Need to spin some Jim Pepper here - thanks for the reminder, Flurin!
  2. Astros Baseball Fever - catch it! Now on a 1 game winning steak!!
  3. This. Nope. This: SWEEP! Astros are 0-7. Can you take off your black & orange blinders and believe me that they suck now?
  4. Mine's here too! All grease and no goose!
  5. I could see T.O. drumming up those rumors, since he's teamless, and not likely to get any further big paychecks. And I could see Dan Snyder falling for it. I hope Shanahan overrules Snyder's thinking, for the Redskins' sake.
  6. 1 point game at the half. Go Butler!
  7. Astros down 3-0 in the top of the 5th, versus the Giants. Gonna be a long season, when you are rooting for a team to simply go .500. Enjoy your good teams out there!
  8. Eagles just traded Donovan McNabb to the Redskins for a 2nd round pick! That's not much compensation for trading your starting QB to a division rival. They either think he's not capable of being a decent starter anymore, or the Skins really think Jason Campbell sucks.
  9. Giving a spin to Rez Abbasi's "Things to Come", from 2009. Some nice playing by both Rudresh Mahanthappa and Vijay Iyer on this one.
  10. Interesting interview with Sonny Rollins in today's Detroit Free Press, by Mark Stryker. Continues here
  11. Butler going to the Big Game! Looking like Duke too, unless they fold in the remaining 10 minutes.
  12. Just found this version of Joe Ely's "Letter to L.A." today. It's from New Year's Eve, at Antone's. He's reunited with Bobby Keyes and David Grissom here. Would have loved to have been at this show. I think it's a great version of this song, too bad it's chopped into two video clips.
  13. Happy Birthday!
  14. Bev, you might consider checking out Townes Van Zandt, a Texas country/folk singer/songwriter..
  15. Best wishes for your recovery and renewed health!
  16. I've been enjoying the Flatlanders recordings over the past couple of years. The group is comprised of Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, and Butch Hancock, all west-Texas singer-songwriters. It's in an alt-country vein, but perhaps not quite as "punkish" as you mentioned previously. Though Joe Ely definitely has some occasional punk leanings, with some of his earlier recordings and his Clash connection. I've enjoyed all of Joe's solo recordings that I've heard - the most recent being the live 1987 recording with Bobby Keyes and David Grisham. That's more rock than country. And I want to check out Jimmie's solo material as well - he'll be forever cool for his role as Smokey in The Big Lebowski.
  17. Well... I'm not sure it really explains why the Bitches Brew panel occurred at SXSW, but hopefully it describes the festival itself a little!
  18. You may not be familiar with the South by Southwest Music & Film Festival (website), but it's a very large week long event that attracts almost 2,000 bands, industry people, and tons of fans. Primarily rock and roll, but the list of bands that played is pretty long. I'm not sure there's anything quite like it anywhere else, to be honest. BFrank has attended for the past couple of years, and I've always enjoyed his updates about the music he's seen.
  19. Good matchup of two pretty evenly talented teams if you ask me. I think A&M should have prevailed, having the size and power game, but Purdue seemed to dictate the flow of the game once they had that big comeback in the 2nd half. A couple of years ago I never would have dreamed the Aggies would have turned into a decent basketball team, so this is all gravy for me! oh yeah, and STFU Conn!!
  20. UNI up by 2 with 0 seconds left!! Kansas was a "lock" to win the whole thing according to most pundits. This makes things interesting...
