  1. Yes, I agree with every statement above.
  2. Clear enough what he was thinking in "Beyond Games". Some things never change, but that doesn't make it great art or good listening. "Via The Spectrum Road" obviously takes a shot at a certain woman (assume she knew who she was), as well as being a cosmic road-life saga. "Where" must have sounded profound if you were high in 1969. The lyrics make me think Williams was either a very creepy or a very spoiled/entitled dude (so much success at 22 years old), but the drumming certainly is for the ages. To paraphrase the Frank Zappa album title, "Shut Up and Play Yer Drums".
  3. Thanks Mike, nice to be able to share the music.
  4. I'm in favor of whatever the organ player preferred, bass player or no bass player.

    RSD Releases

WEA has some interesting releases, a live 1978 Captain Beefheart, a live 1981 Stevie Nicks, a 5-LP Nuggets including the compiled but unreleased Nuggets 2 (new notes by Lenny Kaye). I don't buy vinyl, but am in for any later CD releases of the Beefheart and the Nicks. And maybe the Nuggets, depending how much it is duplicated by the incredible 1998 4-CD Rhino box set. That one should be in every home.
  6. Did the A-B comparison. Schaap mix is a considerable improvement, especially to my ears for McLaughlin and for Williams' "vocals" (what was he thinking?).
  7. I do, the 1991 CD. I remember getting a used copy of the original double LP 50 years ago, and being horrified by it, finding it basically unlistenable. The Schaap is certainly a great improvement, but still. A shame that Polydor didn't shell out the money to re-record it, once the engineers had a chance to understand what they were dealing with. I also have the 1997 Spectrum Anthology, which has the 1997 mixes (supposedly the original mixes) for five cuts. I've never actually A-B'd them, I'll do that.
  8. I have Sirius and love it. Have my 12 presets, and flip from song to song. Don't like the Sirius jazz stations, and they did not make my 12 presets. Love some of the announcers, such as Steve Van Zandt, Kid Leo, The Mighty Manfred, Tom Petty, and Earle Bailey. They still play Petty's old Buried Treasure shows. We watch no TV except sports.
  9. Fascinating mess of an album, unlike anything else. I enjoy it immensely, warts and all.
  10. Thanks Paul, so great to see you in the neighborhood here - You'll fit in well!
  11. Hi Kevin, Yes, Colin took Jazz Sahara, but I will hold the other titles for you, thanks!
  12. I'll look into that one, too!
  13. Thanks Mark, yes, big fan of Trible!
  14. They're the company that released the new Charles Tolliver CD a little while back, and also the most recent Cookers CD (David Weiss's group with Billy Harper and other giants). Anyone heard the Dwight Trible CD the company put out?
  15. Ok will do that. Motivation to push through and list more! Yes, will hold!

  18. Collectables/Oldies.com also had a ton of OJC's at $2.99 each several years ago, and I loaded up (including the Dennis and the Tatro, both of which I still own). I live 10-15 minutes from their warehouse, pass it on highway often. Wish it was open to the public.
  19. There really was a certain insanity on their part for some of those OJC-LE's, much as I was thankful for them. Did they really expect to make back their cost on things like John Dennis and Duane Tatro?

    Jimmy Heath

These are the ones I love by Heath. All recorded 1972-1975, most adventurous playing he ever did. BTW, met him at a Heath Bros. gig at the Foxhole Cafe ca.1977, very kind man.
  21. Hesitant on them both, mainly because of past huge disappointments on the sound quality of recordings from the Left Bank (especially thinking of those 32Jazz releases by Getz, Hubbard, Walton, Stitt, etc.). Big draw on the Scott for me is George Coleman, though Harold Vick isn't small change either.
  22. Just the 2-CD set. So far, not too impressive, though the title track is great. The "Carl and the Passions - So Tough" album is kind of a mess, and the outtakes are not revelatory. Have not gotten to the "Holland" disc yet, have more hope for it. But this doesn't hold a candle to "Sunflower" and "Surf's Up", let alone "Today" and "Pet Sounds".
