The splash so big we're getting reviews of NY gigs in the Guardian...... http://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/aug/26/kamasi-washington-blue-note-new-york-review sounds like a fun evening
-
It was a special night indeed

Nearly bought the LP a couple of times.Glad I won't have to pay the scarcity premium now. Nice one some nice Kuchen in the pipeline too
-
Glad to hear they got back to you eventually. I remember the concerts but didn't attend. May be one to investigate. I hope it doesn't indicate a retreat from releasing material. They must have a treasure trove. I'm holding out for something from Evan Parker's birthday celebrations last year

What live music are you going to see tonight?
mjazzg replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Yep, that Gilgore sounded good from over here too. Thanks for posting -
Absolutely! Kamasi's sold out one of London's bigger concert halls in November. It's a double header with Go Go Penguin, a acoustic piano trio (just signed to Blue Note) who are making big waves here and drawing crowds from a young demographic crossing into dance music. They're a great live experience but one that would probably upset 'the purists' out there as being too popular and populist. That' s entertainment!

Tony Oxley - Ichnos [RCA Victor] finally found a copy at a price I was prepared to stump up.

Joseph Cornell - Wanderlust. Royal Academy of Arts a very thought provoking introduction to this artist's work. Certainly left me wanting to know more about the man behind the art. With my post above it seems that this summer is one of discovery of American artists whom I feel I should have already known more than I did Last weekend. A trip to Tate Liverpool to see Jackson Pollock - Blind Spots http://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-liverpool/exhibition/jackson-pollock-blind-spots Well I knew plenty about this artist but the focus on the later works provided a good show (and Liverpool's always worth a visit) -
"After Brubeck: Paul Desmond 1968-1977"

I thoroughly enjoyed the broadcast too especially with the discussion going on in that other thread . Thanks for posting -
Ha ha, funny seeing bogan come up here. It's a very specific term, as in, you could be all the things in the above definition but still not be a bogan, and you could be a bogan and be none of those things. It used to be that you had to be from West Auckland as well but i think the phenomena has spread out. Here's the best example i could find (NSFW language): I came across it in a btl comment describing Shane Warne and his recently unveiled 'tasteful' mural

bogan "the term bogan (/ˈboʊɡən/) is an Australian and New Zealand slang word that can be used to describe a person with a lower working-class background, or whose speech, clothing, attitude and behaviour exemplify a gratified working class mentality and depending on the context, can be pejorative or self-deprecating."

Charles Tyler Quintet - At WKCA [No label] purchased online with no research. On arrival it's undoubtedly a boot (from a radio broadcast) which is a shame. The music however is very good indeed

The Hill's a treasure trove for anyone who hasn't got the titles already. The Mitchell and the Blake could both fill big holes in my collection. Interesting

Does anyone know whether CDJapan take payment on date of pre-order or on posting date? Trying to avoid breaking the bank.....
-
Poesy for me too. Means I can finally stop flirting with the expensive LPs available

Agnes Martin retrospective at Tate Modern I knew next to nothing about her or her work before entering the galleries. I came away spellbound, clutching the catalogue to learn more. Works of great rigour and beauty -
as usual Niels there's lots of tasty looking music in that haul. I'll be particularly interested to hear your impressions of the Shofar and Double-Basse releases
-
Maybe so but you see some listeners can find a place and time to enjoy "quaint, retro-star with few original ideas" for what it is. Whether it's collateral damage in anyone's campaign I'll leave to the deep thinkers (and possibly chipped-shouldered) out there. There's no real harm in enjoying the music on face value, as retro as it is. It is OK to like retro as long as you're prepared to weather the storm of the "keepers of the flame". btw. loved your title referencing Kamasi in the list of your imminent releases on the other thread

Marika - Bohemian Drips Presents Marika [Bohemian Drips] featuring Korhan Futaci. Picked up at last night's phenomenally powerful show by Konstrukt at Cafe Oto followed by: Konstrukt and William Parker - Live At NHKM [Holiday Records]
