Got a copy from Hiroshi when it first came out - a lovely session by this wonderful musician. His latest re-release "Little Afrika" is currently winging its way to me from from Japan. I hope that's as good! these sound very interesting. Just checked Amazon.jp and Faith would cost £44 which is too much I'm afraid. Now, I know Hiroshi is a name much referred to on the board but for a relative newcomer how does one order from him? Assuming it's cheaper than Amazon of course. Any hints appreciated. I checked the 'available from Hiroshi' thread but couldn't find any ordering details - is there a secrert handshake i have to learn? Hiroshi is 'Hiroshi Tanno' of earlyrecords. His website is: earlyrecords and I always contact him by e-mail at hiroshi@earlyrecords.com I have used him for many years and have never had a problem. The cost of the 'Little Afrika' CD was £23.36 including postage & packing. Expensive, I know, but the yen/£ rate is very poor at the moment and I would be very surprised if this CD ever gets a release outside Japan. Why not send him an e-mail and ask whether the 'Faith' CD is still available and the price he would charge for getting it for you.

I had the LPs and later the CD that came out on the Mole Jazz label way back when. I also saw Art Pepper during his stay at Ronnie Scott's when this music was recorded and he was really on fire! The music on the LPs/CD is uniformly excellent with both Art & Milcho Leviev on top form. The recordings also 'sound' very good so hopefully the remaining music is to the same high standard. Whilst I'm not interested in paying this sort of money for vinyl I would almost certainly get the set if it came out on CD for a reasonable price. How about it Laurie?

Apart from the unreleased X-75 session, I have all the music in one form or another ie CDs, CD-Rs & LPs. It's music I keep returning to and I'm really pleased to see it available again.

I agree. Best thing is to wait a while until all the unsold copies get remaindered and put on Amazon for a reasonable price. I'm waiting for that to happen to the new Jimmy Heath autobiography.

What Bob Downes is that, Sidewinder? 'Electric City' - remastered and reissued on Esoteric. They have also put out 'Open Music/Dream Journey' (originally on Philips), which will be my next order. 'Electric City' is pretty wild and sort of psychadelic in parts - in the same genre as that MFP LP 'Deep Down Heavy'. Not so sure I like Bob's vocals - but there's some fine sax and flute from him on this one ! Plus Chris Spedding, Ray Russell and Harry Miller. Ah yes, I saw that it had been re-issued again. I have it as a Japanese CD but I must say it's not one I play much; nor 'Open Music' I'm afraid. Perhaps I should go back and give them both another try. The one of his I really DO enjoy is 'Flashback' which I bought directly from Bob Downes via his German website: Bob Downes Website. It's a series of mainly live sessions from 1969-73 and has him playing in a trio with Barry Guy (bass) and Dennis Smith (drums).

Excellent news! My Amazon copy has shipped today (from "Europe") so will be with me next week I hope. What are the sleevenotes like? This should rank as reissue of the year. The sleevenotes are by Alyn Shipton and are, as you would expect, comprehensive. There's also a copy of the original album notes by John Dankworth where he refers to John McLaughlin, who's the guitarist on the album, as "an inscrutable genius who could deserve an LP of his own". If only he knew then what we know now!

Just to say that my copy arrived yesterday and it's been on the CD player every since. A wonderful re-issue which sounds as good today as it did when it was released over forty years ago. Apart from the wonderful arrangements and playing (especially by Kenny Wheeler) it sounds so good. I always thought that the master tapes had been lost, so if BGO had to remaster a vinyl copy then they've done a first-class job. Heartily recommended!
