  1. Ah,......but there's mono and ....... mono.
  2. Flemish chips?......now that sounds like a whole different story....
  3. A nice parcel from Paris arrived this morning from Gerard Therrones at Futura/Marge Records: This is a GREAT label......
  4. I believe this song was written after Joni had seen Lol Coxhill playing on the Hungerford Bridge outside the Festival Hall on London's Southbank when she was visiting the city in the late '60s. It's always been a favourite of mine.
  5. Too much information...........
  6. Was the Air album Air Song? I'm pretty sure my copy was a CDR and the packaging seemed pretty home made, but the label was Why Not and i purchased it from Amazon... probably a whole 'nother kettle of fish... Yes, two of them were the ones originally released on Trio in Japan - "Air Song" and "Air Raid". I re-bought them from Candid when they were re-issued on WhyNot. The third was "80 degrees Below '82" which I still have. I'm not sure that one has ever been re-issued.
  7. ...that's not what I've heard.....
  8. ...we're talking about the music, I hope ...
  9. I seem to recall that DMG made a few of Henry Threagill/Air's albums available via home-made CD-Rs some time ago and stated that they had been released with Henry's approval. In fact I bought some of them. Do we know for certain that they haven't sought approval before releasing these? However, looking at what is a pretty long and diverse list , I would think it is unlikely
  10. The Dexter Gordon, the Stan Levey with Dex, and the Howard McGhee come to mind. I especially like the Levey. Yep, agree with all of those
  11. That's why I've been sticking ordering from Mosaic. Legendary customer service including replacing a defective disc in one set many years after purchase. I have no problems with buying direct from Mosaic. In fact over the years I have bought over 40 sets from them. However I do object to getting stuffed with a significent additional charge for VAT and "Collection?". In the past the collection of these charges has been a bit "hit and miss" but I find that nowadays anything I buy from outside the EEC invariably gets caught in Customs and incurs both a charge and a delay. Why not buy from within the EEC and get rid of the hassle?
  12. Will you not have to pay a VAT/Import charge on anything delivered from the US? Coincidently, I today received the "Woody Shaw Complete Muse Recordings" boxset on Mosaic from JazzMessengers. Their price was about the same as buying direct from Mosaic but because they are based in the EU I never had to pay any additional charges...plus their service was first-class. Ordered and delivered within a week.
  13. I think you'll find that they have the CD sets as well: http://www.jazzmessengers.com/en/9903369/complete-catalog-of-the-label-mosaic-box-sets
  14. If they're available from JazzMessengers in Spain then it's free shipping at the moment.
  15. I'd go here for the Atlantic sessions: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Passions-Man-Complete-Recordings-1956-1961/dp/B002WBXHXC/ref=sr_1_4?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1389126784&sr=1-4&keywords=mingus+box+set It's dearer but it's a beautifully produced boxset and has a really good book(let) as well.
  16. It's a good album. I came across this one recently, too: I presume this is all on the Mosaic set?
  17. Some interesting new releases and re-issues from Marge/Futura: http://www.flickr.com/photos/98708939@N06/11795799605/sizes/l/in/photostream/ I can recommend the Billy Harper and Siegfried Kessler re-issues.
  18. Thanks for that, Lon........Oh dear, I think I might have to get it now.......
  19. Although I already have all of Woodys' Muse recordings as individual CDs, I'm tempted to treat myself to the Mosaic set. So, what I'd like some advice on is: 1. Does the Mosaic remastering improve the sound of the original Muse recordings? 2. How interesting/informative is the booklet? Has anyone bought the set and can comment on it?
  20. It is! I've been playing this over the holiday and much to my surprise it DOES sound better than my copy on Disconforme.
  21. VERY windy here today...lost the power for a while this morning. Fingers-crossed the worst has happened.
  22. What sad news. He was probably the musician that got me interested in West Coast jazz. I remember paying big bucks for Japanese copies of his Emarcy albums on vinyl back in the day. I still play his music regularly.
  23. my import CD order for this CD has just been cancelled - marked as unavailable Did you have to cancel it or did ImportCDs do it automatically? I e-mailed them a couple of days ago to cancel but have not yet heard anything. Unfortunately I paid via Paypal so the money's already left my account.
  24. I've given up on ImportCDs and ordered via Amazon....and received a notice that it's been shipped. Lets' hope I get my refund OK.
