  1. Very sorry to hear of your loss. This has to be tough to deal with with their passing so close. Having been through this recently, but over a two year period, I can tell you that my experience is that my parents memory now lives with me every day. Everything I do in some way is connected back to them, I am thankful for having them as parents and hope that they are proud of me and that I am living up to the example they set. I wish you the best and hope that as your grief subsides, your best memories of them will come forward and that you will find comfort within them.
  2. Thanks CJ. As a huge Metheny fan, you've whetted my appetite. I'm expecting delivery of the album tomorrow. Can't wait.
  3. I believe you are correct about traversing the country. I've seen the lineups over the years at various Canadian jazz festivals and many international artists do the jazz festival circuit.
  4. I saw her at the Montreal Jazz Festival in 1991. It was my first time at that festival and she created quite a buzz. Her first concert was a free outdoor show that was cut short after about 30 minutes because of lightning and torrential rain. She played the next afternoon at noon inside the Complexe Desjardin - which is a shopping mall adjoining the festival grounds. Full set and a great show. Her scheduled gigs were over, but the festival had heard enough of her to add another performance at the end of the night a day or two later. It was unannounced and was on the free outdoor main stage at 11 or 11:30 that night. She played a full set and it was excellent. Finally, I had tickets for the closing night of the festival indoors inside the Salle Wilfrid Pelletier. The featured band were Uzeb - who by the way - put on a great show. In another surprise - Dennerlein opened that show and once again wowed the crowd. It was pretty cool to see how much excitement she created at that festival.
  5. I pre-ordered the Woody in 2018 at the time they were looking for a specific number of sets to make it viable. That number might have been 1000. I waited through all the delays and got this set - which I love - around the time it was released to about a month after it appeared the set was shipping. I was/am okay with that, especially since I was not charged until it was shipped. My wife Kelly ordered the Hank set in early December and I just received it a couple of days ago. It would have been nice to receive it on Christmas as it was a Christmas gift. I do see the need for an apology. And I appreciate that one has been put forth. I know that many on the board have been disappointed with the recent service and justifiably so. Seems like some of the Mosaic mishaps during production were beyond Mosaic's control. But, they do need to step up on things like missing orders and such. And prompt shipment too. I think those are things well within their control. In the end, I'm happy they are still alive as a company. Looking forward to the Bickert and Armstrong sets coming out in the future. Would love to see the Chick Corea I suggested a few months back.
  6. Very sad to hear of his passing. Big fan of Terry Jones and Monty Python. Great memories.
  7. Thanks for jumping in Ted. You have done a nice job of describing how special this set will be. I'm really interested in hearing the sets with McConnell. I wonder if Mosaic is interested in any of the other material Don Thompson has lying around
  8. I believe it was Ted O'Reilly who cryptically announced this set. Kudos to him for not hinting at who or what the set was about - but now that it has been announced, I wonder if he has any further insight. For those who don't know, Ted was connected to the Toronto Jazz scene and was an on air personality at a Toronto jazz station. I'm a fan of Ed Bickert and remember dragging my parents, brother, and sister to see him play at a place called Yellow Fingers back in the 70s. Very much looking forward to this release
  9. You are welcome. If you picked up In The Cave I hope you enjoyed it. I really like how they leave in Dexter's song intros. I love the version of I Wanna Blow Now. Made me wish I was there.
  10. This is weirding me out. This is the first I've heard of his death. A couple of days ago, though, I was out walking my dog and, for some reason, the Tears in the Rain scene from Blade Runner jumped in my head. I had not thought about him, the movie or that scene for a long, long time. I was visualizing it and and thinking about how much I loved the Roy Batty character. I was thinking how I believe it's one of my favorite movie scenes ever. I tried to think if other Hauer movies I'd seen and could not remember anything notable. I wondered to myself if that movie - Blade Runner - and that scene - Tears in the Rain - might have been the best he'd ever been. So I had this whole thought process about Rutger Hauer, unprompted and for no apparent reason. Then, I come to the board today and saw that he died - Wednesday - two days ago. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die." Sad, but a little creepy for me personally. RIP Rutger Hauer - and thanks for one of my favorite movie memories BTW, my dog - a Plott Hound - is named Dexy. She's a female so Dex or Dexter wouldn't work.
  11. My condolences to Randy and everyone else in his family. I met Randy 3 or so years ago when my sons and I attended an Organissimo concert at the Grand Rapids Jazz Festival. He was hosting a jam session at a local venue afterwards. Great guy. Having just lost my father, I have great empathy for what he's going through. Wishing the best.....
  12. Interesting video on wire recorders: Retro Tech - Recording on Wire
  13. Coming up on the second anniversary of Gregg's passing. I've been listening to the ABB earlier today and now have the DVD of All My Friends playing. If you're a fan, give some Gregg Allman or ABB a spin this weekend. Enjoy
  14. Sad news. I've enjoyed Chris's posts on the Blue Note Board and while he was here. Never a dull moment. I particularly like the occasional photograph he'd post of Central Park from the window of his apartment. One in particular that I recall was a photo or the installation of the work of the artist Christo - in which Central Park was covered with a series of orange gates, hence the title of the work "Gates". It was stunning and while I did not get to see it in person, I felt like I did thanks to Chis. I used to think of him from time to time and check out Stomp Off and figured something was going on when it stopped being updated. May he rest in peace.
  15. There are a lot of McVea tracks on YouTube and having listened to a number of them, I see no reason they should not be included - and am disappointed that they are not. I can see how the size of the set can be an impediment, but one could reasonably argue that 12 CDs is already too high a price point for many. I wonder if they would consider a volume one and volume two approach. Seven or so CDs each and more inclusive. Either way - I do enjoy these label oriented Mosaic sets a lot, so it won't stop me from purchasing this one.
  16. Yes it is. I love that they've left Dex's announcements in. Those and the interaction with the audience during "I Wanna Blow Now" as well as the overall playing really bring this recording to life. Makes me wish I was there shouting "Go Ahead!" in response to Dexter's "I wanna blow now". Must have been a great noght.
  17. Another Dexaholic checking in. Looking forward to this. Ordered it a a couple of days ago. Another recent Dexter CD I picked up is Dexter Gordon - In The Cave: Live At Persepolis Utrecht 1963. Highly recommended. It will give you a nice Dexter fix until this new one is released
  18. Great news for me personally. My family has always given me a Mosaic set for special occasions and this will afford them an opportunity to do so one more time - assuming the set remains in print at Christmas 2019 - which I'm thinking it will be. I'm as big a fan and supporter of Mosaic as there is on the board. I'm glad that a set of 60s Mobley is being released. As far as Mosaic's propensity to go for music of the 40s-60s, I understand that pre 60's music might not appeal to some as much as others and that there are artists who would make great Mosaic sets but have not been chosen for a number of reasons - availability, popularity, viability, sheer number of albums on Mosaic friendly labels. Quite frankly I agree with the sentiment regarding more recent stuff for the most part - though I have found every set they've made to be a revelation on some level. With this set in particular, many of us on this board have been around long enough to have been part of the golden age of Blue Note releases and remasters of the 80s, 90s and early 00s. I'll bet there are many around the world who have not been and might be new to exploring this stuff. This set might just be perfect for them - and there are only 2500 being printed - so I'm not sure why all the controversy over set selection. Quite frankly I'd love for this to be the precursor to releases of Morgan, Hancock, Gordon, Silver. Maybe that will provide a financial opportunity to do more sets of more obscure or modern artists. Who knows? I just wish the viewpoints could be expressed with less harshness, vitriol and negativity. They are going to put out what they want to and what they are able to. We will buy what we like, what we can and what we are able to. Not sure why all the histrionics and drama. No matter what they do I will always be thankful to Mosaic for having enriched my life.
  19. Does anyone know if the minimum number of pre-orders was reached? Is this set actually being released?
