peel
  18. Charles Mingus - Let My Children Hear Music [CBS] Mingus was my entry point to Jazz and for many years top of my listening pile. Having just acquired this I realise quite how long it is since I've listened to him. Far too long. Time for a reacquaintance. Superb music and playing
  19. I definitely need professional help! typo, must be. that figure's per day, surely?
  20. I don't see the publisher blurb shouting from the rooftops that it's authorised or involves Grimes in any way. Wouldn't they be making that point if it were? found a brief seemingly enthusiastic reference to it on Grimes' website which at least might suggest he's not unhappy with it
  21. Just watched it and came to post the same thing. To think this is the end of This Is England is a crying shame. One of the great chronicles of Britain in the late 20th Century. Continues the tradition of realist TV drama that holds a mirror to society in general, asks questions of it and holds it to account I now want to rewatch all the series from the beginning It will be fascinating to see what Meadows does next
  22. LondonJazzNews and Gary Crosby both reporting this sad news. He made it to 100 and made some great music along the way http://garycrosbybass.com/
  23. They've been releasing consistently high quality sessions since the move to France from Sweden. Unsurprisingly an emphasis on French musicians
  24. Gorgeous George will be proud of you, Buoying the economy with reckless pension spending (or very well deserved celebratory treat) I'm sure love will endure.....
  25. That's certainly got me thinking about how best to maximise streaming. Sounds like it's really hitting the spot. they have a nice record label too
