  1. In spite of growing up during the 1960s, the Beatles have never made into my music collection. So I guess another round of reissues won't change a thing. I rather keep growing my jazz collection.
  2. I've long owned and enjoyed 'The Riddle." Brubeck told me a few years back that another session with Smith remains unreleased, it was tentative titled "Witches' Brew," recorded long before Miles' 'Bitches Brew.' It seems doubtful that Columbia will get around to issuing it.
  3. Watch out, your joke might offend someone....
  4. One rule I have for my April Fool's releases: never use a real record label, save them the headache. Of course, I've had some fun reactions, particularly over Fourplay: Nocturnal Mission (a reader was incensed that I included Clay Aiken as a guest vocalist), Michael Bolton Sings the Duke Ellington Songbook (which caused a promoter who should have been known better to call me in order to track down the label to get the account), plus George Winston: Dirty, Dirty, Dirty-George Plays Jelly Roll and Yanni: A Tribute to Art Tatum. It's too bad they didn't run any pieces this year, though I had submitted a pair. Maybe next year.
  5. This isn't jazz, but check out the price on this 2LP bootleg record of Frank Zappa: http://cgi.ebay.com/Frank-Zappa-200-Motels...14#ht_500wt_975
  6. I'm interested in the following: $7 each: Sylvia Cuenca The Crossing Etoile Records Nathan Davis The Other Side of Morning Tomorrow International Eric Alexander Sextet Full Range Criss Cross

    Eddie Higgins

You can't go wrong with any of Eddie Higgins' recordings for Venus, as he has become a favorite of Tetsuo Hara. I second that both he and Meredith are extremely gracious people. My one chance to hear Eddie was at the Atlanta Jazz Party a few years back. Great fun!
  8. PM sent on: Blue Mitchell A Sure Thing Riverside OJC $5 Alex Sipiagin Prints Criss Cross $7 Seamus Blake Way Out Willy Criss Cross $7
  9. I can think of a number of Blue Note CDs by Donaldson which are no longer in my collection. A lot of it was commercial schlock.
  10. Kind of Blah is more like it...
  11. Unless you need the money immediately, I'd hold onto the Farmer/Golson set, as it is easily going to be worth more than $20 disc within a few years.
  12. Lenny Breau & Richard Cotten: Pickin' Cotten Erroll Garner: Mambo Moves Garner
  13. Neil Swainson, his long time bassist, told me during the 2008 IAJE that George was getting forgetful, so he evidently has retired from performing. But it was a nice long run...Happy Birthday, George!
  14. Whoopee, what hip listening she does... I don't think I'll miss anything by not reading her column.
  15. Not even $100 per disc, with shipping.... Remember what P.T. Barnum said... and we don't even know if it is a low number, or one marked "promo" like mine!
  16. She would be a distracting opponent...
  17. Sellers have to offer paypal as an option to buyers. Some people get caught up in the moment in auctions instead of doing a bit of research before clicking "Bid now." I remember a guy in a store having a used LP reissue of Charlie Parker's Bird at St. Nick's while it was still in print for $15. Buyer beware.
  18. Well, no one is forcing anyone to use ebay, or deal with a seller who has excessive shipping fees. I have been less enthusiastic about selling on ebay since they required accepting paypal, as there is no easy way to exclude credit and debit card transactions. I tried listing that in my offerings and winners often overlooked/ignored it. But ebay had to do something with all of the fraud that was taking place due to certain crooked sellers.
  19. What's crazy are the shipping charges for boxed sets from San Francisco seller. $36, $45? Sounds like someone is more interested in keeping ebay's mits off of more of the purchase price. I've always found this a little unsavory.
