  1. I'll be getiing this.
  2. Looking forward to it.
  3. Memphis, naturally.
  4. Since American was largely a studio for hire and their work appeared on a number of labels it can be challenging to get a sense of their work overall, certainly more so than for Stax or even Muscle Shoals/Fame. And after Chips Moman closed shop most of 'em moved to Nashville and get paid 3 times as much to do less creative work. I recently picked up a Petula Cark LP that was recorded at American, not sure if it ever made it to CD.
  5. Mostly the guys this book is about, which I've been reading recently.
  6. There's no script and the're not really trying to revive it, so it's basically a fantasy about why this thing failed. seems like a misguided project to me.
  7. I've bought two - one I'd never owned (The Phantom) and one I only had on a homemade cassette (Contours). Quite happy with both. But Further purchases from this or their other series will remain infrequent.
  8. As I've already said elsewhere on the web, I'm not paying $50 (or even $40) just to have these same 7 tunes spread over 3 sides of vinyl - if they had put some alt. takes on the 4th side I would have at least thought about it. Lovely music, but no.
  9. Didn't Chick Corea do this a generation ago? In the meantime, looking for Ethan's thing, I found this (16) Dance Of The Pitch Corrected Infidels - YouTube
  10. Just got out the sheet music and played "Ferry 'Cross the Mersey", if you do it right (wrong/right) you can make it sound kinda 'Trane-ish.
  11. I meant it's not the version I know from Preach Brother and it doesn't sound like him on sax to me, I'm guessing a Prestige organ date then? Or maybe Argo.
  12. #1 sounds like don Wilkerson's Old Camp Meeting After Awhile, only not.
  13. Some one from my former workplace died from it, I think, but I hardly knew them. No one I know at all well has gotten it that I know of.
  14. https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fmarkoconnorblog.blogspot.com%2F2020%2F12%2Ftony-rice-dies-on-christmas-day.html%3Ffbclid%3DIwAR1NGlzeelOASyhlKZusY3QFmdLuIFRtgJFrKbtv8S7oLGbnqAgHbSyVjWo&h=AT3Nyi2_7Xjj05_ePt_Ba5qqoEJgOLY4CDNYKG46GJXIHAn1eBxb3m7FhaZgQ3mfegTZcZCYTjG1JrfwDcte5hz5xNMx-pZBZPFPcOqsfkA95h0ITbjDa20qtWiGwk-miM4rASZRTSBwctidZQ&__tn__=-UK-R&c[0]=AT16-70HWiMoDIRqIUQMDPcrYkQtt6DbuPw1h2EfkQKvta0ay5oLRMegbKHIMasQpOuydiozu2vJRURxwlc7_MFUjKV36jacmTh3IZ0SHBPb9rsNrxo26drxQtYB55AtRK1pIa66P1puqWY9SRT88irKTYA Mark O'Connor remembrance.
  15. I think some of them were actually born in the '50s, but close enough.
  16. Here's to a better year for all, although I'm sure there will be some bumps in the road yet.
  17. Trio Beyond - Saudades (Tony Williams Lifetime tribute) Enrico Rava - On the Dance Floor (Michael Jackson tribute)
  18. Some might consider them as part of that thing, depends how wide y0ou cast your net. I'd say adjacent - slightly later, slightly more wide ranging musically, neither was in the Jazz Messengers, etc. Definitely a YMMV situation.
  19. I still own some Winston and Bradford (as store customers chronically mispronounced them), as well as some Blanchard & Harrison, Art Blakey of that period, 1 Ralph Moore, 1 Christopher Holliday (who I met, nice guy), and some M-base related stuff from the same era (I wish I'd kept my Gary Thomas), but that's a different thing, as is Joshua Redman, James Carter, etc. don't listen to any of the afore-mentioned very often. The two where I wonder why I bought so darned many are Joe Lovano and David Murray. But back then I was still trying to 'keep up'. Now, not so much.
  20. No way, not in the right order!
  21. (5) At The Source (Medley/Remastered) - YouTube pretty sure I'd never heard Bobby Hutcherson's Head On all the way thru before 2020, certainly didn't own it til this year, epic in its ambition.
  22. Wishing you all the best Allen.
  23. That is just the best thing ever, thanks for posting it.
  24. Pepper and Marsh might be a half step down, but still pretty fine.
