I imagine Jazz Snobs are more happy when pop stars hate anything and everything resembling jazz. As more than a semi-related aside: I really wish Ringo would release a jazz album. Anyhow, where was I? Oh, Just as I wouldn't bash John Mayer without hearing his blues album (I still haven't heard it by the way, maybe it's psychological avoidance), I won't bash C.A.. This girl has pipes. If she would put on about 100 pounds, hang out with Nessa for a year or two, get a boob job, she could probably blow away most contempory so-called jazz singers. Besides, and best of all, she still has some "freak" in her!!!

Bolton is one of the greatest singers who ever lived. His contribution to music indirectly helped with the development of Autotune. HE vocally coached CHER for Christ sakes. Dont' you believe in.. Love After Love? What is wrong with you people????

Paul was doing the wave.... Glad you noticed me, Greg. Took Randy a couple of sets before he realized that I was in the audience! It was a good show. (What's with Greg wandering around at the beginning of the tune? Couldn't find a seat? Uh Paul, I wasn't even there at that point. -
This disc sounds very nice. Well produced and wonderful vocals, imo. I really can't find fault here. My personal aesthetic lies elsewhere, yet this guy is damn good at what he does. Very enjoyable disc. g

7 Greatest Jazz CDs
GregN replied to brownie's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
That's exactly what I was thinking. Man, seven sure does limit it. -
Hmmm. Strong praise. Tony is bad for sure, but he is kind of doing that same realm as Joey, and well... I don't know. JOEY.... I can't turn this into sports. I should check out the new album though, before I give you too much of a hard time.

Thus the "pressure" of being rich. There is an overwhelming responsibility to "manage" the money. It's like being chained to an iron ball, I bet. It seems that rich people are seldom happy. You don't own things...things own you. Some of my best friends are rich. Most are also heavily medicated. Anybody read the book, Remains of The Day? Sometimes the money itself becomes the master. g

I only provide hookers these days. Only ugly ones, too. If you were doing Hip Hop the story would be different. I could even get pizza!!

Well it just came in the mail today. I am gonna take it out to the garage and listen while I do some spring cleaning. Will report back soon.

No need to be sorry.. I had to listen to the samples several times while not looking at the guy. I know that sounds funny. For me my primary intent is looking for essential concepts to lift for my own song writing projects. James does have some contemporary twists hidden in there. Now, our front guy is a 63 year old black guy. I can hear him singing these kinds of tunes, but with some different twist coming from the band. Some less safe than what James is doing. Trying to figure that twist out. I totally understand where you are coming from as my first responses were not that positive. One of the reviews actually referred to his work as a museum piece of sorts and meant it as a compliment. I guess I can't really argue with you on this one. Part of me agrees with you. Yet, I am diggin deeper on this guy. After I get the disc I will honestly report back. I may just have wasted 12 bucks. And maybe I didn't.

organissimo at the 2006 Detroit International Jazz Festival
GregN replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Maybe we can get hotel rooms for the whole weekend? I am glad they are doing this is Detroit! The city is doing fairly well in spots and some feel it is making a comeback. Lots of powerful movers and shakers doing great things. This festival is very cool and I for one am very honored to be a part of it. Maybe we can take the kids on Monday Jim? Get little Zora a cool beret and some shades? -
Van HoDown Online audio samples. I actually am enjoying these tracks.

OK they got me. I just bought the CD, via the organissimo site*, from Amazon. Jim, I imagine Freddie singing some of these sorts of tunes and well...it gets me a thinkin'. g *Jim chewed my ass for not supporting the site with my recent cd purchases.

Well just got an invite to the press conference for next week! I may have to sneak down there. -
Street Team or no, I had to check out the site. Seen him a lot on the Blues charts, you know, just beneath Root Doctor. This dude has some serious press and I am intrigued by his voice. Anybody else here give this guy a listen? Looks like he was just on Leno, fwiw. James Hunter

This is a public forum. If people read something here and want to respond to it, that is their right. I have one magazine in the UK that instead of defending itself here against what it considered "malicious attacks", just refused to review our latest disc. I'd rather the person come on and enter the discussion. "lawrence olds" may or may not have been involved in WBEZ. I don't think it really matters. He/she has every right to speak his/her mind on the issue. I believe Root Doctor (the band, not that guy who posts over at the other forum) has paid the price recently with one UK publication as well. Too much in the way of politics in the world of music it seems. I understand Chuck's hyper-vigilance as I imagine some folks sneak into forums just to stir up trouble and sometimes change a moniker to do so. I also understand Jim's desire to moderate here. On the upside (at least to some minds) organissimo has been invited to interview on the air at WBEZ just before their Chicago appearance in June. Pretty cool!
