  1. I heard live recently a Connie Crothers led group with Tabnik. While the Tristano "influence" was certainly present, there was more rhythmic diversity. The drummer was much freer, & overall the music was quite intriguing.
  2. Send an e-mail to sharp9@comcast.net It's finished but not due out in the U.S. for 2-3 months (I think). I believe Marc could be persuaded to send you a copy at the usual price he charges on the SharpNine website. Mine was mailed on Friday.
  3. Lynch has a new CD soon on SharpNine. It's a quartet with Bill Charlap on piano. I have high hopes for this release.
  4. There are some nice Louis Smith CDs on SteepleChase.
  5. I've also had problems with Airborne Express. They "misdelivered" 2 Mosaic sets to who knows where. The address they say they delivered to doesn't exist. At any rate they never turned up. I now have Mosaic use UPS. Mosaic replaced the 2 lost sets, & I believe collected from Airborne Express via the insurance they use.
  6. Opinions are like you know what. Everybody has one.
  7. Scattered Clouds is a very interesting CD recorded in 2000. John Litweiler did the liner notes (a writer I admire). Several months ago there was a guy on e-bay who had a bunch of sealed copies that he sold really cheap. Think I paid $4 for mine.
  8. Pepper Adams: Critics' Choice. Has never been on CD to my knowledge. It's a great session. Adams, Lee Katzman (trpt.), Doug Watkins, Jimmy Rowles, Mel Lewis. Anyone else know this session???
  9. I agree. He looks & sounds fine. I've seen him in Taos & in a group with Sonny Fortune in Albuquerque. Played great.
  10. Pelt is also on the Sharp Nine Class of 2001 CD called On The Loose. Includes the Strickland brothers. Very nice.
  11. Good discussion. Not just for completists. Shows aspects of Pepper not displayed elsewhere. Get it!
  12. One more: Pepper Adams: Critics Choice Was on World Pacific or Pacific Jazz. Adams, Lee Katzman (trpt.), Rowles, Doug Watkins, Mel Lewis ( I think that's all correct).
  13. Here's my usual batch: Don Cherry: Where Is Brooklyn Andrew Hill: Andrew!!! Andrew Hill: Compulsion Andrew Hill: Dance With Death

    Bill Charlap

The Charlap (New York Trio) CDs on Venus are among the best piano trio CDs of the last several years. Most are available at Cadence for $20 each which is not a bad price.
  15. KUNM - Albuquerque
  16. $22!!!??!!

    Abdullah Ibrahim

    I like Cape Town Revisited.
  18. I got all of mine from CD Universe except Passing Ships which is still on "back order". I wonder how they decide who gets what & in what order.
  19. Try the Greg Brown tribute CD - Going Driftless. Maybe even better try some of Greg Brown's own CDs.
  20. Nice review. I was going to get it anyway.
  21. I'm certain there'll be many opinions on "the" Patton desert island session. Mine is Oh, Baby!
  22. Stanley Turrentine: That's Where It's At Shelly Manne: 2,3,4
  23. The I Want To Live soundtrack.
  24. 3 of the 4 CDs in my box set have the same sticky stuff on the playing surface. I've called "customer service" at Columbia & supposedly someone is going to call me back. Hopefully they'll replace the set, & I'll store the CDs differently.
  25. If we all go out & buy this (I did), do we then eventually get Andrew!!! & Compulsion???
