I grew up with cats and have had them in every home we've owned, so that's thirty three plus years of having anywhere from one to six cats. We're at four now and I doubt we'll add any more, they tend to live fifteen years or more, with a couple of exceptions. They are entertaining and good company, though they aren't allowed in my music library, two floors above where they live.

2023-24 MLB Hot Stove League
Ken Dryden replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
That's probably a wise move. New owners have often screwed things up royally, although some did it for years and should have been relieved of their teams for their gross cheapness. -
I can’t imagine taking the time to upload my collection, I don’t have enough time to hear all of the new acquisitions and releases as it is.

Oscar Peterson played organ on some of the studio sessions with Count Basie for Pablo. Dick Hyman was widely recorded on organ, though I prefer hearing him on a theatre or pipe organ, as he gets a great sound.

This is the LP I was thinking about, which my father bought and later gave to me. This CD is long out of print but shouldn't be too hard to find. It has a lot of his important small group recordings. Also check out The Carl Stalling Project CDs, which have Stallings arrangements of Scott's music for Looney Tunes cartoon soundtracks. Too bad Stash never got around to issuing a Volume Two, whether it was due to licensing or founder Bernie Brightman's death and the liquidation of the Stash Records label that followed. I am unsure how much of Scott's music is on the two Stalling CDs, but "Powerhouse" was used in many Looney Tunes. I always remember the one with the fast moving assembly line using a snippet from it.

Didn’t his big band also play standards, in addition to his originals?

During one of my last trips to JRC a few years ago, a guy picked up some vintage original Blue Note LPs without prices on a desk near the front and asked Fred ”How much are these?” Fred yelled at him “Put them back, they aren’t for sale!” I am sure they were already sold or getting read to be auctioned for high prices.

A man had a problem with his sound of his gas discharges, they changed from the normal Bronx cheer to the sound, "Honda..." His doctor was mystified, so he sent him to a proctologist. Shortly after the patient undressed and was examined, the doctor exclaimed, "I found the problem, you have an abscess!" The man asked, "What's an abscess got to do with it?" the doctor replied, "Abscess make the fart go Honda."

Cats react to things in different ways, but it is often fascinating. When I had my knee replacement earlier this year, my wife took over my care of the cats in the basement. Two days after surgery, my wife called from the basement and told me our oldest cat (Zeitlin) barely touched his canned food and went over to the door looking for me. I grabbed the walker, folded it to use as a crutch and made my way downstairs and assured him that I was still okay. I give him partial credit for encouraging me to take the stairs regularly during my recovery, it is fifteen steps to the basement and sixteen to the top floor (HutchFan has been in our home to climb them). Fifteen days after surgery, my PT measured my range of motion at 110 degrees and said 90 was the expected result. So Zeitlin gets credit with getting me moving a lot.

I remember one of Benson’s Warner Bros. CDs where he started singing in a song in the wrong place, stopped immediately and yet they released the track as is. I asked a label rep at a jazz conference why they didn’t edit it out or do a re-take and got the reply, “We thought it was a good take otherwise.” Maybe they were running over budget…

AARP members get dearly access to Stones Tour tickets
Ken Dryden replied to medjuck's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
I was an AARP member for two years after turning 50. The discounts offered were never for anything of interest to me or I was happy with the businesses that competed against them. -
"Sunny Side of the Street" Composer?
Ken Dryden replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I have the Kirkeby bio, I seem to recall reading that claim in it, but it has been awhile. I will check it when I have time. -
I thought that photo looked familiar, I have the Oktav CD version issued in 2008.

Long a favorite of mine.

It is a Chicago store that many of you have dealt with via mail order. I don''t want to name them, as they are also the ones who credited my expedited shipping on my previous order when there were numerous delays by the shipper. I do they sending me a prepaid label would have been a far smarter, more efficient solution.

[Vinyl Me Please] Up to $99 off membership
Ken Dryden replied to maldororrr's topic in Offering and Looking For...
That's one of the many reasons I have never subscribed to any vinyl service. To much chance that there is music I already own in another format, or music of absolutely no interest to me at all. -
The business replied to my follow up email that they had no ability to create a prepaid label in their system. That seems odd for business that relies heavily on mail order. The issue I have is if the USPS loses or damages the package, I am out the return postage. The business, not me, should shoulder the risk. O've already had at least one shipment via media mail from them that took over four weeks to reach me, so I didn't use it, though they suggested it, given that there was a two week deadline for returning the CD.
