Beckham is on the way to Milan
Aggie87 replied to B. Goren.'s topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
So now that some time has passed, what's the take on Beckham's value to U.S. soccer? Has he been worth the $$ they've given him? I haven't followed him too much, but it seemed like he was hurt fairly often, and didn't contribute all that much. But that's mostly based upon glances at headlines. I wonder if he's increased attendance at all too. -
edit - alot of non-working links above already

I remember you relating that dream before, Ptah, LOL. Weird Dreams thread Strange Jazz Dream thread

Mainly because I *DID* expect about 172 yards of offense out of the Cowboys, LOL. Which I never would have guessed would have won them the game!!! I had a bad week of picks, for sure! I've been picking SD alot this year, and they've not gotten it done. I thought Pit was going to beat the NYG's yesterday, and never would have guessed Miami would upset Buffalo like that. Just some bad decisions for me I guess!

Bev - Not sure where you're drawing your bounds on "classic jazz guitar" style-wise, but Django Reihhardt's gypsy/hot club music is well worth checking out! And Bireli Lagrene has made some wonderful recordings in this style with his Gipsy Project as well. Also second the Tal Farlow Mosaic recommendation, as well as the Wes Montgomery Riverside stuff, and Jim Hall Live! And Joe Pass - Joy Spring, and For Django.

Well, the Cowboys defense looked pretty good against the Bucs yesterday. Despite playing with most of their starting secondary out (Newman, Roy Williams, Pacman Jones, and Anthony Henry getting hurt), they didn't give up any big plays to Jeff Garcia. The young guys (Mike Jenkins, Orlando Scandrick, and Alan Ball) played pretty well. They're all going to have to step up their game this week though, heading up to play the NY Football Giants. And the front 7 better pick up the pace and get some pressure on Eli Manning too. Offensively, I don't recall ever seeing a game like this, where the Cowboys manage only 172 yards total offense, and yet come away with a win. Brad Johnson is TERRIBLE. The Bucs D knew he couldn't throw the long ball, so they defended only the short passes and the running game for the most part. That's not going to cut it against the Giants either. I hope Tony Romo is ready to come back early, or that the Cowboys at least consider putting Brooks Bollinger in the game instead of Johnson. At least Bollinger has something of an arm.

Perfect statement! My desire is for my two children to be able to say this about me when I'm gone. Like most parents, I'm hopeful I'm able to get them to a position in life where they can be independent, support themselves, and be happy.

Happy Birthday Daniel, and best wishes for the coming year.

Sorry - Obviously it's not as clear as I thought it was. "Vajjy" sounded liked a euphemism for a female body part....at least to me. Maybe that says more about me than anything else. -
Yes, just like here, but "real"!

In addition to whatever decisions he made about this board, I think he's had a busy year in the "real world". I haven't spoken with/heard from him since about May, but he was doing well at that time. Good guy.

Happy Birthday Matthew! Wish you'd come back too!

Man I had a bad week! Maybe I need to actually start thinking about these games. -
Wish I could - I'm flying into Philly on Friday, and we already have dinner plans and apparently I'm meeting a number of her friends later that evening. Thanks! If I were going to be there longer, I'd love to meet up with all of the NYC area board members! Unfortunately this trip isn't going to be longer. But if the relationship works out (and it has so far), I think I may be visiting up there a little more often.

Thanks for all of the suggestions! If I were going by myself (or had a more "veteran" listener with me), I'd love to see Cecil Taylor. I'm just not sure my friend would enjoy that one so much. I'm interested in sharing some of the music I like with her to see how she'll respond. Plus, I don't get to NYC very often obviously, so I'd love to see something I'd enjoy as well. Maybe the Cecil would be a good test to see how she can handle things! I think I'm narrowing it down to either the Charlie Haden gig or the Blakey tribute. GA - I like Bireli Lagrene's Gypsy Project recordings - you should check them out if you're interested in current Reinhart-style music.

Long story short - looks like I'm going to be in New York on Saturday Nov 8th. Actually going to southern NJ to visit a friend of mine for the weekend, and she wanted to take me into the city on Saturday. I had talked her into going to see Jim Hall at the Village Vanguard that night, but now that show's been cancelled. Cecil Taylor is playing there instead, I believe. I don't know if she's ready for Taylor, LOL. I don't know if he's doing a solo show or a band, either. Anybody know what else is going on that night that might be interesting? Looks like Charlie Haden's Liberation Orchestra is playing at the Blue Note.

Jacob Young - Sideways (ECM) Traincha - The Look of Love: Burt Bacharach Songbook (Blue Note) Traincha - Who'll Speak for You: Burt Bacharach Songbook II (Blue Note) Melody Gardot - Worrisome Heart (Verve) Never heard of Traincha or Gardot before, I guess they're the current "next big things" on their respective labels?

Ahem...

That's an understatement! Brad Johnson looked AWFUL with 3 ints, and a spaghetti arm, Marion Barber fumbled, Roy Willliams was O fer, TO had no impact. On D they couldn't stop the run or the passing attack of the mighty Rams. Granted, the following starters or key players are all gone right now: Tony Romo Kyle Kosier Matt McBriar - for year Sam Hurd - for year Felix Jones Roy Williams (the other one) - for year Terence Newman Pacman Jones - for year (?) That's alot of secondary starters missing, but still no reason to play as poorly as they have on D.

By the way, there's already a thread on this release here (which JMJK started, despite my post being the first), though parts of it are typical arguing between some of us.

I've had this one for a while and like it. Didn't know it had been one of the reissues. I lived in Stuttgart for 5 years and loved it. There was a good, frequent "Cd Boerse" (record/cd convention) in Ludwigsburg that I used to go to all the time there. Ludwigsburg also has a beautiful baroque palace from the 1700's:
