  1. The Eagle has landed! Sometime in the late 90s/early 2000s but certainly after the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Mosaic went OOP, I was able to pick up a partial LP set with box and booklet from Mosaic. 5 of the 7 LPs were present. Since then I have been casually looking for a complete set in either CD or LP. Problem was, that this set has pretty much maintained a pretty high price on eBay. Since I already had the bulk of the set, I was not super motivated to pay over $100 or so. I happened to check Discogs a couple of weeks ago and voila! - a complete CD set sans box and booklet for $50. I'm listening to it now. Sorry for resurrecting such an old thread. My other choice was one from 2005
  2. I am so saddened to hear of Henry Aaron's passing. I followed his career as closely as I could as a boy/adolescent living in Buffalo NY with no internet. Back then it was checking the box scores in the local paper and reading the reports of the previous day's games, subscribing to sports magazines like the Sporting News and Sports Illustrated and watching the baseball game of the week. However it came to be, of all the great players who played the game in my youth, Henry Aaron was my favorite - one of my heroes. I followed his home run course for many years before he actually got close and remember getting into quite a few heated debates about the merits of Aaron's pursuit of the Babe. Watching home run 715 that night in April of 1974 with satisfaction and happiness. Watching the call of the home run on the highlight posted upthread gave me goosebumps and a few tears. Thank you Henry Aaron.
  3. I have the set and am really enjoying it. I remember that they needed a pre-book of a certain number of sets - 700 - before they would even move forward. Personally, I did not mind that concept and if it is needed to move other borderline sets forward, I'm good with that. Sound is great and there are plenty of vocals that I really like. There are a few novelty songs, but not enough to make me avoid listening to it. Like many of the Mosaic sets from this era, it helps to take my mind off things...
  4. The Desmond set arrived yesterday. It was a Christmas gift that came late. I listened to the first disc yesterday. Very, very nice. Seeing Ed Bickert in Toronto in '73 or '74 at a place called Yellow Fingers was one of my first exposures to jazz. Our family was on a weekend getaway to Toronto so it was my parents, sister and brother. It was at my insistence that we went, and obviously - it was quite memorable for me. Great music and nice venue as I remember it. My first jazz club Another highlight was my brother and I sneaking out of our Sutton Place hotel room some time after midnight and walking down and back up Yonge Street. Quite an experience of sights and sounds for a couple of kids who had never seen nightlife on a big city main street. One thing that sticks in my mind was encountering an open door and stairway up to upper levels above some business that was closed for the day. There were a few guys hanging out outside the open door, a speaker through which the sweet sound of Herb Alpert's "A Taste of Honey" was blaring. Sitting every few steps on the way up - women of varying ages. Scantily clad and at first glance, attractive. But we didn't exactly stop and stare. I was around 16 at the time. Memories.........
  5. Holy crap! Who knew?
  6. Seems like she must have bought it at an online store called Society6. Seems like the sell home decor items, furniture, household items etc.
  7. Didn't know where else to put this. Got this blanket from my wife Kelly for Christmas. I have a jazz listening room down in my basement and it's not always the warmest. So, perfect gift for a Blue Note lover
  8. Just checked my copy. It's the Manhattan Records one. I bought it back in the day. Actually - I have never replaced any of the Blue Notes I bought back in the early days of CDs
  9. Glad I checked in here today. I had forgotten about this one, having just received the Chateauvallon disc. Placed an order and should be here Wednesday.
  10. Tubby Hayes has arrived. I've never knowingly listed to him prior to this purchase. Looking forward to it.
  11. Does anyone know where you can pre-order? I just saw an MP3 of the song Cheesecake on the US Amazon. Nothing about an CD
  12. My vote counted
  13. Great news Brad. I wish her a speedy recovery
  14. Very sorry to hear of your loss. This has to be tough to deal with with their passing so close. Having been through this recently, but over a two year period, I can tell you that my experience is that my parents memory now lives with me every day. Everything I do in some way is connected back to them, I am thankful for having them as parents and hope that they are proud of me and that I am living up to the example they set. I wish you the best and hope that as your grief subsides, your best memories of them will come forward and that you will find comfort within them.
  15. Thanks CJ. As a huge Metheny fan, you've whetted my appetite. I'm expecting delivery of the album tomorrow. Can't wait.
  16. Circle - Paris Concert
  17. I believe you are correct about traversing the country. I've seen the lineups over the years at various Canadian jazz festivals and many international artists do the jazz festival circuit.
  18. I saw her at the Montreal Jazz Festival in 1991. It was my first time at that festival and she created quite a buzz. Her first concert was a free outdoor show that was cut short after about 30 minutes because of lightning and torrential rain. She played the next afternoon at noon inside the Complexe Desjardin - which is a shopping mall adjoining the festival grounds. Full set and a great show. Her scheduled gigs were over, but the festival had heard enough of her to add another performance at the end of the night a day or two later. It was unannounced and was on the free outdoor main stage at 11 or 11:30 that night. She played a full set and it was excellent. Finally, I had tickets for the closing night of the festival indoors inside the Salle Wilfrid Pelletier. The featured band were Uzeb - who by the way - put on a great show. In another surprise - Dennerlein opened that show and once again wowed the crowd. It was pretty cool to see how much excitement she created at that festival.
  19. I pre-ordered the Woody in 2018 at the time they were looking for a specific number of sets to make it viable. That number might have been 1000. I waited through all the delays and got this set - which I love - around the time it was released to about a month after it appeared the set was shipping. I was/am okay with that, especially since I was not charged until it was shipped. My wife Kelly ordered the Hank set in early December and I just received it a couple of days ago. It would have been nice to receive it on Christmas as it was a Christmas gift. I do see the need for an apology. And I appreciate that one has been put forth. I know that many on the board have been disappointed with the recent service and justifiably so. Seems like some of the Mosaic mishaps during production were beyond Mosaic's control. But, they do need to step up on things like missing orders and such. And prompt shipment too. I think those are things well within their control. In the end, I'm happy they are still alive as a company. Looking forward to the Bickert and Armstrong sets coming out in the future. Would love to see the Chick Corea I suggested a few months back.
  20. Very sad to hear of his passing. Big fan of Terry Jones and Monty Python. Great memories.
  21. The Eagle has landed.......
  22. Thanks for jumping in Ted. You have done a nice job of describing how special this set will be. I'm really interested in hearing the sets with McConnell. I wonder if Mosaic is interested in any of the other material Don Thompson has lying around
  23. I believe it was Ted O'Reilly who cryptically announced this set. Kudos to him for not hinting at who or what the set was about - but now that it has been announced, I wonder if he has any further insight. For those who don't know, Ted was connected to the Toronto Jazz scene and was an on air personality at a Toronto jazz station. I'm a fan of Ed Bickert and remember dragging my parents, brother, and sister to see him play at a place called Yellow Fingers back in the 70s. Very much looking forward to this release
  24. You are welcome. If you picked up In The Cave I hope you enjoyed it. I really like how they leave in Dexter's song intros. I love the version of I Wanna Blow Now. Made me wish I was there.
  25. This is weirding me out. This is the first I've heard of his death. A couple of days ago, though, I was out walking my dog and, for some reason, the Tears in the Rain scene from Blade Runner jumped in my head. I had not thought about him, the movie or that scene for a long, long time. I was visualizing it and and thinking about how much I loved the Roy Batty character. I was thinking how I believe it's one of my favorite movie scenes ever. I tried to think if other Hauer movies I'd seen and could not remember anything notable. I wondered to myself if that movie - Blade Runner - and that scene - Tears in the Rain - might have been the best he'd ever been. So I had this whole thought process about Rutger Hauer, unprompted and for no apparent reason. Then, I come to the board today and saw that he died - Wednesday - two days ago. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die." Sad, but a little creepy for me personally. RIP Rutger Hauer - and thanks for one of my favorite movie memories BTW, my dog - a Plott Hound - is named Dexy. She's a female so Dex or Dexter wouldn't work.
