  1. Not that I am aware of. I agree that his CTI titles are stronger than what came after. Still like "Uptown Conversation" better than any of them.
  2. With Brady gone, they may be a thing of the past anyways...
  3. What are some you have in mind? I've never been disappointed in any Joe Henderson record that had Ron Carter on it. Much love for this one:
  4. I remember being disappointed in it. Not essential work by any of the three artists (and I've never been sold on Ron Carter as a leader beyond 'Uptown Conversation').
  5. Thanks, a lot of potential treasures to explore there!
  6. Never heard of that one, either. I really need to go find a Milestone discography, thanks for the lead.
  7. I've never even heard OF 'The Scavenger' let alone hearing it. Makes me wonder what else I have totally missed on the Milestone label. And a number of their releases have never been released on CD. Gary Bartz's "Home" immediately comes to mind, and I wish someone would remedy that. I'd even pay exhorbitant Japanese prices for that one.
  8. Yes, it's more a matter of how many are at the peak, rather than how far out it is. To minimize overrunning capacity at any given time. There may be better ideas on treating it by then, also. Tangible progress seems to be happening on that front every day. At current rate, the entire city would have it in like four weeks, so that does seem to indicate a definite flattening. Would love to know what the model shows as the # of cases at the peak, but I know you probably can't get that.
  9. A combo CD is a good idea, as both tohose titles are incredibly inconsistent. OTOH, much love for this (and every) version of Zawinul's wonderful "Dr. Honoris Causa"!!!
  10. Same thing here in the USA. Heartbreaking, and there is going to be a lot more of this. Horrible lose-lose choices will need to be made, and often they will prove to be wrong. My prayers include wisdom and grace for the decision-makers.
  11. I do remember edgy ECM, but that was 40+ years ago! As far as Catalyst/Visitors/et al - there was so much coming at us musically in that age, it was impossible to keep up with it all, plus we were new to the music, with limited incomes, and had the whole history of the music to try to learn/absorb at the same time! I had an advantage on those two as they were Philly-based so right in front of us here. And Cobblestone cutouts were cheap and plentiful in Philly. Will definitely check out the Ellington. I have the Whitney set and like it quite a bit. Late Ellington (post the Reprise monstrosities) has always worked very very well for me. Odean Pope - reeds, Eddie Green - Keyboards, Tyrone Brown - bass, Sherman Ferguson - Drums. Saw Pope and Brown with Max Roach 15-20 years later, and they were great. Saw Pope's saxophone choir in the late 80's, and it was intense. Had some jazz newcomers with me, and they were quite appalled! Both were free outdoor concerts at Penn's Landing in Philly,on the edge of the Delaware River. All four of the musicians had significant biographies before and after Catalyst, and only Ferguson was in his 20's, the others were older (Green was already 40 - BTW, he remained an institution in Philly, I saw him in different contexts). That being said, Catalyst was very much of it's time, but what a time!
  12. I must have gotten lucky a couple decades ago, as I have the Cowell on CD, and would not have paid a drastic premium for it (relative lack of funds back then). But it's a wonderful album, and certainly belongs on the list. I am delighted to see Philly's Catalyst (Odean Pope, Tyrone Brown, et al.) on the list, as they seem to be largely overlooked/forgotten. I would have chosen their first album, but 'Perecption' is also quite worthy. The Holland and Corea/Burton are inarguably classics. And allows you to get yet another Corea album onto the list! I lke the Bartz fine, but definitely would have chosen the glorious live-at-Montreux "I've Known Rivers" for him, and also rate the Harlem Bush Music combined set ahead of this one. Have never heard the Ellington/Brown (thought I've heard of it), and the Braff/Larkins is many miles outside of my selected channel of listening. Really enjoying this series, thanks!
  13. Yes, Don McNeil is outstanding on this topic, thanks for sharing.
  14. What I meant was the massive shutdowns without internet.
  15. Imagine if this had happened 25 years ago...
  16. Courtesy of Politico: And very sobering, given our current USA situation.
  17. The substantial success of the Coltrane Blue World release surely bolstered his argument, but I don't begrudge him his credit. I'm glad the release is coming out, will reserve further judgment until I hear the music.
  18. Is Patrick Roques still alive and active? Loved his BN reissue work, even more than the iconic Reid Miles work that inspired it.
  19. Trying to catalog my CD's in an excel spreadsheet, but life keeps getting in the way of the work I want to do with my collection. I was looking forward to eventually getting time enough in retirement in a few years, but it hasn't been a great couple of weeks on that front, either!
  20. PA governor is issuing a stay-at-home order for Philly, the four suburban Philly PA counties, which includes Montgomery County, where I am (Philly also has New Jersey suburbs), Allegheny County (which is Pittsburgh and surrounding suburbs), and Monroe County (in the Poconos, prime getaway spot for Philly people).
  21. but not twice. I actually don't really mind it.
  22. so sorry to hear that. Enjoyed much of his 70's work as a leader and sideman.
