  1. Cerner just issued a directive for Malvern employees (such as me) to work from home for two weeks. That's a good thing, and I am well-prepared to do so.
  2. Strange selections if that is going to be it for the series. Wish they would reissue Sam Rivers - Streams and some of the John Klemmer titles.
  3. I see he has credits for that Morgan album, the Bobo album Jim referenced, and an early 70's Pucho album which looks pretty cool, with a medley of three Curtis Mayfield cuts from Superfly taking up side 1.
  4. I requested and received permission to work from home for duration. Does not negatively impact my work at all, in fact I am more productive and happier working from home, especially under these circumstances. Governor of PA just closed schools and all stores except grocery/pharmacy in our county (Montgomery County, PA, adjacent to and just west of Philly) for two weeks.
  5. A great listen. Has aged gracefully. And much more depth and breadth to the album tracks than I ever would have dreamed. Highly recommended.
  6. Looking forward to it, but also wish the original was available, for balanced perspective.
  7. $10 cheaper from importcds.com than from anywhere else if you're willing to wait for them to fill their back order. Will run you under $30 including tax and shipping.
  8. My favorite version of it, for both Coltrane's and Tyner's solos, is Newport '63. even though I would have much rather had Elvin Jones on drums for that than Roy Haynes. 'Expansions'. 'Extensions'. 'Sahara', 'Enlightenment'. and 'Sama Layuca' are probably my five favorites, though he did so many other great albums before and after. All of the 60's-70's Blue Notes and the Milestones have so much to offer, as do most of the rest of his catalog.
  9. We can't even get isopropyl alcohol and aloe to make our own here.
  10. Yeah, I have owned Watanabe's "Round Trip" in one form or another for decades. "Spaces" has never worked for me, for whatever reason. Everyone seems to be deferring to everyone else, from what I remember, and the whole thing has always struck me as sort of adrift. Not a bad album, and there are some good parts, just not a compelling one for me. I like the later ones we mentioned better, they are more focused. Coryell/McLaughlin/Corea/Vitous/Cobham from that period should have produced fireworks, but didn't. But of course I own it for pro forma purposes. I'm "supposed" to own it, so I do. Have never been sure what to make of Lawrence. His first album was pure easy-listening schlock for the most part, and his third album, "Inside an Hour Glass", was indescribably freaky and weird. The one that we are talking about here is all over the place. I liked him with Chico Hamilton, and actually enjoy the cut I shared quite a bit, but understand why his albums are lost to time, never making CD (as far as I know).
  11. Apparently Zoot Sims said this about Getz one time" "Stan's a nice bunch of guys".
  12. If I got them all, it's 23, with three doubles (Enlightenment, Atlantis, 4x4): Sahara 1972 Milestone Song for My Lady 1972 Milestone Echoes of a Friend 1972 JVC, Milestone Song of the New World 1973 Milestone Enlightenment 1973 Milestone Sama Layuca 1974 Milestone Atlantis 1974 Milestone Trident 1975 Milestone Fly with the Wind 1976 Milestone Focal Point 1976 Milestone Supertrios 1977 Milestone Inner Voices 1977 Milestone The Greeting 1978 Milestone Passion Dance 1978 Milestone Counterpoints 1978 Milestone Together 1979 Milestone Horizon 1979 Milestone Quartets 4 X 4 1980 Milestone 13th House 1981 Milestone Uptown/Downtown 1988 Milestone One on One(w/ Grappelli)1990 Milestone Blue Bossa 1991 Milestone Prelude and Sonata 1994 Milestone
  13. We have at least seven cases in my county, and there are issues from a doctor working in my township at a large children's hospital facility who had been overseas. Our school district was closed yesterday, reopened today. One large local university (West Chester) cancelled classroom classes. I already have airplane tickets, car rental, AirBnb reservation to take my wife, daughter, and grandson to see my parents (aged 90 and 86) in Florida (Lakewood Ranch, between Sarasota and Bradenton) late April. Not sure yet what to do there. I don't want to kill my parents, yet this is likely the only chance for them to meet their great grandson. I'm also potentially out $1500-2000 in nonrefundable costs (I haven't actually confirmed the details) if I cancel, but that's a minor concern compared to the other factors. We'll see how it rides out. About 1500-2000 people in my workplace, no action here yet, though other large companies in the area are making at least contingency plans for dealing with the outbreak. https://www.inquirer.com/health/coronavirus/coronavirus-covid19-childrens-hospital-philadelphia-cardiologist-penn-medicine-20200310.html
  14. I don't mind the undisciplined nature of some of Coryell's playing, since I'm such a rock guy. My complaint is that he decided to suddenly go dinky in the mid-70's around the time of those Eleventh House albums, and never got the fire back. Also, not sure what ever possessed him to think it was OK for him to "sing". I do like 'Fairyland','Offering','Barefoot Boy' quite a bit, that is my favorite stretch of his recordings. Here's a Coryell cut for the ages, everything we love and hate about him (depending on point of view).
  15. Not familiar with the Hopkins. Totally agree with and love and own the other selections.
  16. Still a magical listen 53 years on.
  17. I thought the same back in that golden era 20 years ago when such things seemed possible.
  18. 2017 MPS CD release of this:
  19. Using this in the Men's group I lead:
  20. I have a DVD of a show of undetermined vintage, but appears to be from around that time. Tyner/Blake/Sharpe/Joe Ford/Ronnie Burrage on drums. Start with the mighty 'Sahara' and work forward from there. You have great listening ahead!
  21. Great stuff, thanks. Here is the text of the shipping emails for those not inclined to open the link: Your CD has been gently taken from our CD Baby shelves with sterilized contamination-free gloves and placed onto a satin pillow. A team of 50 employees inspected your CD and polished it to make sure it was in the best possible condition before mailing. Our packing specialist from Japan lit a candle and a hush fell over the crowd as he put your CD into the finest gold-lined box that money can buy. We all had a wonderful celebration afterwards and the whole party marched down the street to the post office where the entire town of Portland waved “Bon Voyage!” to your package, on its way to you, in our private CD Baby jet on this day, Friday, June 6th. I hope you had a wonderful time shopping at CD Baby. We sure did. Your picture is on our wall as “Customer of the Year.” We’re all exhausted but can’t wait for you to come back to CDBABY.COM!!
  22. I agree. The Fleetwood Mac Boston Tea Party live recordings are phenomenal. Danny Kirwan is also criminally underrated, and together they made some amazing music.
